It's a bit of a mixed bag of opinions. Some people advocate not everyone being bisexual because they would like to see more LIs being gay/lesbian, and that is perfectly fine. However, some people say it's "unrealistic" to have four bisexual people in your group of friends and ask for less s/s options at the same time. That to me seems a bit like bigotry.

Here is a fun idea. Wade or Herren as a love interest :) Would be fun to see how the other one reacts to it.

But Wade and Herren are together! :( I could never break them up, even though Wade is so adorable.

Naw, its not bigotry, it actually is kind of unrealistic. You run into 4 random people you have never met before, and all of them just happen to be bisexual? Quite the odds.

Yes, I know they are together. But picture the reactions if someone were to hit on one of the two?

Herren is actually the norwegian word for LordMaster. And he also turns into a desire demon in the darkspawn chronicles. Just some trivia. Might be some plot twist with those two down the road.

A said "a bit". :P It's just a bit suspicious to me when people say that it's unrealistic AND they want less s/s options. It is a bit unrealistic, but so is magic and demons and dragons, so I'm fine with suspending my disbelief for four bisexual people.

Well i have no problems with more s\\s romances being added. I just don`t want them all to be bisexual. Feels like a shortcut as well.

Dragons and magic are part of the lore, so in Thedas its not unrealistic at all.

Well I still think that it's weird to nod your head with, "Okay, magic. Okay, demons. Okay, dragons. WHAT? Four bisexual people in one city that my character can meet?! What are the odds!" There are more bisexual people in the world than statistics give us credit for. While in a perfect world there would be a variety of sexualities for LIs, I still like that people can romance their favourite LI despite gender. :)

Why cant the devs/mods lock this thread right now?

Because the discussion currently going on is more productive than the one it started with.

but it id not longer the topic, which is the idea of NPC exclusive Same sex romance options being added to thegame, instead of making four LI bi fo rthe sake of equality.

The posts about "making four LI bi for the sake of equality" were in response to the idea that you proposed (exclusive same sex romance options). Many people were saying "I prefer the idea of the love interests being bi to the idea of relegating same sex romance options to NPCs only." Those comments are still on topic--they're still responding to your original idea.

Why would an adventuring party filled with warriors, mages, and rogues who will probably have to be strong enough to save the world~ at some point need a guard or personal escort?

Its kind of easy to see Anders as some
sort of "catering", given the fact that he shouldn`t even be in Kirkwall
when he shows up. According to the timeline, he is still in Amaranthine
when he runs into Hawke. Go figure.

I kind of gave up trying to keep the timeline straight, tbh. But that's just general catering, and not catering specifically to s/s fans like the OP was implying. Even if he were straight, the timeline discrepencies would still be there. Yet when I see Anders being accused of catering, it's almost always because of his sexuality.

warden had a seneschal, why can't the Inquisitor have someone walk from city to city with them helping to fight off bandits or abominations or crazed templars?

If I were to make a thread about All bi vs Gay/Straight/Bi LI set up, would you all be civil about it?

Ohh i agree with you 100 percent. I am just saying that i can see why others might jump to another conclusion.

Anders being in Kirkwall is just sloppy writing. They had 1 game + 1 expansion to follow up. No excuse getting the timeline wrong.

Well, if we're going by realistic standards, they're not the only four people in an entire city that could be interested in Hawke. You go to a big city, there aren't going to be a set number of people that are going to be willing to date you. It's not like Hawke found four needles in a haystack.

Plus, there are people who Hawke can be interested in who aren't interested in her/him back, if that adds to the "realism" at all.

It is a shortcut. Gaider as said that he would prefer to do an even spread of sexualities, had he the resources. But the best way to be fair, given the limitations, is to simply make all four LIs romanceable by characters of both genders. Fairness trumps "realism" in this case, as it should in all cases, in my opinion.

But he also doesn't consider all the LIs to be "bisexual" anyway, but rather the sexualities of some characters are player-determined. Meaning they can be bisexual, exclusively straight or exclusively gay, depending on what you want to do for that playthrough.

Varel's job is to stay at the Keep, though, and act in the Warden's steed while they're away. He couldn't have come on the road with him/her, similarly the Inquisitor couldn't bring along their seneschal because it would contradict what the seneschal's job is.

4 out of 4 love interests are all BI. thats 100 percent. 4 random people that joins Hawke for some reason. The only 4 he can have a physical relationship with, and they are all BI. Its unrealistic.

I am sure others in the city might be into Hawke too, bet we are never told or shown that, so its not really an argument.

Well, I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree, since I don't see it as particularly unrealistic to have four people out of the nine you're friends with to be bisexual. Also, Seb is straight, so 4 out of 5. I completely forgot about him.

(I hope I didn't come across as abrasive at all! You seemed to be getting a little annoyed with me there by the end. :pinched:)

We do get to see someone interested in Hawke. In the Chantry, two women talk about Hawke, if Hawke is male. It's either the woman who is trying to marry her ugly daughter, or it's the sister - I don't remember which - but one of them wonders out loud, if Hawke has a wife or not.

They're not your needs that are being catered to, but the needs of those who've been historically disenfranchised from this kind of thing. It's none of your concern.

Freedom to change the story and whatsnot, yes. Not to change peoples sexuality from the get go. Thats different. Its about your actions and moral choices etc changing the story. Not picking an option about what you want a followers sexual orientation to be.

I meant  "my needs", as in the players needs. Yours included. As a paying customer, it actually IS my concern as well as yours.

And if you look further back, Plaintiff (i belive) told us everyone got "turned BI", because it was a shortcut. The devs wanted lots of different sexualites, but had to settle for this option due to resources.

That has been beat to death several times over already.  Start that thread at your own risk.

Thats kind of a problem. My character determining a companions sexuality, in a way. Feels like a sim rather than an rpg. People just changing sexuality and whatsnot, just to cater to my needs or whatever.

I agree with your belief that one's character determining a companion's sexuality is problematic, but I also believe it was the only way to show equal treatment to both gay and straight players considering the resources available. I'd rather play a game that has four bisexual love interests than a game that treats gay player characters and straight player characters unequally.

They're not your needs that are being catered to, but the needs of those who've been historically disenfranchised from this kind of thing. It's none of your concern.

Not to mention that in any given playthrough, the majority of your companions are not bi. As an example If your pc is male Anders is gay, if your pc is female Anders is straight. That is not the same thing as bi.
