Hello,

Is there a way to disable the rings (the red, blue and yellow ones) that highlight the charactars during battle? I find them a bit redundant as they provide no information that is really needed..

Check the Nexus. I believe there's a mod that does just what you ask.

I, otoh, find them to be quite useful.  At a glance I can which character(s) is/are actively being given orders, who their targets are, clearly indicates who my (unorderable) allies are (as opposed to uninvolved bystanders.  Etc.
