I've just been replaying the through the game again with my main character, and I'm struck by the sheer detail the devs put into building this world, and how fun the gameplay is. The characters and their interactions with you can be both hilarious and sometimes moving, and while the story isn't as good Bioware's other rpg's, it's still a top notch yarn.

I'm still at a loss as to why they couldn't build on the success of this game with DA2. While I don't hate the sequel per se, it was still a huge step down in many respects (aside from Hawke's companions, who are great), from the repetitive gameplay to the utterly drab locale that is Kirkwall.

I really hope Inquisition is a return to form for Bioware, because playing through DA:O  again has me wanting a truly great sequel to it.

Yep, Origins aged pretty well imo. I replay it way more often than DA II. But form the little confirmed information that was provided til now I would say, and that's a bummer, don't expect DA III taking more from Origins than from DA II, it seems to be the opposite.

Hopefully my assumption is wrong and I'm gladly surprised when BioWare starts giving out concrete information and ingame footage.

For me, trips back to DAO always feel like a step backward. DA2 was far from a perfect game, but I still think it made many improvements on the original.

DAO's story is great, the companions are wonderful and the areas are varied, but the Warden's stone-faced reactions to everything going on around him drain the drama out of a scene. I feel a connection to my main guy, but every other attempt I've made at creating another Warden has been a wooden puppet that I quickly discard. I couldn't even tell you their names.

In combat, I'll rush ahead with my main guy and then realize my party members are hanging back like doofuses way back on the map. When I open the menu to direct the movement, I'll remember that, whoops, DAO doesn't have this feature.

I'll grind my teeth every time I use Taunt and realize it hasn't done s**t, or whenever I'll want to use a poison in combat and discover with irritation that I've forgotten the poisons in the first game only last like 30 seconds. And only the rogues can actually use them.

You're absolutely right, horacethegray :)  Origins is an awesome game...I'll always be grateful to Bioware for making it.  Its story, and DA's lore, gave me something I didn't even realize I wanted, and has encouraged me to write, draw and keep dreaming :)

For me, that's a given, its definitely going to be one of those games people will return to years later and still find enjoyable, especially on PC with the toolset. And while I'd be very surprised if Inquisition plays like Dragon Age: Origins: The Direct Sequel, I really do hope that more elements of gameplay from DA:O are brought back.

Wow do I miss spell combos and friendly fire on normal. Sigh.

Well, it's not gonna change, is it? xD Of course it's a great game, always will be. Just like BG, BG2, KOTOR etc...

I'm amazed there are people who manage to (re)play DA II. Is this something you get paid money from? Some study in name of greater good? Why would you want to do such thing?

DA:O is indeed awesome. It is one of those games that really don't show their age in any relevant negative fashion.

Uh, me? I replay DA2 on occasion, flawed as it is. Like I said, the great characters make it worthwhile experience despite the sub par gameplay.

I've only ever replayed one single player crpg campaign - DA:O.

I barely finished DA2 - and I dread doing another playthrough (opinion - for those easily annoyed/insulted)

I'm amazed some people don't understand that not everyone thinks/feels the same. DA2 is far from being perfect, but it had some good qualities and in some cases (combat) one could argue it's better than Origins.

Dragon Age Origins is my most favourite game that I have ever played in my entire life. Yes, that drastic.

I don't think I will ever get sick of it, I'm replaying it as of right now again, I'm playing Awakening now, after reading The Calling I think I'll understand Awakening and the Architect a lot more.

I think it surpasses DA2 in almost every aspect, I do love DA2 a lot as well but DAO is my all time favourite. Thanks Bioware!

i cant play origins anymore. Played through it about 5 times and after just couldnt bear the will to go past ostagar. DA2 on the other hand, I have played through about 9 times. Gameplay is what ultimately makes me play a game and DA2 feels better to me in that regard.

Everybody but Shale and Dog can use poisons, I always learn that skill for my warrior/mage companions. And you can appoint them through tactics. So what's the  problem?

I think DAO is actually one of Bioware's finest games ever. Everything was very solid and it had that classic RPG feel. It may be the last great classic even, since now we MUST have full voiced over cast and a main character with a voice and emotion and so forth. I sort of wish they would have kept that out of the series but I guess this is what they are going for.

If there was a way to have multiple race starts with the same voice overs (female and male) you know that would be just about perfect!

That said DA2 isn't a bad game it just wasn't the same as Origins at all. I really enjoy DA2 but in a very different way then DAO, I have also replayed DAO more then DA2 so far. I think dev resources and time may have been a factor that really hurt DA2. So here's hoping that 3 gets all the time it needs to be awesome.

I was going to say the same thing. You only need to invest one skill point in the poison tree to be able to use bombs and poisons.

Right, Origins is really a masterpiece. I've been through this like 15 times or so, and will probably do a couple more playthroughs before I die. I prefer it's gameplay to DA2, which I have played 9 times as of now. Here's to Origins, and hoping for an even better Inquisition.

It's... okay. Race options are nice, and the plot is somewhat better, but aside from that, I enjoyed everything DA2 did more. It's certainly a game that feels far more fun to play and battle in (though I'm not terribly fond of combat in general, so that might have something to do with it).

Dragon Age Origins it's what Mass Effect has never become. In just one game we have 6 different Origins and even more Conclusions. That's a non-linear RPG, not like Mass Effect 3 or DA 2 which are one-direction games with no real decisions behind. I won't want DA 3 to become a superficial game with no real impact of dialogues... I want DA 3 to return to Origins/Awakening style which was just perfect in its way. And I am sure I am not just talking for me but the most part of fans out there. I hope someone in DA team also thinks this way and is making his moves to do recover the RPG sense-component. Otherwise, the franchise is lost.

I love DAO..playing anything but a melee class. That shuffle-shuffle-whack is just painful. So is the Warden gaping like a fish at any moment that's supposed to be emotional.

Got to be honest, the more I play the game, the more I release how limiting the gameplay is.
It's still a great game, but I really hope Bioware improves on it for Dragon Age 3.

I`d say its on par with the first Kotor game. Easily a classic, despite some shortcomings.

Oh hi, OP, you must be new here .... LOOK it's ANOTHER DA2 hate thread! Yet again cleverly disguised as a DA:O worship thread.

 I shouldn't even be replying. But I can't help it. Not only does this have nothing to do with DA3, but it's just an opinion. So you guys really liked a game; that's great! But then you go and make fun of people who liked its sequel and laugh and pat each other on the back for playing the first game ten times because it's just so epic and awesome.

I find DA:O incredibly boring. That's just my opinion, and I respect people who really love it and continue to play it. And I think it was an amazing game, yes, and all credit to the BW, obviously. But I can't replay DA:O; it just doesn't do it for me after the first and second playthrough. I'm bored.

I enjoy DA2 and have played it 10+ times. Various elements came together to make this so. Big deal though. So I liked it more than this person, and that person liked that game more than me.

There's just nothing more to say. This topic should be closed!
