I liked the story for the most part. I just don't think there is enough variation within the game itself to justify its length. I believe I stopped at the Gran Pulse chapter. I will return to it eventually but I just lost interest.
Though I did really like Sazh and never had a problem with Lightning.

I really find it annoying how people don't like things that are different to what they are used to. It's hard not to think of them as racist or xenophobic.
Mother: Here's that all-time favourite pasta dish of yours. After all these years I decided to... enhance it a bit.
Me: Urm, well, it's... different. What exactly did you change? Definitely tastes pretty unusual...
Mother: Don't like it? Well, aren't you a little xenophobe again...!
Girlfriend: Hey look, I completely shaved my head and got a giant tattoo of the Pope in a diaper on my chest.
Me: Woah, ****... urm, I mean... okay?! You... I... why? I thought you... looked beautiful. This... I don't...
Girlfriend: Don't like it? Wow, you're always such a total racist!

ETA: I think the proper term should be Gamerist. Xenophobe and racist are just so, well, not applicable.

What the **** are you talking about?
Common response by a Japanophile when faced with a large number of people who regard some Japanese product as being of low quality. It cannot possibly be that Japan made something less than perfect, it must be that all of those people are racist!

Ah, you must be one of those people who think BioWare is ruined. I bet you also think Final Fantasy sucks from FFX and onwards (and probably think that FFVII is the best FF game).Roflbox wrote...
Final Fantasy 13 is worse than Mass Effect 3!
I actually started playing Final Fantasy 13 again, for the second time (i.e. this is my thrid time) just two days ago. While it is shorter than most FF games, it's an awesome game. People are just idiots. FFXIII doesn't have the most interesting main characters overall, but they are memorable. Lightning is the most interesting protagonist in the FF series (way better than that pouncy Cloud - not that there's anything wrong with being a little Milhouse-esque). Rikku, Tidus, Balthier and Lightning are probably the most memorable Final Fantasy characters.
BTW, I reckon Sephiroth is overrated. Just because he is the only antagonist to actually kill a main character, doesn't mean he's any better than any other antagonists in the series.
I'll admit though, Square has promised a lot, and hasn't delivered much of the things people have been waiting patiently for (FFVsXIII and FFX HD). The quality of their games is nonetheless excellent.
Like I said, people are idiots (hence the link's complaintative writing).
P.S. They should have made FFXIII much bigger/longer, considering how long it takes to get round to all the tutorials and making Fang playable.
LMAO WOW
Everything I read from Orian Tabris represents the new gen of gamers. Also why you say from "FFX and on"????
FFX was made by SquareSOFT
secondly there's a Reason why Sephiroth is overrated and you're reason is so wrong and explodes with ignorance... it's obvious you have no clue why the classic FF series were far superior then the ones today.
You say "I'll admit though, Square has promised a lot, and hasn't delivered much of the things people have been waiting patiently"
yet you also say " The quality of their games is nonetheless excellent."
Then why would the President of SE would report this: www.develop-online.net/news/29862/Square-Enix-boss-worried-company-is-too-insular and classic Gamers like this guy make YT vids
you see I could go on and embarrass you, but I don't have anymore time to give you

Defending the most linear FF game ever such a fanboy. 30 hours of nothing but pressing one button and watching cutscenes for the game to finally open up. The characters are forgettable and Lighting is interesting but doesn't change how badly designed the game is. I don't know why you keep mentioning Cloud or anything FFVII for that matter. You must think since I'm not blind enough to LOVE 13 that I must love VII right?
You must think I'm a fanboy because XIII appeals to my tastes and therefore I am defending it, right?
You're no better than the one you're criticizing, in this regard.
And for the record, I like XIII quite a bit. Certainly not my favourite (X >>>>> every other game. Ever.), but I still replay it from time to time and I have fun every single time.

Not delivering on their promises does not necessarily equal lack of quality. Flawed argument is flawed.

"flawed argument?" LOOOL
your logic is flawed.
Have you not read for the past oooohhhh since the days of FFXII that SE haven't delievered the same quality as the classic FF games? Yeah..........just that statement alone you need to meditate on

Square has had some good games out. But I think they put KH3 off for far too long, & I haven't played a Final Fantasy game since ten that gave me that incredible epic feeling of pure awesome that the rest did. Liked twelve & thirteen enough. I didn't finish thirteen, I couldn't tell any of the characters apart really. So I was never really able to get some kindof emotional attachment to them. And I was creeped out by Lightning, when I see her I just see Cloud in drag... & that is something he has done before afterall.

Not literally racist or xenophobic, just I see similarities to those. Just, if something is different to what people are used to, so it's like they are prejudice against those different things. I find it strange how people prefer older games, yet people prefer new technology.Skelter192 wrote...

People newer to a series - they offer much more open opinions than those who have played older games.Quote the Raven wrote...

Doesn't explain why people like Final Fantasy 12 then which I'd argue is the most different from all main FF games.

I would say so.
I don't like Final Fantasy 13 either and didn't care for FFX. FFXII is what made me buy a PS2 and I still play it on PCSX2.

For the people complaining about FFXIII being linear...Um, all of the FF games are linear. A couple have a choice or two in that you can choose not to recruit some optional characters, but the storylines have pretty much no variability. FFVI probably had the most "choice" out of any of the games in the series.
Linear in regards to level design, not story design.
FFXII, for instance, was not a linear game despite it having a linear story.

Quality. Is. Arguable. What you think of as a good feature might be considered terrible by someone else, and that is perfectly acceptable.
I won't even start about the fact that you haven't adressed what I said at all.

This is not the
SquareBioWare that redefined and popularized an entire genre with a single release. This is not theSquareBioWare that pumped outdozensof classicPlayStationRPGs year after year. This is not theSquareBioWare that took creative risks during thePS2'sPC's heyday, but backed every experiment with rock-solid gameplay and storytelling. No, today'sSquare EnixEAWare is almost unrecognizable; a facade of "excellence" that only masks ignorance. Where isKingdom Hearts IIIBaldur's Gate III?

I posted the link didn't mean I came to argue with you lathrim. I don't argue with people who aren't going to see FACTS that the classic FF games are far superior then the **** SE putting out. If you want to argue, then use google, you can find a bunch of arguments and debates on FF series on which is better etc...
