I am trying to find at least one reason on why the reapers took The Citadel to Earth of all places in the galaxy but I can't. it's completely contrived. Why didn't they take it to Thessia for example?, it was closer to The Citadel space and fully taken by the reapers?

I would say probably to pool together all the harvested humans to create another Human-Reaper. As Vendetta says, Earth's Harvest is about to finish.

The Reapers plan to use phone booths to create human reapers.

Possibly to make a human reaper.

I wonder if the reapers moved the Citadel to the Prothean homeworld in the previous cycle?

I believe that it was the Reaper's plans to move the Citadel to Earth anyway, to collect all the human DNA there. Possibly to have another shot at making a Human Reaper. I do, however, believe that the Reapers carried out that plan early, because they knew that the Crucible was pretty much finished. The most Reapers were over at Earth, so it would be easiest to defend it there.

The devs remembered whilst finishing off Cronos Station that they had all this stuff about taking Earth back, so had to come up with a reason, no matter how contrived, to have both the Crucible and Earth in the same part of the game.

Yeah guess humans were chosen to be the species that the next Reaper was born from so they move it there, use the conduit to grab people and have the Keepers doing the Collectors' job. I wonder if they'd keep moving the Citadel to each following homeworld to make the Destroyers.

That's the idea what game tries to sell, except Reapers could just open mass relay link on London and left the Citadel where it was.

So,

Should have taken it to the core, the cycle would have never won at all.

Because the writing staff figured it'd be dramatic.

I don't think they cared enough to think of an in universe reason. That sounds hard.

One race is turned into a sovereign class reaper per cycle, on average. The place the reaper is made is apparently the Citadel. The collector base served as a surrogate because of extenuating circumstances. Humans were chosen as the race that gets this esteemed honor. Go us.

This is all explained in-game, by the way.

No reason, really.

The Collectors certainly didn't need Earth to make their Reaper (well, it's insinuated that they would target Earth for fresh humans). Given that Earth has been somewhat evacuated after the attack, I wouldn't automatically assume that the Reapers began to run out of humans.

The Collectors had tens of thousands, and they were about half done with the core. The Reapers wouldn't need billions of humans to make the whole thing.

Ya, this is the only thing that makes sense, given what the game has already given us.  It's why we dont have brutes and the like, because they need us to create a reaper.  While all the other races were being turned into reaper troops, we were being truned into a reaper, which would explain the focus, problem is the game never really gave any real narrative focus to the reapers plans.
