You have no heart.

ME3 has the saddest moments.

Mordin, Tali, Legion, Miranda... and the list goes on.

Which is counterbalanced by a LOT of stupid.

Thane: Why am I not helping?
Legion: Copy and paste!
Miranda: How does Alliance assets stop the Space Ninja?

There ARE gems, but there's a lot of crud that comes with it.

Lately, Academagia has been intersting, looking forward to year 2. But it's not a Mass effect category of game. It's not a game with voice actors and lots of flashy graphics and movie sequences.
It's more like a novel with story text, a codex like thing(which could be more user friendly but still nice) Where you can make choices, make "firends go on adventures, send your character to study for better grades. Enjoy the story. It's kind of like a Fantasy RPG novel in a slightly harry potter like setting even if it's very different from that.
Probably too long a description..

I've played the AC series mentioned, but I've not gotten involved on the forums.
I've played Dragon age Origins and DA2 from release, but I havn't visited the forums much, I did visit them at one point or another though. But it was a very limited exposure and after the endign of DA2 I didn't visit it again until a month or so ago with all the talk about the next DA game.
DA2 wasn't crap but it left for more to be desired, and the ending feelt railroaded and uninspired and simplified.

Over the years I've played a lot of games, shooters, RPGs, Galdurs gate, NWN, NWN2.. Actualy I loved the neverwiter nights seried and the Baldurs gate series.
I loved BG2, Throne of Bhaal was good but it could have been even more.
The expansions to NWN2 feelt somewhat less inspired.

Actualy I could probably write 200 pags on games I've played in my life since the 80's. The onyl type of game that never interested me was Sports games since it feelt to uninspired and not special enough.
If a real life ball is uninteresting and boring, one can only immagine how boring a "virtual" ball or chase the "virtual" ball, game would be like...

No other game I think, maybe The Walking Dead by Telltale (also the comics and TV show) but in terms of TV I have been as emotionally invested in Lost as I have Mass Effect.

I play lots of games from very different genres and most of them have been great games. But to be honest, Mass Effect is probably the only one I am very attached too. The Witcher series would be my next choice.

I personally can't name one that I've replayed/cared about more.

Just look at my avatar for the answer.

By the way, a movie version of DE:HR is in the works and it is being done by a guy who has actually played the game multiple times. They see it as in the same line as "Bladerunner" which is VERY good news indeed.

Meh. I loved the series enough BUT they are just too short, especially recently with too much focus on the MP aspect of the game.  It sucks effort out of the SP part of the game.  But your declaration reminded me of another GREAT series of similar type: Ghost Recon.  Outstanding visuals, pretty good squad action and control (in some ways better than ME's squad controls).  The squadies in Ghost Recon FOLLOW ORDERS and never just stand out in the open shooting at bad guys while getting chewed to shreds by bad guys.

Oh, and MOST of all: the Half-Life series.  Damned excellent.

Fallout 3 comes close - I'm relatively new to the more sophisticated forms of PC gaming, and it was the first game where the characters, setting, and story really fell into place for me. The other games I had tried after getting a better computer were either too linear and made me play a predetermined character (Lost: Via Domus, COD:MW, Bioshock) or had a setting that just left me cold (Oblivion).

In retrospect, I'm not sure if it really holds up to ME, as the newness of it may have been part of what made it so impressive at first. While I do still play it (and New Vegas) from time to time, I don't think I've invested as much time in either of them as I have in the ME trilogy.

Baldur's Gate.
For being emotionally attached. First game that did romances well and had one of the most fulfilling romances (Viconia good path) to date in any game.

Planescape :Torment
For one of the most engaging stories in any game ever.

For TV series: Game of Thrones, The Newsroom, The Walking Dead, Firefly, LOST, Spartacus, True Blood, Dexter

As for games, ME and DA were the ones that held my interest, and were a huge emotional investment for me.

Until DA2 knocked that one out of the running. I'm hopeful that I'll get that loving feeling back with DAI, but I'm not holding my breath.

ME3, just, ugh. I've had to divorce any memories I have of that series from my psyche, and it had nothing to do with the rotten ending in ME3. The whole game reeked of missed opportunities and lazy writing. IMHO. I just didn't even enjoy going through the motions. Don't get me started on what they did with squaddies from ME2. Or even that whole plotline.

So what's left in their wake? Lost Odyssey, Valkyria Chronicles, Elder Scrolls, Borderlands, Tales of Vesperia...I'm sure there are more.

:crying: I'm waiting for that day. So many great games I missed out being a PC elitist. Also agree with DEHR. Great game, can't praise it enough. I've played through it 7 times and still not bored of it. It has that certain something that keeps pulling you back, y'know? The mood, the music, the settings.. everything gels togather perfectly.

On the bright side, ME 3 almost did away with all role playing aspects of the game and replaced it with autopilot dialog.  You could go eat lunch, go to the bathroom, get a cup of coffee, etc, while the dialog simply ran its preset course.  That has to count for SOMETHING doesn't it?

OK, no, it counts for feces and is part of the many flaws of ME3.
