Because the plot demanded so.

This. To all the "make a reaper" posts, why didn't the Reapers move the Citadel to harvest humans on the colony worlds? There's several billion humans outside of Earth.

Because harvesting of a population of a planet takes a long time. While yes, their are a signifigant amount of humans outside of Sol, the Reapers wouldn't have allocated a slaughter ship to each one, and moving the Citadel to each one of these potentially remote colonies would take time.

Earth was one of the first planets hit during the Invasion, and has been the focus of the Reapers human harvesting. Therefore, it would make sense that the Citadel would first go there to recieve most of the workable genetic material.

Wouldn't have allocated a slaughter ship to each colony? They conquered the entire galaxy before Shepard attacks Earth. And since they only found humans acceptable to be a Reaper why did they attack every single species instead on focusing on the human Reaper?

And you're completely ignoring ME2..

You know where the colonies were the ones being hit.  ME2 proves that A) they don't need to mvoe the Citadel to harvest humans and B) they will sue human resources outside of Earth.

BioWare needed the final battle to be on Earth and gave a poor excuse for it.

It seems like this question never received a decent in-universe answer. All we get is 'Take Back Earth + maybe the Citadel will be there too'.

The Reapers grab the Citadel at an arbitrary point and proceed to do nothing with it. They then fail to defend it from an assault. This is why the word 'contrived' is so applicable here.
