Wow this thread exploded overnight lol. I'll drop my two cents in on the things brought up.

Cullen never struck me as a stalker type. When I played my female mage I felt that he was a man torn between duty and what his heart desired most. The Chantry tells normal humans that magic is the devil so to speak and that it has to be watched at all times. But what's more enticing than the forbidden fruit? I suspected Cullen was interested when I saw the options in the dialogue and felt letdown that you couldn't explore more of Cullen's character aside from what you're given at face value. When you run across him later in that forcefield I felt crushed to hear his confession. I wanted to baby him and show him that not all mages are bad. It was just a shame to see him broken. It was like his views were shattered into a million pieces. Sort of like the song Breathe No More by Evanescence http://www.azlyrics....athenomore.html

I never got the ending where Cullen went nuts even on my mage playthrough. I guess something has to be done to get that but I haven't quite figured out what. For me it was a hope that Cullen eventually recovered but that's just my silly hope.

As for Alistair...I dearly love his character and do recognize the faults in him. Yes he is a boy in a man's body. The guy grew up in a chantry and wasn't exposed to life as we know it. He's sheltered and naive. These qualities are childlike and that was the point I believe. When you tell him the harsh truth about life he starts to realize he can't be the innocent he once was. He has to grow up and take responsibility for his actions. Sure he still whines in the game but take a look at most men in the real world. Most NEVER grow up.

I think for both instances we're suppose to feel or fall for these characters. It's I guess a natural instinct for a lot of women to want to fix things. We want to fix the wrongs done to Cullen and Alistair. It's a woman's curse lol.

Have I mentioned how awesome it is that the developers and writers keep up on the message boards? It's awesome. Bioware love.

In response more to the discussion way back on the first page/OP...

As many have said, Alistair's popularity doesn't surprise me one bit, especially since women tend to write more fanfiction than men. That being said, while I like the dorky templar and all, I personally get tired of seeing Alistair/F!Cousland stuff everywhere. I don't begrudge people writing what they want to, I'm just bored of the pairing already. But that's what FF.net's filtering system is for.

I have one fiction up there, and I put the chapters on my blog here too: I'm one of the 20 who wrote for Leliana. While a straight female myself, I actually prefer playing males in most games (I'm already a woman, so what's the fun in playing what I already am? :P). Seeing as my favorite Warden (also my current avatar) is a mage who romances Leliana - my favorite companion in DA:O - I guess it was only natural for me to write about her, popularity be damned. I've hardly gotten any reviews on my work, but I write it because it's fun and I personally think Leliana deserves more attention.

Nah, they'd be too busy being jealous of the femmage PC.

Ok, then maybe they could take off their shirts and start throwing punches around.  :P

Isn't that the point?  LOL

Seriously, though, my "canon" is my elf mage.  I don't like the Couslands that much, though I'm playing one now just to be Queen.  It's just something about being an overpowered underdog I like.  A lot.

This seriously is giving me the idea for a silly fic about a man fight and a puddle of mud.

Mmm, man fight.... Is it just me or is it getting a tad bit warm? Yeah, I'm a dirty old woman, so?

We could throw Teagan in there too.  He could go in to stop the fight and inadvertently get pulled into the fray.  Then Duncan could come along and scream 'Submit yourself to the taint' and just beat them all.

You just see men as objects of your desire. They are more than a bundle of muscles glistening in the sunlight as they tense while grappling!

Hah, that could make for some rather funny fanart if someone wanted to tackle it.  I would have to request that Riordan get his own pictorial as well.

I'm sorry, you lost me at "desire," "muscles," "glistening," and "grappling."

Sandal...lawl.  Omg.   But waaaaaaaaaah, Riordan!  As to Mr. Christmas himself, I can easily imagine him sitting on the ground with a strategically place santa hat on.

Oh.... my...... Y'all know, I'm from the South and my Southern sensibilities can not take much more, especially the thought of the hat not moving while the candy canes are being wielded.....

I dunno...Cullen's sweetness factor dropped dramatically when he confessed to my mage that he was the one that would have killed her at her Harrowing...and he wasn't like "I don't know what I would've done!" he was like "I totally would have done it, too." But then, I always imagined my mage PC (who is my canon pc) would have a deep abiding hatred of the Templars. I was seriously disappointed that, upon returning for the Circle of Magi quest, one of my options wasn't to go ballistic and roast anything and everything in a tin suit for even considering that whole Rite of Annulment thing.
