Socializing the RPG

If Dragon Age III had an app for my phone that allowed me to organize my inventory, character equipment, and even buy things from merchants (like in game things, not DLC), I feel like that could be a fun way to track my progress and do some micromanaging that I wouldnt need to then do when I played the game next.
Also I think it would be cool to have a trading marketplace Valve style with in-game items that you can trade with other players online.
Just some thoughts. What do others think?

I dread finding the perfect mage staff on my warrior playthrough. If I could sell / trade it online it would be fun.

This is also why multiplayer is a possibility, one that I think will work out well if BioWare is able to sell folks on a RPG multiplayer. I said this earlier but the flashpoints in ToR are a good example of how to do it, at least in terms of storytelling. It would need some tweaks of course to fit into Dragon Age, but it would be really cool to implement.

More seriously, I have no desire to socialise the single player RPG. Aside I guess from talking about it on forums. I want to vanish into a different world, I have no desire to tie it to this one.

If the inventory in a game is so complex I feel the need to download an app to do it on my break, or that things such as crafting or leveling up takes so much time that I would need to not do so in the normal game, then that is bad design.
If there is an auction house, that requires an always-online mode in order to prevent people from creating their own weapons offline and then selling them. Also, the chances of an auction house not charging with real money, or having a way to buy in-game gold with real-life cash, is slim to none. Couple it with the fact that any support for mods that would exist without a mod kit out would be actively fought against by the developer, to prevent people from making extremely over-powered weapons to sell in said auction house.
And, as far as Facebook updates about me leveling up or Twitter tweets when I sleep with an LI... I have no desire to be incentivized to use these social media outlets, nor would I want to advertise my gaming choices to the world, either.
So... pretty much no to this. Chris Avelone is a smart designer, but on this front, I completely disagree. Trying to turn everyone in the world into a hardcore gamer is like trying to turn everyone into a soccer fan, or turning everyone into a mystery-novel reader. The marketing techniques are usually fairly ineffective at capturing new fans. Word of mouth from a quality product is the number one way to bring new customers into your genre.

So.. how to socialize it... ... ... I don't really want to. If I had to, I'd imagine some mp where you can battle players from other factions, only they see you as enemy stand-in characters and you see them as same? If we're socializing single player. Win or lose and your story changes in some small, immediate way. If you don't like the change or want full control of it, then you have a toggle in game to replace the other player character enemies with npcs.
Also, you could have a player character market similar to the Pawn market in Dragon's Dogma, where you can hire other players' created characters as castle guards or an officer to send out on missions or something. That might be cool.

If anything they could make a Diablo 3 styled AH if that's what you're getting at. But I doubt Bioware would be planning to do something like that.
And also, "socialise the RPG" the thread title has nothing to do with what you've written in your post OP. Socialising the RPG is what they did with Skyrim, they gave the players people that you can interact with rather than Oblivion where you are wandering the landscape alone. Bioware games have never ever been like an Elder Scrolls game, so this thread really is pointless.

Am I the only one that likes playing singleplayer games as a singleplayer?
No I like it too.
That said, I also like playing online with people. If I get to choose between the two within one game, and if its implemented properly, then I see no issue with it.

I feel this way about most systems that aren't related to the story aspect of the game. As an example, I'm not really keen on crafting in these games. The very limited involvement in DA2 suited me just fine as I didn't have to think about it at all beyond buying the occasional recipe. My OCD for looting everything took care of the materials aspect of it. I know that other people enjoy crafting, though, so I won't begrudge them of it. If people want a phone app so they can organize their bags or respec their PC/followers while standing in line at the bank, go nuts, as long as I can avoid it if I want.Foopydoopydoo wrote...

So that means the in game currency is worthless, which means they'll throw up some real money auction house, something I have no interest in. Microtransactions are bad enough, but paying another player money to get an item, that type of idea is so bad that it isn't worth me talking about it so I'm just going to stop.

I don't want DA:I to look and play like ME3. A single-player RPG is a single-player RPG and I really would like to play one.

^ This right here. If I want to play with friends, I'll play an appropriate game. Don't tamper with my single player experience.
