I want a combat like in Mass Effect games. Where you are in complete control of your character and his every swing. And you are just commanding your party, instead of assuming direct control over them.

Yup Yup

And now you two want to change all other games to your personal taste?
Sim City perhaps?  Civ? Twitch combat squad games?

DA was supposed to be a party based RPG from the start. Bioware didn't break that genre's combat form, for even their consolish and childish jRPG offspring, DA2. And no, I don't like the twitch combat in TW2 or ES either.

Most games have twitch combat these days. It makes for very little variation in videogames, and vastly narrows the potential market as well as limits new recruiting to videogaming.

And now you two want even less variation?

No thanks! There was way too much ME in DA2 already. No Mass effect, no Twitch combat.

(think I'll go over to the ME forum and start lobbying for combat to change to a BG/IWD scheme).

games need combat to be interesting.

False. See, for example, The Secret of Monkey Island.\\

Secret of Monkey Island had combat in it, and it was also a puzzle game. Apples to oranges mate.

Combat is a necessity

False. See, for example, Simcity.

Simcity isn't an RPG, apples to oranges again. Learn to find relevant examples.

You said games. I cited games. Perhaps next time you should word your arguments better.

Combat in DA 2 looked and felt terrible. If you pick stuff like " jrpg" " ps2" " childish" "mtv" on your Bingo sheet, you just might win the turkey on a thread where people are describing their impressions on DA 2 combat. This is well justified. In DA 2 combat, people were too busy trying to look cool to actually fight. It is combat from PS2 era MTV exclusive music video for a bad song about RPGs.

There are three or four things in DA 2 that make me think " I have grown  too old to enjoy video games. " whenever I tried to play it. Way everything looks when combat begins is one of these things. It is a very unpleasant, inaccurate and childish thing to feel. And I blame DA 2 for it. Stop making me feel this way DA2 you ****!!D:

So yeah, all kinds of reversals, retcons and erasures of anything to do with DA2 makes a good point of departure when working a combat for DA3.  DA2's combat mostly fails due to surface painting and overall lack of taste by people designing how everything looks, flows and works.  That is not to say it had anything very good going on underneath the hood either.

Having to design combat of medieval party based RPG with a goddamned pad in mind must be a very diffiucult task. Two outcomes are most likely and obvious here:
A) Either you make a good system that is not fun to operate on consoles.
B)You make a bad system that is about as lame to operate on both consoles and PC.

...Also can you please stop using Sim City as an example on thread discussing combat in RPGs  I mean,  fükksakesakelol.

Oh chill, I was just agreeing it is my favorite combat. I'm perfectly ok with the DA2 combat, fast enough for me, strategic and pause-y enough for you slow pokes :P

WoW average gamer age is late 20s.

When you get past 30 like me, you stop caring if things look childish or gay or this or that. You do what you like and F**k the rest of the world :P

I can imagine a fun RPG based purely on first-person sneaker (like Thief) mechanics.

Why is combat mandatory?
