If I've said it once, I've said it a zillion times. Get with the program, people. The Reapers were planning the most ****in' Pink Floyd concert in galactic history.

That's why everything feels so dream-like after Shepard gets to the Conduit, weed and LSD. The Catalyst was really some poor kid with a giant bowl of jalapeno popper-flavored doritos.

The citadel being moved to earth is just a means of moving the plot back to earth. I think it couldhave been handled better but whatever.

I am annoyed more by the fact prior to that there seemed to no choice as to whether we should be rushing back to earth rather than fighting the reapers in more strategically sound locations. Why we were supposedly taking back earth rather than taking back the galaxy.

because it would be silly to tell anderson at the beginning of the game that he/she would come back and the final confrontation would be somewhere else. ;)

in short, the devs needed to get the player back to earth for some reason.
having another final confrontation in the widow nebula would be boring .. it also gave the writers a chance to "close the circle" - mass effect started with shepard looking down on earth ... and it ended the same way. nice idea - but not executed well.

this "take earth back" campaign was unlucky ... earth is not important anymore ... the whole galaxy is at stake and earth is just a small part of it.

Of course, the Leviathan could secretly be druids, and they wanted to created their version of wicker men...

Yep, I guess that's what a finished human reaper would look like.

But I have a better question. How did they get the citadel to earth? Ok, so the citadel is a relay but can it perpetuate itself somehow? If so, that's quite cool really. If not, did they use the other relays to move it? Because after Arrival, I was under the impression that there has to be a size limit to what a relay can move.
Is that explained anywhere in game? If so, I missed it/

They were collecting humans for storage on the citadel. Most likely they were going to put them in a reaper, or perhaps turn them into keepers.2.0.

 Or it could be this.

That might be wishful thinking on my part, though.

Go play the game again.....and "listen"

It's made perfectly clear why the Citadel is brought to Earth.

I did listen and I still think it's ludicrous.

What's even more ludicrous is that the Citadel has been taken to earth to speed up the murder and harvest of humans (pretty sick)...........and then people go and pick control and synthesis????

That a section of space conquered in the opening weeks of the war, firmly in the control of the Reapers, and deep within the strongest-held areas of Reaper-occupied space would be a useful place to move the high-value station... especially since said high-value station could be used to finish the ascension of a target species located at the same place?

Considering they didn't do it earlier, it's still somewhat ludicrous. That they don't then use the functions they have previously used on it is further ludicrous. Contrivance is at play, here.

Nope, sorry, that's a plot hole. The correct way to do it would be to pile humans up in little red wagons and drag them all the way from Earth to the Serpent Nebula for "processing". Uphill both ways. In the snow. And the little red wagon has a wobbly wheel.

Also, the Reapers have to be line up single file and play "Whistle While You Work" the whole time.

Because 'Take Earth Back' is a better PR term than 'Defend the Galaxy' or 'Face Your Annihilation' (I loved when Harbinger said that) or anything else, really.

Besides, Earth is the focal point around which the whole universe spins, you know. That's not me saying that, that's scientific fact.

Yes. Earth is the center of the universe. Everything happens in downtown New York London.

or they just sped up their plans because they learned of ours. They've never failed. There's no rush. Until they learn of what Shepard intends to do, they just go forward with their plans....complete the harvest of our species and begin construction of a human Reaper, while also bringing the Citadel to the area of space where Reaper forces are most concentrated.

There's two big reasons why it was moved to Earth. And a perfectly logical reason why it wasn't moved there sooner.

There's nothing contrived about it. You're grasping.

Why says they could have done it earlier?

Contrivance is at play, here.

This is fiction. Every plot development, from Shepard becoming a Spectre candidate and getting the Prothean beacon to the Suicide Mission, is contrived.

he didn't say the "first" section of space that was conquered.....did he? Nope.

Nonetheless, we (the human race) have been targeted for "ascension". Makes perfect sense that a significant amount of Reaper forces will be concentrated around our homeworld.

Khar'shan doesn't house the species targetted for ascension into a Dreadnaught. So... no. I don't mean Khar'shan.

I disagree. If logic was involved, they would care about efficiency. Just taking the Citadel and shutting down the relays would have had a huge impact on the way the war was going. It'd be hard to build the Crucible using the supplies from a single cluster, for instance. There is a contrivance here and its not buried very deep.

Nothing stopped them. It comes across as something they can just *do*.

I'm afraid that's not how the word is used in this sense. It has negative connotations here.

Kabooooom is correct as well as TIM has something to do with it as well. He was in a mind to control reapers and used them for his purposes. Some game lore hints as he ran over and told them about Shep finding out about the catalyst..if my memory serves.

They took it there because they were making the human reaper and they could just teleport all the bodies up to the Citadel for processing. That's why all those bodies are piled around the beam.  Plus it was where the bulk of their forces were so it was easier to protect there once they took it.

The bigger questions are.

1) How did they move it there?
2) If it was that easy, why didn't they just take the Citadel earlier, and then go back the normal plan?
3) Once they had the Citadel at Earth, why didn't they shut down the Charon relay and reap Earth at their leisure?
