 So I'm sure their used to be an upgrade to it where you could give it the ability of whatever ammo type you were using, but looking at the upgrades this isn't there. Was I imagining things or was this removed or something? Also is it defaulted to set of fire explosions? I was using fire ammo earlier and it was triggering them.

I think you are thinking of Garrus, I believe he has that ability. As for your other question, I dunno, it could be a tech explosion/combo you are seeing.

You do have that upgrade for concussive shot. Amplification rank 6.
I'm able to have cryo ammo and when I use concussive shot it freezes whatever the target is. The same can be said for disruptor ammo and fire ammo.
