Did you let him go, or kill him?
Me? I shot him and slowly let him bleed to death. Heck, if he can pull a stunt like aiming a meterorite at a heavily populated planet, then he deserves a slow death, surrounded by the corpses of the people he killed.
So, how did you deal with Balak?

I wasn't a fan of letting him go after everything he had done, but I decided that saving the hostages was more important, and on the plus side he can't stay on the run forever.

Letting the hostages die to kill him was an easy choice.

Take him prisoner. My Shep has... issues with Batarian slaver/terrorists.

I killed him as I let him go unharmed to bleed to death ;-) I can't be the only one who's played this every way.

My "canon" Paragon playthrough kinda sorta forgot to do the DLC mission and so let him drop the asteroid, kill everyone, and get away scot-free. Whoops!
My Paragade reasoned that Balak could easily kill more than three people and so let the hostages die. Similarly, she tried to hand him over to the Alliance. After all, that intel could save lives, and she hadn't just gone after Balak for the sole thrill of shooting him the head; she just wanted to make sure that he didn't do any more killing stuff.
Of course, metagaming, Balak does seemingly nothing in between ME1 and ME3, and I think he turns up anyway if he isn't shot, but isn't it always nice to do a little bit of roleplaying?

Does the asteroid actually go through and kill them all if you don't do that mission?
I've never intentionally not completed it.
