To be honest, the ending has never bothered me, but I never liked it either.

It's an ending. Is it satisfying? No. Is it absolutely terrible? I don't think so.

Could it be better? Absolutely.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

Just ease up a bit.

In hindsight I like the ending, it wasn't the best but no where near the "It makes me physically ill" of the early days

I'm not too too disappointed in the ending; I'm disappointed that there won't be ME4, and you should, too. Here's why: The endings of the ME games have never mattered! That's right. Save or kill the Council in ME1? Who cares! It doesn't do anything galaxy-shattering in ME2. Keep or destroy the Collector base at the end of ME2? Who cares! It's only a difference of about 10 war assets in ME3. RGB in ME3? Who cares! Oh, wait, damn. There won't be an ME4 so we can't see that RGB would've been plutoed, too. You know it would've. All these epic end-game decisions and subsequent endless, exciting debates, and all we get for it is ME Trilogy endings that have never mattered until Bioware killed ME4, because we can't see the consistent, anticlimactic results.

Well said OP. I can barely digest destroy... just barely with renegade. Bioware lost all sense of reason and logic during those last 20 minutes. I mean they were idiots during other parts of the story but Priority Earth with the Extended Cut take the cake. So many laughable errors in common sense that even a neanderthal would laugh at. Never again I will be investing time in another trilogy from Bioware.

The endings are what they are. But anyway, I was playing earlier today and my Shepard and Garrus were talking about how reducing the people involved in a war to a number was a terrible thing. Huh. I thought that was the point of the whole freaking game! The ruthless calculus of war and blah blah blah.
Anyway, ME3 is a good game with many problems that exist outside of the ending. I guess that is my point.

I'll probably go to the special hell for saying this, but I laughed my way through the EC.

Particularly the bit where theres about five seconds or so of the Normandy and Harbinger just staring each other down. I think its Harby's little smile that does it. Or the fact that the Normandy has Thannix Cannons and Harbinger has his lazer and neither of them fires for some unfathomable reason. I just sort of burst out laughing at that scene. Made the EC rather enjoyable actually.

And the Catalyst's logic just got worse and so I skipped even more merrily to Destroy.

It really didn't fix anything, but I did get a good laugh out of it, so I guess thats something.

If you're in hell, then I am on the throne. I started dubbing in stupid commentary and nonsense to fill in or replace the idiocy of that entire sequence.

"OMG, the Mako physics are back to kill us all!"
"Normandy. This changes nothing. The player is still doomed."
"Your destruction has become... dated."
"OMG, it's a pop up!"

Or Shepard with the Catalyst choosing destroy

"Even you are partly synthetic."
"So... I'm suppose to kill myself?"
"Hey, I'm willing to be suicidal here. Stop being selfish. ****."

And other nonsense. It's my own fun to play the endings for the jokes they are.

Me three. I get as far as reaching for the disk, and that's it. Of course I'm on Xbox, so I would have to turn it off at priority earth and watch the MEHEM ending on Youtube with the default Shep. Luckily I haven't gotten to Dragonborn yet, and by the time I finish that, we should know what's in the next DLC. My money will either go there, with Bioware forgiven if not forgotten, or I'll wait until the DLC for Dishonored is out. The irony is, Bioware is pushing away the players who would have picked up a copy for the PC and one or more consoles to go after the CoD crowd.

I do have a PC copy but I merely use if for screwing with the coalesced file, I have always played on Xbox (can't use a mouse or keyboard to save my life) ultimately my connection to ME is on Xbox and its just not there on PC for me I suspect the same would be true of someone in the opposite position.

What saddens me about this most is that we are all even having this conversation. What should be happening is I should be running around informing people that mass effect is the best thing since sliced bread.

You know, ME3 is not a bad story. For the most part I enjoyed it.

I recommend playing through and ending at 'best seats in the house'. That seems to be the best place to end the story, right there. Mission accomplished.

Oh, I've been done with the game since The Extended Cut, but I just can't seem to get away from the discussion.  It's just so amusing!!

the catalysts logic is still as screwed up as ever, the writing is as poor as it was before (efficitively telling me to disregard the entire series before so that i can make way for ERMAGERD GREEN LAZORS).

each of the endings violate one of the fundamental core themes of the series.

control; basically the freedom you fought for? nah dont matter now you're space reaper lord supreme. the right for civilization to choose its own path? nah just scare em with reapers if they don't do as they're told.

destroy: you fought for a civilization, that relys on the relays for travel, the codex sums it up "without them galactic civilization as we know it wouldn't exist". oh and you've just killed the geth (if you saved them or made peace) and edi, both of whom are examples which blow huge holes in the catalysts logic.

and as for synthesis;

it basically says "organics arent perfect so lets force perfection on them, tech = peace (step 4 profit?) and everyones happy". so what happens when the culture stagnates? is the galaxy just going to vegatate?

and not only that you built an alliance of diverse races and the game is specific that that diversity is extremely important in helping galatic civilisation overcome its obstacles.

dont matter now you've gene r*ped the entire galaxy so that everyone is the same now kthnxby.

and on a higher narrative level? it kills the entire universe; no advancement, no conflicts = no future for MEU.

and to top all of these options off each one is a tasty form of suicide. the breath scene is nothing but an easter egg (like halo legendary endings (except they actually continued)).

refuse? well sh*t we all died, goodbye.

at the end.....

"would you like another story?"

if thats how it will always end?... NO.

and all this doesnt even cover a 10th of my problems with the ending.

i fail to see how any dlc which doesn't adress the ending in some capacity can ensure a good future for the series which has been my all time favorite.

yes im quite mad.

bioware, i didnt ask for this, i doubt anyone asked for this, we asked for everything but this.

i'd be sad to see the end of shepard's journey in any event but i would want it to be a good, heartwarming and beautifull send off.... but not.... this...

You've pretty much said what I feel.

And it makes things even worse that even now Bioware can't seem to understand this.  Doesnt' seem to get how many fans they've alienated.

Fortunately, MEHEM is the ending I wish came with the actual game.

Well, to be honest the geth & EDI don't even prove him wrong either. To me EDI & the geth (from how he phrases it) are both examples (EDI turns on cerberus/Geth fight the qurians even though they started it and almost destroy the race). His view is on years of information we do not have so we can not say he is right or wrong. That one is a personal thing. It still brings comfort to believe that the geth can be remade. The only downside is that a team of very good soldiers you knew died due to circumstances. You can get new soldiers, whom are of the same race and possibly close to better skills, but the friends you knew personally are gone. A downside, yes, but it's a little easier (though still sad) to swallow for those who might have a bleak look at it.

Synthesis is stupid, I can agree. Personally never liked it because it wasn't truly hinted at (Like destroy & Control was).

Honestly the only thing that still bugs me are these things:
No explanation of the lack of intervention from the catalyst in ME1.
No references (that I know of) for synthesis.

Extended cut added a lot of information in terms of how things worked, what is his goals, etc. plus some changes from HUGE problems (Mass relays exploding) to small ones (How shepard's crew got on the normandy).
Leviathan added more reason to his creation and a look at why the reapers have the outer shell they do.

Hopefully the new DLC fixes the two problems I have and that it fixes (without changing the endings, since it sounds like they will not do it for those who might want such a thing) the problems you are concerned with.

Funny, my group of friends have a disinterest in the game Elder Scrolls Skyrim. Some call it a dissapointment, some just don't like the game. Though I don't see them calling out the company. What's wrong with just a simple "I dislike your game and I will make no more future purchases until I see a product of interest."?

I enjoyed Skyrim, but even though id like to find an alternate RPG that i can immerse myself in, it just doesn't fill the void like the ME games.
