I have been utterly shocked at the lack of Teagan fics, as well. As many of YOU people know, I'm the biggest Teagan fangirl out there, so it was entirely natural for me to base my fic around him as the male lead.

Of the 6 you can find on ff.net, only two of them, I think, are actual longer fics that ship the PC/Teagan. Though to be perfectly honest, I had a hard time imagining a scenario where my PC would get with Teagan when Alistair was still around (yes, I <3 Ali)

Personally, I love Alistair, I think he is a brilliant character. Which is why I shied away from trying to write him, actually. I felt like I would do him a disservice, and it's much easier to write original (or semi-original) characters, at least for me. I wouldn't want to insult David Gaider by utterly butchering his...well..his coup de grace, so to speak. I think Alistair is one of the best characters he's written, and who am I to go in and muck with it? Some schlub on the internet with too much time on her hands.

Fortunately, one of the endings of the game provided me with a great opportunity to not only write a Teagan fic, but do it in a way that hopefully goes a little bit deeper than the typical "PC and Male!Lead fall into the sack after two chapters of witty banter" story. While that type might garner more reviews on ff.net, It's not the story that is clawing its way out of my head.

And last but not least, Shavon, like Jules said, don't let it turn you off. Write for you, it's what I'm doing. I'm writing my fic for practice and experience in dialogue and characterization. If people like it, great. If not, well, fine, I just hope they'd tell me why in a constructive and helpful manner.

Yeah....this is exactly what's held me back from writing anything until this point.  Alistair is already a great character...and I don't know if I could do him justice in a fic.  He's a very good mix of seriousness and irreverance and I'm having a really difficult time trying to figure out how he would respond to the way my character would feel after....the ritual.

I might give it a try and see if I think it's worth putting up.  I really really wish they'd have let you have that conversation.  You can talk to Morrigan about it...but Alistair still just says, "Something you need my dear?"  That doesn't exactly make sense to me.

well, here I am, the guilty party. I am currently writting a fan fic that depicts my PC and Alistair. I am hoping to ge the first chapter finished here soon. Its not the conventional Ali/PC romance. But then again, when I'm done, you'll understand.

But still, the reason Alister is such a *charmer* for teh ladies is a mixture of things that appeal to women. He has a great sense of humor, looks *pleasing* to the eye, is a gentleman, and a teddy bear that most women want to hold in their arms and coo over. All of this just makes Alistair appealing to the masses.

Zevran has the appeal because he's like Antonio Benderas in Zorro. He's romantic, yet very roguish, and willing to pleasure you in anyways you want. And the accent.. . that always drive women nuts.

Wow interesting stats (though I'm not surprised by the popularity of the Alistair/femCousland pair). Thanks for posting this! I have to admit, my favourite Dragon Age fanfics do not have an established origin or an established look/appearance of the Grey Warden... those stories leave that part out for the reader to fill in are the ones I LOVE reading. Cases in point: "Endlessly" by NotLaura and "Princesses" by Bladesworn

Don't let stats turn you off from writing.  Write because you feel you need to write!  Ultimately you're writing the fanfic for yourself.  I haven't tried my hand at DA fanfiction yet, but I write a lot of other stuff, mostly OC in cannon worlds.

I've been tossing around the idea of writing an Alistair/PC fic.  It would be after the dark ritual.  Probably something that's been done a million and one times...but I feel unsatisfied by the lack of address the game gives this scene.  I'd LOVE to be part of that conversation.

Other scenes I might write out, just for grins:

-In Andraste's Temple...they all get naked and walk through the fire and nobody has anything to say.

-In Fort Drakkan (sp?) When you and Alistair get captured.  There's got to be some great story points there, especially if PC is romantically involved with him.  As awesome as, "Oh. Help. My friend is dying. *shifty eyes* "  Is...there's a fanart picture out there that's inspired me to quite a bit more.

Thanks

Hm, I definitely won't stop writing, but you are right, perhaps I should publish anyway.  Yeah, I've wondered the Sacred Ashes thing, as well.  Although, I bring Leliana, Wynne and Alistair, the most reverent three, so maybe that's why?

I've been writing in pieces based on whatever I've played is freshest in mind, but I want to write a fic on  Alistair's joining, Fiona being there or something.  If she (spoiler) truly can't die from the taint now, she should still be alive during the time of DA, right?(spoiler)

Interesting stats Maria. I have to give the writers of Dragon Age credit for getting me back to writting after years of putting it on hold. I have a fantasy series I have been working on for years that I put on the shelf after having kids. The need to finish telling my character's story awoke the muse again. I am writing fanfic partly because the ending to the story is rattling around in my head begging to be put into prose. The other reason is as an exercise to improve my writing- fanfic is a forum when I can put something out and hope to get constructive criticism. As for writing about Zev, well he is one of my favorite characters.

Shockingly, CULLEN, that one dude from the Mage origin who goes insane later on is as popular as one of the love interests and more popular than any of the regular companions.

I know right! I'm totally shocked by this too. If I'd known how popular he'd be, I would've written in some kind of closure for him and the femMagePC. Sorry, guys. I should've known, I guess. It seems the fangirls will set their sights on any male character who looks vaguely humanoid (see: Thane). Ah... hindsight. Anyway I'll know for next time, I guess? Posted Image

Thane's personality is what does it . . . wut? I didn't say anything :P

I fell so bad for Cullen. It reminds me of the Thornbirds a bit. A Catholic Priest falls in love with one of his parishioners, and can't do anything about it because of the damn church rules . . .

He's so afraid of violating Templar code, that he won't hook up with the mage and goes insane :( I'd right a happy ending fic just for him but there are plenty out there as it is.

Eek, I do both - is that wrong?  And yes, as a 40 year old woman, I feel a tad uncomfy and ashamed about indulging my inner adolescent.  But I am safe in the knowledge that no one I know would ever dream of going within a thousand clicks of ff.net, so hopefully, no one will find out. :bandit:

Anyway, bravo for you, and who gives a flying…

(I’m going to read your stories now.) :)

I still haven't gotten over my uncomfy feelings about posting FanFic.  It's one of those things I always said:  Nooooo, not me.  Never!

But yeah there is my stuff, sitting for all to see.

I also take comfort in the fact that no one I know would EVER click.  I also post my stuff on FF until a different name than my usual net nick.  Of course, anyone that knows me well could probably identify me.  But that small little effort in obfuscation makes me feel a little better.

As to the stats previously mentioned, I suppose I don't find it all that surprising.  I know that I have some Alistair romance in my fics, but I also have written stuff about Zevran and Cullen (though nothing romantic about him).

You have to admit, that near insectoid throaty voice Garrus and Thane has is downright hypnotic.

I think people interpret Cullen as being way nicer than he really is.  He's not just held back by Templar rules, he's held back by the core belief that the mage character is unclean and that his feelings for her are polluting him.  His self-loathing is only surpassed by his loathing of the mage PC.

Cullen is a sick puppy.

Well, I sympathize with the never writing fanfic thing. And here I am, spamming Kerridan with it 'cause I'm chicken.

Between your misogyny and love of tragic romances, it might be better that you didn't go down that path.

It has to be more than that. Sten doesn’t get any attention despite being big, silent, and dependable.

okay...so I couldn't help myself. I wrote out that scene I was talking about earlier. The one where PC is pulling her hair out while....the ritual is going on. I was worried about writing Alistiar...so I didn't. I wrote it up with pen and paper today and I need to type it up...but then I think I might post it to see what you guys think.

I don't have an account anywhere I could post it, is it acceptable to start a thread here and just post it there?

He's already got more fanfics than any other non-romanceable party member.  Poor man.  I can't even print the transcript of the conversation where I told him that.

I have gone down that path in my mind, and yes, it's nasty. Cullen is totally FUBAR'd.

I'd say he starts out tragically oppressed with some tendencies towards creepy stalker (I think you'd have to be, to be a templar). He ends up, I believe, completely broken mentally and emotionally and hates both himself and the femMagePC. I think nothing, not even love, can redeem him. He's too far gone. Of course, that's not canon, it's just my take on it, and I revel in the angst and the pain.

Good lord, that's beautiful and tragic.  lol.

Angst and pain = = good romance.

Poor Cullen...though I have to add my surprise at his popularity to the pot.  Then again...I haven't played as the fem!mage.  *is obsessed with swords*
