Mostly a consequence of today's attitude towards social injustices and the fact that people have latched onto gaming as the medium which will somehow change the world. I'd like to say in an ideal world, everyone would have content for themselves and it would be created with equal care but minority content often leads to a lack of depth for the sake of massive PR.

anyhow, despite all the hate on here, this is something I would love to see. The character would not need to be a major character, just someone that you can interact with (maybe get a side quest from). It would show some movement in the industry. If people are offended by it, they would not have to interact with this character.

I understand the point about trans* people being a huge minority, but why should that limit you? Just because trans* people are uncommon does not mean that they do not exist, they have existed for as long as humanity has been keeping records. There is no reason not to include it, other than laziness or hate.

If it were up to me, I would allow it, even for the PC, look at the Fable series, they have allowed it since the first game.

Do you mean are people asking that games be more inclusive, and do more to show the broad spectrum of people that make up the world? Yes. I think it's a serious and true request, and, imo, not weird at all.

I guess you were serious; I can try and field this one. If someone is trans*, they are not hurting anyone, not physically, not emotionally, not in any way. They are just doing what makes them feel comfortable in their own skin. When someone does some of the other acts you talk about, they destroy another human being, both emotionally and physically. The fact that you cannot see that disturbs me.

Also, if we limit our entertainment on things that will not offend anyone, our entertainment would be really boring. I know people who will not play any videogames because they believe the violence they show is disgusting, and I know another who will not watch TV because of the sheer amount of violence. To each their own.

1) And I am almost certain that Bioware doesn't give two ****s that you are throwing a childish fit over something that you shouldn't care about in the first place.

2) Strawman argument that equates transgender individuals with criminals.  A poor one at that, since most convicted child molestors are straight-identifying males.

I'm really happy that Thedas doesn't ignore the possibility of transgender individuals. As most people in this thread have said, I'm happy with their inclusion as long as it's handled with respect and dignity, which I'm sure Bioware will.

As for a companion character, I wouldn't be opposed... so long as the point of the character wasn't just to be transgender. Certainly there are lots of interesting stories that could be done with a character like that. My only concern with including that would be uprooting all the ugliness that would come with it. Not that this is a reason to avoid it, necessarily, but I certainly wouldn't approach the complexity with anything less than trepidation. My faith in humanity only goes so far, after all.

Really? So, among all things, news about the existence of a transgender character alone is the "best" tease for a fantasy story now. Screw that great setting created around religious fanaticism against gifted invidiuals, or the whole curious theme of Inquisition, obviously transsexuals alone make an rpg a must buy!

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against transgender inviduals, nor do I think anyone has the right to be publicly against it; but the whole "dating simulation" concept has gone too far. Of course I don't object having transgender or gay characters in the game, I object you people making sexual elements like that such a big deal for a fantasy setting, it feels the the whole thing has become a forced part of the character of Dragon Age franchise. I'm a sucker for good fantasy stories, and this thread makes me sick.

Glad to see the immature and intolerant jerks still like crawling from their rocks in order to insult the GLBT community as soon as someone shows us support. Except, no, I'm not really glad at all.

As for a trans companion, I still don't know that I would trust BW to do it well, but as Mr Gaider has stated, we will "find out soon enough." I really hate the speculation though, as it's full of nothing but gross stereotypes (Fenris, Aveline), both of whom have been heavily shown to be their presented gender (I have two characters romancing Fenris, pretty sure they'd know, and there has thus far been absolutely no indication that Aveline isn't female).

With that, I'm out, not interested in reading more stupid offensive crap.
