In real life, I would probably choose Destroy

In real life, Control would freaking scare me. I wouldn't want to become a synthetic super-intelligence controlling the most powerful beings in the galaxy.

Synthesis would sound utterly insane and unbelievable.

So I would choose Destroy. Yeah. Afterward, I would become an advocate for synthetic rights and attempt to explain their perspective to the rest of the galaxy.

You wouldn't have to. It's no secret that the Geth helped construct the Crucible and helped retake Earth.

Does this mean when you choose destroy, you won't walk into the exploding tube?

I think that would be freaking awesome and I'd totally go for that.

Well, I can't say what I would do in real life. But as far as the MEU goes, my Shepard does (yes, headcanon) the same thing with being an advocate for synthetic rights as she managed to live. Plus, I don't think anyone would forget what the Geth did for them, or that the Normandy crew would forget what EDI did for them.

I would. I aliens attacked the Earth tomorrow, and all the nations got together, built a weapon that all agreed was the only way to win, then deployed. If at the last minute I found out that I had to option to:

A) Use the weapon and have the population of the country that the aliens were massed in become collateral damage, but wipe out the aliens for good.
B) Appoint one person to take over control of the aliens and hope that one person is responsible with the power for eternity.
C) Become one with these aliens who have just murdered millions of humans.

I'd pick 'A' all day everyday and twice on Sunday.

That's more or less why I chose Destroy, the safe option.

Even if it meant horribly burning to death in agony?

I choose Destroy, but I'm with you, Cosmic. I'm not sympathetic to the Geth, but I'd be pushing for the Council's categorical AI ban to be overturned all the same.

I'd probably slump down and sit on the floor away from the tube instead of staggering into the blast front, though.

If that was presented to me in RL, I'd probably go insane for even having to ponder it.

Have fun no longer existing then. Tell me how that whole "being electrocuted to ASHES" thing went.

You will die...
You will lose everything you have...
You will no longer be organic...
Your connection to your kind will be lost...

In real life I probably would have lost my temper and shot the catalyst before he finished explaining my options. I'm not a violent person, but I don't take kindly to being talked down to and ordered around by prehistoric mass murderers. After everything the Reapers put Shepard before they got to that point, I can't imagine Shepard not hating them and whoever holds their leash with every fiber of their being, no matter how they may try to rationalize their crimes.

And? My legacy would live on forever, thus I too would continue to live on forever. I'm just saying, If I could transcend my mortal being I would. By doing so my actions could change the world for the better.

I was hinting at that what you create there may not be you anymore. The AI in the Control ending also never refers to Shepard as "me", but "him/her"...

But it's fine, I think we already established that I understand your POV :wizard:

Genocide is a 'safe' option? It isn't too 'safe' for all the people who'd die. But hey, don't mind me, I'm just a guy with a decent set of ethics and an understanding of why too much binary opposition in one's thinking is more dangerous thananything.

Edit: For those who might not understand...

By picking Destroy, you choose to slaughter in cold blood:

- The geth and any other synthetics that we're not aware of.
- EDI. (Sorry Joker, Shepard wasn't ready to allow you your happiness.)
- Every species preserved within the reaper consensus.

You'd kind of make Hitler look like John Lennon.

Still trolling, huh?

You tell me then how to defend what the Reapers did. They are the agressors. They bring war, they bring death. They brainwash us, and if they don't kill us right away, they turn us into abominations or get us into concentration camps to be "processed".

The Reapers are by far the most horrifying threat the Mass Effect universe has ever seen. They have oceans of innocent blood on their tentacles. And the only reason that it has to come to the collatoral damage that you call "genocide" is the fact that the Reapers won't stop killing unless we make them.

Wulfie, you seem to have a rather strict set of ethics. Are we all to judge a loss of freedom as preferable to death?
