Where did all the darkspawn go?

My question is where did they all go? I honestly did not get the feeling of a very good large scale battle at the end of the game. I was hoping to take a more active role in a large scale battle like at Ostagar before working my way to the Arch Demon. I know this could present problems for people with lower end PC's and not being able to handle being down in a battlefield like Duncan was, but I was really hoping to face hoards of darkspawn at some point.
Am I silly and the only one? Or is anyone else looking for this?

I wouldn't have wanted the massive battle anyway. I prefer the party vs. squad of differing enemies approach and thought that the last battles of the game were some of the low points instead of highlights of an otherwise super-fine game. So, in answer to your questions, you're not silly wanting to have the large scale army vs. army combat but I definitely was not looking for it to happen (and was actively hoping it would not).

You are never part of the army, though. You get scenes of the battle, but you are part of an elite force tasked with killing the archdemon and fending off the splinter hordes from totally destroying Denerim. That's the reason you didn't get the epic large scale battle; it was happening elsewhere.

I know the Wardens are the elite forced tasked for killing the arch demon, and I don't think that the game should have the elite force in numerous massive battles. When you think about it, and at the end of the game, you're charged with proceeding to Denerim to help stop the Darkspawn army from destroying Denerim. At that point in the game there should have been at least one large scale battle. Part of the cut scene gives you the sense of it going to be an important stand and battle that takes place, but was hardly a large scale battle. I might be asking too much, but I think it would have been important for the elite party going for the Arch Demon to participate in the initial confrontation then break from the armies you united to head out after the Arch Demon. I guess I'm more less just disappointed. My train of thought for the end battle was not the same as the developers, but I guess I was hoping more for a battle like King Cailan and Duncan had before heading off for the Arch Demon. Or battling the Arch Demon in the thick of it while your gathered armies support you against incoming Darkspawn.
