When I play femshep I either go with Liara or no one at all. I guess if I were thinking outside the box I'd take garrus. But I just can't, Garrus will always be my Best bro and Space Batman. But if I were a gal I could see the appeal of Garrus.

I love that scene in Kasumi's loyalty mission where it looks like Shep is looking at Kasumi's boobs. I wish I could ship Femshep and Kasumi.

MaleShep Best - Tali or Kaidan. Both have the evolution of friendship to something more and are equally endearing. I think I may like Kaidan/MaleShep more than Kaidan/FemShep, to be honest. I've never actually played the romances, though, only watched the hubby romance Tali and watched Kaidan/MaleShep on YouTube. I realize Tali has her hero-worshipping moments and is/was a virgin, but as she was not romanceable in ME1 (and does not come on to FemShep), she is far less obnoxious about it.

As far as we know, Liara is a virgin.  Though you may never know for sure.

When I don't romance Tali I like to think of her as a little sister to Shepard (considering she is the youngest squadmate barring Grunt).  She sees Shepard as leader as well as an analogue to an older sibling (or possibly a father-figure when playing as a Male Shepard).  All the other squadmates feel a little more than good friends with Shepard (IMO) but I feel that Tali is closer to Shepard than the others (even more-so when you romance her).

As I understand it, Tali and Jack are both 24 in ME2. Ashley, by comparison, is 25 in ME1.

I've never watched or played MShep/Kaidan, but I agree with all of Neria Rose's other points.

Really?   I'm a diehard Talimancer too, but I thought that the Garrus/Tali romance was somewhat creative (then again, if you listen to the Turian and Quarian talking in the bar on Illium in ME2 it seems less creative than almost all of the other romances... even the Jacob romance).  The first time I didn't romance Tali I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them "making out" (I'm not sure I should call it that because of Tali's helmet) in the forward battery.  I had to pause the game to process what I saw before I figured out how I should react.  I'm not sure how Garrusmancers feel about Tali hooking up with Garrus (if they don't romance him) but I assume it would be similar to how us Talimancers feel about it.

I don't feel "threatened" by what happens in alternate universes. I've had one Shepard romance Tali (canon playthrough), one romance Garrus, and two where they got together. I did get the "sibling" vibe off of them, though - their relationship seemed a little out-of-place, but then so did Jacob cheating (the man's defining attribute was honesty).

For some reason, I always thought Garrus and Kasumi would have been a better match. And of course, they had to kill off Kal. <_<

It doesn't matter if people feel right about it. In a story with this many characters, it was bound to happen. Garrus is the designated wingman and Liara the love interest, but Garrus is kind of a loner even with Shepard there so we make the second-most important female character the wingman's love interest. Tropes is tropes.

Best... most of the Romances have high points so I'll just discuss the worse


Worst: ...Is this a contest? Objectively you'll be hard pressed to find someone that likes the Fact not only did Jacob sit on his ass for a few months -everybody else is off doing something or trying to prepare for the Reapers-
but he has abandoned you for the new girl cause you weren't around., I'd almost be more willing to accept it if him and Miranda got back together... NOPE random new Female and thier more hopeless in love then you ever were!

Now you could argue "But Most of Me2's romances came off as Shepard wanting to have sex with someone not a relationship!'

Which would be fine... if anybody else moved on too.

I really can't hate Kelly or Diana's cause... lets be fair they come off as simple porn plots -Bang your assistant, Bang the Reporter-

... Hell Traynor's is Kelly's romance just more graphic.

Cortez's feels too much like a rebound.

and No romance Kasumi option... or pick up with Shiala.

As long as Bioware keeps the player's choices as the cannon I'm happy, no Tali and Garrus in ME4 or something if your Shepard romanced her in ME2/3.

Worst: Jacob. Why? In ME2 he seems like the most moral person in the squad and then he goes and cheats on you. Totally out of character.

Can't comment on best. But I really wished Samara was romanceable. In my head canon she is. *sigh*. If I can't romance her, my Shepard isn't gonna romance anyone. Maybe we'll hear more about that in Citadel? I hope so.

ME3: COULD have been Thane if they hadn't switched writers, but they did, so Tali

Worst out of all three games: Jacob. He was a poorly portrayed stereotype in 2 and good riddance in 3.

For the purposes of this post I only counted as romances characters that Shep could have an actual romantic relationship with, as in "displaying or expressing love or strong affection". One night stands need not apply.
