Wow... Dragon Age Origins is still a great game

I'm still at a loss as to why they couldn't build on the success of this game with DA2. While I don't hate the sequel per se, it was still a huge step down in many respects (aside from Hawke's companions, who are great), from the repetitive gameplay to the utterly drab locale that is Kirkwall.
I really hope Inquisition is a return to form for Bioware, because playing through DA:O again has me wanting a truly great sequel to it.

Hopefully my assumption is wrong and I'm gladly surprised when BioWare starts giving out concrete information and ingame footage.

DAO's story is great, the companions are wonderful and the areas are varied, but the Warden's stone-faced reactions to everything going on around him drain the drama out of a scene. I feel a connection to my main guy, but every other attempt I've made at creating another Warden has been a wooden puppet that I quickly discard. I couldn't even tell you their names.
In combat, I'll rush ahead with my main guy and then realize my party members are hanging back like doofuses way back on the map. When I open the menu to direct the movement, I'll remember that, whoops, DAO doesn't have this feature.
I'll grind my teeth every time I use Taunt and realize it hasn't done s**t, or whenever I'll want to use a poison in combat and discover with irritation that I've forgotten the poisons in the first game only last like 30 seconds. And only the rogues can actually use them.

I've just been replaying the through the game again with my main character, and I'm struck by the sheer detail the devs put into building this world, and how fun the gameplay is. The characters and their interactions with you can be both hilarious and sometimes moving, and while the story isn't as good Bioware's other rpg's, it's still a top notch yarn.

Yep, Origins aged pretty well imo. I replay it way more often than DA II. But form the little confirmed information that was provided til now I would say, and that's a bummer, don't expect DA III taking more from Origins than from DA II, it seems to be the opposite.
Hopefully my assumption is wrong and I'm gladly surprised when BioWare starts giving out concrete information and ingame footage.
I'm amazed there are people who manage to (re)play DA II. Is this something you get paid money from? Some study in name of greater good? Why would you want to do such thing?
DA:O is indeed awesome. It is one of those games that really don't show their age in any relevant negative fashion.

Uh, me? I replay DA2 on occasion, flawed as it is. Like I said, the great characters make it worthwhile experience despite the sub par gameplay.LTD wrote...

I barely finished DA2 - and I dread doing another playthrough (opinion - for those easily annoyed/insulted)

I'm amazed some people don't understand that not everyone thinks/feels the same. DA2 is far from being perfect, but it had some good qualities and in some cases (combat) one could argue it's better than Origins.

I don't think I will ever get sick of it, I'm replaying it as of right now again, I'm playing Awakening now, after reading The Calling I think I'll understand Awakening and the Architect a lot more.
I think it surpasses DA2 in almost every aspect, I do love DA2 a lot as well but DAO is my all time favourite. Thanks Bioware!

Everybody but Shale and Dog can use poisons, I always learn that skill for my warrior/mage companions. And you can appoint them through tactics. So what's the problem?Face of Evil wrote... If there was a way to have multiple race starts with the same voice overs (female and male) you know that would be just about perfect!
That said DA2 isn't a bad game it just wasn't the same as Origins at all. I really enjoy DA2 but in a very different way then DAO, I have also replayed DAO more then DA2 so far. I think dev resources and time may have been a factor that really hurt DA2. So here's hoping that 3 gets all the time it needs to be awesome.

I was going to say the same thing. You only need to invest one skill point in the poison tree to be able to use bombs and poisons.

I find DA:O incredibly boring. That's just my opinion, and I respect people who really love it and continue to play it. And I think it was an amazing game, yes, and all credit to the BW, obviously. But I can't replay DA:O; it just doesn't do it for me after the first and second playthrough. I'm bored.
I enjoy DA2 and have played it 10+ times. Various elements came together to make this so. Big deal though. So I liked it more than this person, and that person liked that game more than me.
There's just nothing more to say. This topic should be closed!
