Can you romance Tallis? (That elven assassin played by Felicia Day).

If so, that would be epic.

My take:

In DAO my favorite romance is the Alistair romance. It has is both sweet and corny that I personally find appealing, especially if you harden him (although the actual line to harden him makes little sense). My next favorite in DAO would be Lelianna for similiar reasons (although I think the Alistair one is better). Both the Morrigan and Zevran romances leave me a bit cold to be honest (although I do understand the appeal for some).

Going to DA2, I like the Merrill romance far and away the most. Again, it has the sweet corniness that I happen to like. The one thing that puts me off is Merrill's (IMHO) somewhat prepubescent appearence which starts to push my inner *squick* button. I like the Isabella romance as a distant second (and it's a very different romance but I like it). The Fenris romance leaves me a little cold, and I actively dislike Anders in DA2 let alone his romance (I did it once for completion sake....did not care for it).

As for the special romances, I actively dislike the Sebastian Sort-Of romance. If a marriage is supposed to be "special and in-the-eyes-of-the-Maker" then where was he when fem-Hawke's mother died?! Sex may be off the table, but comforting a grieving spouse-in-spirit should be there, yes? That and other things make me view Sebastian as a bit of a hypocrit. As for Tallis, there is no romance with her other than a kiss at the end of MotA and that seems hardly worth it.

My personal favorites:

Far and away, I loved Alistair (Origins) and Anders (DA2) the most. They've been my favorite so far, hands down, though I also really enjoyed Merrill's romance. And, while not my favorites, I still liked Isabela, Leliana, and Zevran's romances. Fenris was regularly infuriating, but very entertaining.

I suppose the only one I never really got into was Morrigan's. And that has less to do with the romance (which was fine) and more to do with the fact that I just don't like her.

Really, all the romances have been great. I'm excited to see what's coming for Inquisition.

Sorry to disappoint you, but you can't romance Varric. Interesting thread. Happy Valentine's Day. :{

My favorite romance in Origins was with Morrigan. A Witch of the Wild. She was intelligent and clever, and there was a lot more to her than she let on. I liked establishing a real friendship with her that lead to more, and how she genuinely cared about my Surana Warden, even though it went against everything that her mother taught her. I liked how she noted that she realized my protagonist was very different from the rest of his companions (during their initial encounter). My Hero of Ferelden left everything behind to be with her, into the destination unknown of the Eluvian (with his trusty Mabari Hound, of course).

My favorite romance in DA][ was with Merrill. It was cool to have a Dalish apostate as a companion. I liked her proactive actions, her dry humor, and how she stood for her beliefs in the face of adversity (whether it was her religious views or her efforts to help end the plight of the People). It was nice to have an intelligent blood mage who represented another culture that was almost to most Andrastians, and seeing the difficulties she faced, with my SH/BM Hawke being the only person who stood by her.

Interestingly, I knew Claudia Black's voice from Farscape, and Eve Myles' voice from Torchwood.

Morrigan best (damn sure went through that mirror.) Isabela was fun, though I'm not sure casual sex equals romance. Best buddy characters: Alistair, Fenris, Varick, and Leliana (would love to lead a campaign with all the above in tow.)

Dragon Age Origins:
My favorite must be Leliana, I just like the sweetness of it. Everything about her character appeal to me, a worldly personality, a cute voice and a simplistic look even though she is pretty. Alistair is a second, as Polaris said his romance accompliches something sweet in the slight corny way without overdoing it.

Both Zevran and Morrigan start out as "let's have sex and no more" which doesn't appeal much to me so I had a hard time getting hooked on their seperate romances. (In fact I'm completing a playthrough romancing Morrigan only in tmy most recent playthrough, the 44th.)
I did romance Zevran a few times because I like his flirtatious spirit and humor, but I always have to rolaplay a bit outside my own perspective to go through with it.

Dragon Age 2:
My favorite is not very hard here, that is Merrill. She is the only one of the allowed romances that I could honestly imagine Hawke falling in love with. (Would so have digged Varric ;_;)
Merrill is sweet, her looks follow her personality well and I like her journey from one world into another. I just still wished Dragon Age 2 contained a bit more romantic content overall.

The rest of 2 I don't care much for. I feel inclined to say Sebastian's "romance" is the closest second, but that would only be because of the prospect of marrying the man, which is only and option as a friend. (I happen to prefer him as a rival.)
Fenris is closer than the rest but I still cannot figure why *my* Hawke would ever fall in love with him in the first place, especially if he/she is a mage.
Isabela is okay but there is the same trouble with her as Morrigan and Zevran that it starts out "for fun" which I beleive romance isn't supposed to be solely (though it should be an element.)
I won't comment on Anders there is far too much posession and dramaqueen stuff in that romance for me to care, even if I have completed it and have started to like Anders a bit more after distancing myself from DA2 for a time.
Tallis is not a romance.

Best romance in Origins is Alistair with Zevran as a close second, especially for a male warden. Morrigan is fun to sleep with and seems to not take it seriously until she starts getting possessive and demands you chose. If it isn't serious, then why make me choose, witch! lol!

Least favorite in origins is Leliana. She's so boring I don't even want to take the time to pursue her. I tried once and gave up after skipping most of her lines. lol!

Dragon Age 2: I'm on my first play through. I hate how limited it is in that I can't stop and actually talk to my teammates to build a solid relationship. At least let me be able to visit them alone whenever i go to there locations and talk to them without it being a random cut scene or quest. Anyway, I tried romancing Fernis as i love his voice and intensity but I think I missed some cues and banged Isabella and ruined it. LOL! So right now, My Hawke is in an unofficial "relationship" with Isabella and its okay. She's a laid back free spirited woman and I think she suits my bad boy Hawke nicely. I tried romancing Anders and was making progress but he gives me a mega headache with his woe as me mage drama to the point where I turned him down when he asked me to help him sneak into the chantry and when I pressed for info he started throwing up his usual mage garbage and not minding people dying et al and I told him off and that was that.

In my next playthrough I'll try to focus more on Fernis.

In Origins, hands down my favorite was Alistair. Goofy, sweet, funny and I adore Steve Valentine's voice. I tried the others and the only one I could complete was Leliana's, more as a default for my male Cousland than any particular preference over Zevran or Morrigan. Zevran is firmly 'friend' zoned, I just can't romance him. And Morrigan's is too bittersweet with her story arc being what it is.

For "Non-Romances" I liked Gorim best, though I never finished either dwarf origin.

In DA2, my favorite was Isabela. The romance shows surprising depth of writing and she had the most passionate (and funny with the 'disarmament') cutscene. I liked Fenris/Merrill about equally well. Fenris shows remarkable intensity when romanced, though his 3 year gap was jarring. Merrill's romance was sweet and a bit corny but suits her personality well and a lot of fun. Anders left me cold. I could barely tolerate having him in my groups when I had to have him. Sebastian was boring.

For 'Non-romances' I liked Aveline and Donnic. "The Long Road" is my favorite quest from DA2 and had she been romanceable I'd have romanced Aveline. Varric isn't a romance, you can't even flirt with him, though I would have had he been available.

And it's late, but "Happy Valentine's Day".

I think all romances have their own merits, but as far as favorites go, mine are Anders and Alistair's. I also adore Leliana's and Merrill's romances.

DA:O Fave: It's a toughie, but I'll go with Alistair simply for the fact that he'll break up with you / sacrifice himself for you under the right circumstances. Adds a little spice to the romance if there isn't a guaranteed Happily Ever After with just the flirty lines.

DA:O Least Fave: Morrigan. I like her as a strong, independent character. The romance shows a more sentimental side which I don't particularly like on her.

DA2 Fave: Not sure I like any of them much, but I'll go with Merrill as it works well with her charatacer. Your DA2 LI will completely idolise you (for little reason, as far as I can see), and this works best with her, I think.

DA2 Least Fave: It would have been Isabella for the same reason as Morrigan (exactly WHY does she fall for Hawke? What's so irresistable about Hawke to tame the great whoring Pirate Queen) but the knife bit in the "sex" scene did make me laugh, so she earned a few extra points for that, leaving in last place...

Anders. I know he got a total personality transplant, but his change from incorrigible womaniser in Awakenings to bisexual in DA2 did jar me.

DAO fave: I am on the fence about Alistair because I'll be honest here, I didn't harden him through my semi-blind playthrough and he broke up with me when he became king, which I will never forgot. Still plotting revenge. But I will say I like the romance and I love Morrigan's too, though I never finished it.

DAO least: Lelianna and Zevran, but more so Lelianna. Every time I question her beliefs about religion she gets to the point of giving me negatives and doesn't come up with the best argument. Since we have little in common there, besides some stories and a passing interest in fashion, we don't have as much in common as I would like. Zev on the other hand I love more so as a companion than a romance, I love his views on sex and death, but death in particular. I lacked that kind of deep conversation with Alsitair because he is not that bright and more judgmental.

DAII faves: Anders because to me he was "right" about a lot of things and unlike the characters in DAO who were more on the "good" side of things (ex. Wynne and Alsitair.) I felt they were extreme good characters I am kind of this chaotic neutral person who found myself agreeing more so with Morrigan's views on most of everything. SO, I bit my lip with those characters, mostly Wynne. With Anders, he wasn't blind about the dark side of Justice or life completely and he is a polarized character. Maybe unstable at times. I find myself not only having sympathy towards his problems and views, but I find his character development throughout DAA-DAII and it's acts very interesting. Basically, I find that I can be "myself" with him more than say Alistair and I find him more devoted in some respects than Alistair.

I tend to like the romances better in II because I am more interested in the characters than in Origins when it comes to that sort of thing. That being said I love Fenris and Isabela too. Isabela because I find how she comes around to the idea of love to be good. See, the way I see it is that it's not just that Isabela is afraid of being loved, it's also that under all that exterior she suffers from some self-esteem issues likely stemming from her childhood. I think this is the best explanation for some of her behavior. I also agree with Anders that she is a lot less selfish than she pretends she is. (Plus, I knew someone just like Isabela once upon a time. I find myself having a lot of fun with her.)

Fenris, I am not done with my romances but not only do I love his voice I love his personality too. For my femhawke it's between him and Anders. Fenris appeals to me in certain ways that Anders does not fulfill. Namely, even though I "side with the mages" on freedom issues I am certainly aware of there being corrupt and arrogant mages who try to defy the Maker for power as Fenris puts it. I am very, and surprisingly sympathetic to Fenris's plight and views about mages. I understand why he has so much anger towards them. I know that as long as some people are able to obtain power they will not be good. This much we agree on.

DAII least: the last part leaves out, you guessed it: Merrill. I am sure someone can find some fulfillment and while I can deal with certain amounts of stupidity, naivete, and willful ignorance I have dealt with so many people that are similar to Merrill about certain things concerning magic in the pagan community in real life that I have very, VERY little patience for Merrill. She is an adult, her character does not change as much as the other 3 mentioned in the game. Despite her moe [anime term] appearance she keeps her eyes closed as Flemeth had said. Whenever I put Fen and Anders in the party with me with Merrill I find myself agreeing with how they are somewhat mean towards her, though Fenris is harsher than I would be. I don't *hate* or *dislike* Merrill. I find her to be pure of heart, but it's hard for me to be nice to someone who just won't listen as seen with the rivalry where she gets mad at people looking out for her best interests. It's just too hard for me to be THAT nice concerning the ignorance, stupidity, and subject.( I do like her and Isabela's relationship though.) However, there are a few reasonable things Merrill has said that I agree with. Such as the templars killing people whose only crime is being born a mage and some of her views on spirits are pretty well thought out and less black and white than Anders's view.

oh and Sebastian because though I am very attracted to him and it takes every ounce of my control not to tease him, I find him off limits since I find the idea of a sexless relationship/marriage unappealing. It's not that I don't have understanding for circumstances such as sickness, it's that he's doing this while being perfectly healthy.;)

You can? I did have him a couple times with me, but I think it may have been on male Hawke's.  My usual party in there is Merrill/Aveline/Isabela.  And since Merrill becomes my default mage companion if I don't play a mage, her scene overrides his on those times I did take him.

I don't think I ever had the right combo of gender/companions to get the flirt option.

There is also a kind of silly/funny conversation when you go see Merrill in Act 2 and she discusses the mirror for the first time.  Usually if I'm going to romance her, that's when I do the first flirtation.  If you have Varric with you, she will make a comment like "I bet you say that to Varric all the time."  And Varric will respond with something along the lines of "Who can resist this handsome face?"

I love Varric, easily my favorite NPC in DA2 for his easygoing attitudes, his practicality and his stories making a 'action hero' out of Hawke.
