Oh hi, OP, you must be new here .... LOOK it's ANOTHER DA2 hate thread! Yet again cleverly disguised as a DA:O worship thread.

 I shouldn't even be replying. But I can't help it. Not only does this have nothing to do with DA3, but it's just an opinion. So you guys really liked a game; that's great! But then you go and make fun of people who liked its sequel and laugh and pat each other on the back for playing the first game ten times because it's just so epic and awesome.

I find DA:O incredibly boring. That's just my opinion, and I respect people who really love it and continue to play it. And I think it was an amazing game, yes, and all credit to the BW, obviously. But I can't replay DA:O; it just doesn't do it for me after the first and second playthrough. I'm bored.

I enjoy DA2 and have played it 10+ times. Various elements came together to make this so. Big deal though. So I liked it more than this person, and that person liked that game more than me.

There's just nothing more to say. This topic should be closed!

People start threads about nearly everything, so when you aren't interested in "posters patting each other on the back because they like Origins more than DA II", then adhere to your first feeling and simply don't post. It's just the start to another battle.
I'm not interested in romances in games, but I don't chime in the various romance threads and leave a "what is just wrong with you people?" to start a war.

I've just been replaying the through the game again with my main character, and I'm struck by the sheer detail the devs put into building this world, and how fun the gameplay is. The characters and their interactions with you can be both hilarious and sometimes moving, and while the story isn't as good Bioware's other rpg's, it's still a top notch yarn.

Origins is an amazing game. I had a lot of fun with my Surana Warden.

I'm still at a loss as to why they couldn't build on the success of this game with DA2. While I don't hate the sequel per se, it was still a huge step down in many respects (aside from Hawke's companions, who are great), from the repetitive gameplay to the utterly drab locale that is Kirkwall.

I agree, Hawke's companions were great. I especially liked Merrill.

I really hope Inquisition is a return to form for Bioware, because playing through DA:O  again has me wanting a truly great sequel to it.

Most of the information released about Inquisition seems to indicate it'll follow Dragon Age II, rather than Origins.

\\Everybody but Shale and Dog can use poisons, I always learn that skill for my warrior/mage companions. And you can appoint them through tactics. So what's the problem?

But they don't get the ability by default, and I don't want to waste an early skill point.

And that reminds me: the skill system in DAO sucked balls.

That's a great point, and I think you're probably right. Just to be fair to the romance threads, though, they are actually about DA3, whereas this one isn't. Although you could say the point of the thread is to hope that DA3 is just like DA:O, even if that isn't explicitly stated. But even so, there are dozens of similar threads, making this one redundant, even if tangentially on-topic.

I gave DA2 a 7/10 and a 7.5 with the addition of the DLC.   It was a good game but it would have been a GREAT game had it not been rushed.

By the way, you have read the developers have acknowledged mistakes with DA2 haven't you?

I would not expect DA3 to be like DA2.  Its not going to be the same.

Origins fans should not expect it to be like that either.

Developers have stated they are taking what worked in both games for the next game so I would expect it like that.

Oh, horancethegrey has been around quite some time in the off-topic section. He's a Dr.Who Fan, right?

While I give Origins a 9 out of 10 and DA2 about a 7, I still think DA2 a good to great game.

For me, trips back to DAO always feel like a step backward. DA2 was far from a perfect game, but I still think it made many improvements on the original.

DAO's story is great, the companions are wonderful and the areas are varied, but the Warden's stone-faced reactions to everything going on around him drain the drama out of a scene. I feel a connection to my main guy, but every other attempt I've made at creating another Warden has been a wooden puppet that I quickly discard. I couldn't even tell you their names.

I agree with this.

Excuse me? Didn't I say that I say before that I actually like DA2? Warts and all? Why the hell are you lumping me with the DA2 haters? Or are you just sore that I don't share your opinion?

For the record, I started this thread in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, people can look back at the amazing game that started this franchise. Origins is a great rpg. And it's my hope that Bioware builds on that game's successes, rather than the failures of DA2, while they're making Inquisition.

Why not build on the successes of DA2 while incoporating as many of those of DAO as possible?

Because DA2 wasnt really a successes? Wasnt it the worst game sold made by Bioware and they did even skip the Addon for that game?

It is still a great game the fade level still annoys me and spoils a otherwise perfect game (along with the combat)

I replayed DAO well over 50 times and it always felt new to me and thats not including all the characters I started and never finished. I had it for 2 years on xbox before I bought a PC version and modded the heck out of it. I still enjoy going back once and a while and creating a character and playing up to Lotherring.

For me the combat is what stops me from going back I really do hate it.

That being said I enjoyed the combat of DA2 but only replayed that game 6 times and have no desire to replay it. It bores me and while the companions are okay I hate having to go to their house to talk to them. Thats boring and nothing like real life, why can't a significant conversation take place in a bar or a back alley or after a fight as in DAO, to me the lack of menaingful NPC interaction in DA2 really ruined much of its replayability.

And the recycled environments.

I'm amazed some people don't understand that not everyone thinks/feels the same. DA2 is far from being perfect, but it had some good qualities and in some cases (combat) one could argue it's better than Origins.

I personally I have no problem with people liking DA2. But ironically, I'd say that the combat was one of (many) features that I enjoyed a lot less than in DA:O - although I can completely get why other people felt it was a vast improvement. ;)

Dragon Age Origins is my most favourite game that I have ever played in my entire life. Yes, that drastic.

For a scarily long time, Knights of the Old Republic was that game for me. Absolutely loved it to bits - fantastic story, fantastic idea, fantastic use of the Star Wars IP.

Then DA:O blew it entirely out of the water.

DA2? Meh. Sign me up for the 'haters' camp. Its probably the closest label you can apply to my overall opinion of it. ;)

i cant play origins anymore. Played through it about 5 times and after just couldnt bear the will to go past ostagar. DA2 on the other hand, I have played through about 9 times. Gameplay is what ultimately makes me play a game and DA2 feels better to me in that regard.

Same here, combat is too slow and the game is way too long. I usually load an old save before Alistair gives me a rose or one of my ending saves and replay just a tiny bit, if I miss it but gaaaahh combat is almost umplayable so I drop it.

I still play Awakenings sometimes, combat is a lot better if only because you can get so OP as to make combat unnecessary (battle shout kills all  )

I have played DA2 over 10 times and still play it now and then. It is my favorite of the 2 games.

PS: As proof of gamers being different, one of the parts I loved on DAO was the shape shifting and puzzles on the fade :D

I think the characters are great. Everything else works well enough, but that's about it.

+ Great characters with lots of dialogue.
- Slow and tedious combat.
- Boring art style.
- Poor graphics and animations.
- Faily generic storyline.
- Linear level design with little exploration.

In the end we have a game that excells in one area and only that one area. It seems like the people in a creative position sat in a room with each other and by the end of the meeting, all they could come up with was " **** it, let's just copy Tolkein."

Now, it would be one thing if Dragon Age did Tolkein better than Tolkein, but doesn't. So, what we have is a farily generic fantasy setting that happens to have great characters. I give Bioware an "A" for effort there. Great character design with top notch voice acting is pretty much their resume. That's all well and good, but let's not pretend that this game is anything other than a LoTR copy cat.

DA 2 is an improvement to DA:O in same way Rambo II is a step onwards from First Blood and Terminators 3&4 next grand step of evolution away from first two Terminator flicks.

Yeah just got done going through it, awakening, and witch hunt. Have to say after finishing that much content of this game I felt a bit sad when I started up DA2. DA2 isn't a bad game, but it's missing the charm Origins have. I really want more out of my warden. That being said, do anyone have any recommendations on any of the other Origin DLC I should checkout?

Who knows? People have reasons why they hate or love this or that.  The problem is that people have a tendency to state opinion as if it were fact.

Person 1: This game was terrible because it contained this, this, and this.
Person 2: But ... those are the things I liked best about the game!
Person 3: You're obviously a moron with no taste.

Ad infinitum!

This is just a topic that's been talked to death.

I wish Origins wouldn't dump all it's files in my RAM, and I also wish the save files wouldn't clog up my Windows partition(I partitioned my hard drive for a reason Bioware >.<). But other than that, Origins is ok.

I've encountered "Person 3" a number of times when brining up legitimate criticism of the Witcher games.

It sure is an amazing game. I loaded DAO up this week again and I thought it really does stand the test of time. I'm really hopeful that DAI will capture that magic and that I'll still be talking years later about how much I enjoyed the stories and characters. Bioware's made some of my favourite games, ones that I could lose myself in and never forget and I think there's every chance DAI could be another (fingers crossed!)
