It's a banner that has haunting me for a while. I'm always nervous whenever I enter a lobby and see a player with "Best of the Best" banner... Those people have done just about everything there is to do in multiplayer. Heh...I on the other hand have yet to even solo Silver...

I look at that banner and sometimes it feels like those players who use it are laughing at me in the background. When they see my N7 Rating of 1719, Challenge Points of 7850, and "Hero of the Last Days" banner (favorite banner btw) it feels like they're saying "Awww, look at the little one trying to rise up! You'll never be as good as me! Hahahahah!". It may be all an exaggeration, but this is how I feel... It feels like I'm being mocked by those players, and it hurts!
 I suppose it's natural for them to feel this way though if they did, to feel this way towards players using HotLD banner, the average amount of players that use HotLD aren't known to be that good at the game. Granted, it was also one of the easiest banners to obtain when the event was out. But I'm using it because its the only one that I actually like. Before it existed there was no other banner I wanted on my profile, and I didn't have a banner on by choice. The instant I saw HotLD though after completing Operation Prophecy I fell in love. That banner was applied and I never took it off since. But now, there is one more banner that has caught my attention, it's a new banner that I would even give up my HotLD for. An interesting twist too as you'll soon understand, but anyway, that new banner is FemShep's "Best of the Best". Funny isn't it? But it's a banner out of my reach thanks to "Squad Elite" and "Solo Mastery".

This problem goes beyond simple jealously. In fact, I don't even think it is jealously. I'm not upset when I see someone with Best of the Best & knowing that it isn't one I have. And the banner by itself also isn't what is causing my insecurity. It's seeing other people with the banner combined with knowing that you have to have a high skill level to obtain it. That means all of those people I saw with Best of the Best have a high skill level! Inside, I should be happy whenever I team up with someone on multiplayer who has Best of the Best banner because it also means teaming up with an ally that's really strong... but I'm not. I should have the feeling of comfort that everyone always wants in a teammate, to play with someone that knows what they're doing in the game.... but I don't. This is what has been haunting me since I found out about Best of the Best banner. I get tortured mentally and I'm unsure as to what I'm supposed to do...

(My first encounter with a Best of the Best player was in a Gold session. They voted a kick on me for using a level 10 character. Everyone else was level 20.  No one else agreed to the kick thoug, so that player just left. It showed that they were the one who voted the kick... Every other time after that which involved me encountering one of those players would always end in either them coming in the session & leaving immediately for an unknown reason,  or me entering their session only to walk out before game start because of my insecurity. I have never been in a live game with someone who uses Best of the Best. But if I did then I'm sure my performance would be affected more negative than positive with the lack of morale.)

I don't want to feel this way... I don't want to feel like everyone who has high accomplishments will look down on me for having so little. It's a painful heartache that shouldn't hurt, and I shouldn't care about what other people think. Yet, it's still there. Is it normal to feel this way? What is it that's causing me to feel like this? And how do I stop it?

Well, I just have to say:
Although Best of the Best players are really good most of the time, I have seen some awful players as well.
Whoever feels superior because of having a certain banner needs to have his brain rewired imo.

OK its real easy. Lets look at what makes the BotB banner:
Nomad: No extractions needed. You can grind waves out to get this one. Wow.
Lone Wolf: You can have someone else do it, use a team to do it and in the last wave, everyone leaves and forces a wave restart, or missile glitch
Everything else is a grind.....
If you are daunted over a worthless, meaningless banner than seek psychiatric help.

o dam. don't feel so bad. I'm on my slow arse progression to obtaining this Banner. It's not fun! Take a chill pill and just work on getting better. If people seem too high on their high horse, then kick their horse's shin!

Same here. I wish I'd had played some council races and not spammed Geth for a couple of months.

The players themselves? They're a mixed bag. Usually I just don't give a rats arse and do whatever I want.

End up stepping on a lot of toes in PUGs due to this. Haven't met an obnoxious one though. They've been nice people at least.

OP, most players with BotB banners are anything but. Yes, some of them are great players, but for the most part, nothing to write home about. And truly great players won't look down on your challenge points, or your guns, or your banners, because they know that all that really matters is that you try your best in any given match.

That being said, I know what you're talking about. Just soldier on, and you'll eventually be less bothered with how you look in front of strangers. Hopefully.

You should not feel embarassed/intimidated when you encounter one.

From the third to the sixth week after Retaliation release, the banner meant something, since you needed 25 extractions on Platinum (Squad Elite banner without Week-end Challenges II and III).

Now, you only need to find a good lobby to carry you on gold for all those waves for the nomad banner, then play two gold solo with a Kroguard against Geths. Not a big deal.

I have had the BOTB banner for some time however I did not use it in random games for a few reasons, I was concerned it sent the wrong message,,,,I didn't want people to think I am a better than you player, that was my number one concern, from my side I was concerned if I wear this banner is someone in this random lobby going to simply leech to see what I can do.

When Femship came out, I decided tp hell with it, I owe a lot to the female kits in this game, I am Proud of Bryan at BioWare for making this happen, on his own time no less, that is dedication to fans and the game, I don't really care what randome may think or how they may act, I have always said I will play with anyone at least once and I do.

There are many that I run into sporting this banner and I do wonder how they obtained it, there are glitches that allow some to get Lone Wolf for example by being able to simply solo one wave, however that is not my problem, I worked for mine, I did it by the book and will soon have it completed for a second time.

I have said I mainly play with friends and that is true, however I started doing at least three gold pugs a day in January, my goal was to simply help players out as most pugs need help in many ways, I have made quite a few friends this way, showed them the ropes, introduced them to BSN and players from BSN, the goal was to help inprove the quality of their game experience, it doesn't always work but I do keep at it.

I have also run into a tremendous amount of BSN posters and lurkers, added some of them also if they wish.

Now in a gold lobby do I look down on a random, no I do not. People who run with me will tell you even when we bring in a random that has a setup that I feel will not cut it, I do not kick, we will in a kind way make suggestions over the mic but they are not obligated to change anything.

I believe the majority of randoms have their heart in the right place, so any little thing I can do, I will at least try.

This is the internet, we will run into all kinds.....take the negative ones with a grain of salt and hold your chin high.

i am pretty boss at the game but i don't have the best of the best banner, because i don't actually like it

i wear the Operator banner until a proper Asari commando or Adept banner is released

Really? You can do that? I always thought you had to solo it from wave 1 all the way to the end. Seriously???
