I find it hard to believe that 30 fps was the intended rate on PC.  If that was the case, they would have hard-capped it at 30 fps.

I don't find that difficult to believe when you consider these are the same people that left in a 70 degree FoV for PC.

I withdraw my comment. :lol:

Air Quotes, MoeRayShep - I agree.

The funny thing is that this topic is about the Divine Masters being upset by how things work for the console peasants :P

Though we don't even know yet if PC 30fps = console 30fps. (I mean besides people from both sides who are sure that gameplay vids of the respective other platform totally prove their point.)

The whole consoles vs pc thing is not the point of this thread, but it never hurts to beat yourself on the shoulder for being part of the Master Race :whistle:

It's just stupid that FPS affects AI performance significantly and the OP is worried that, when enough morons find out, PUGs will be infested by 30 FPS Farmers which, in my book, is almost as bad as missile glitchers.

Actually we would only get easier games. That's it. And by easier I mean - console difficulty/intended difficulty games, which may seem too easy for vets, who are used to 60+ FPS.  Joiners can play at any framerate, so only hosts will suffer 30 FPS thing.

Well, I don't like the spikes in difficulty. Lag is one thing, it sucks but to some extent it's manageable. I usually play with friends and most have capable rigs. This weekend, however, I joined a dozen or so PUGs and most were terrible, either b/c crazy lag or they felt like playing on Bronze.

I prefer to know what can and cannot be done without having to guess the host's frame-rate <_<

Hmm, I should try 30 FPS vs Geth.

I wonder how less BS I'd get. Would I still get rocket troopers firing their rockets and then turning around to face me ? Would they still double/triple tap ? Would Primes shoot as soon as you got out of cover ?

That would explain why the most vocal Geth haters are on PC.

From what I remember playing on an old pc, all those things happen. They aren't just brutal like at a good fps.

Lag is only manageable when the host is not running at a high frame rate. At 60 FPS and higher you are more  likely to get killed before you can see it on your screen, especially noticeable when you are the last man standing and not the host.

They are really fun at 20 FPS though, rocket troopers still fire multiple rockets from their ass but non of those hit you, running through flamer does no damage and hunter shots can be sidestepped.

Who would want to play on 30 FPS? That's just masochistic ...

Someone who appreciates cinimatography, and motion blur.

I had capped Fallout 3 (With a mod to add motion blur,) and any first person game that supported the feature to get the more chaotic feel it gives. (Albiet, I try to hang around 48FPS exactly, mind you.)

Without blur, 60FPS is definately better... But, that blur is so good, to me.

all those petty little squabbles aside: am i the only one who wonders why any game developer would use a game engine that scales enemy difficulty with framerates? i'm obviously not a gamedeveloper myself, but that just sounds like plain bullsh*t. seriously, why would anyone use such an engine?

that's about as stupid as an ebook reader that changes contents of ebooks, depending on the distance between display and the readers eye!?!

@Royat Yeah, but games aren't movies. I'd to quit L.A. Noire because it was awful to play with its terrible fps.

@Caratinoid Make a vid. lol Yeah, they're damn easy like that. I think that's why pugs tend to play more geth than anything. Even Bioware said so, no?

mmm, to add something to this thread... I just gathered a standard PUG for silver then ninja changed it to Gold@250fps :devil:. I would only interfere when the sh** was about to hit the fan. Had I not interfered it would have been a wipe at wave 7. Which was much better than I expected and pretty good considering these were 3 silver players with BW I, Typhoon III and no consumables as usual. Furthermore, I did not notice a big difference between 250fps and 60fps. The biggest difference is between 60+fps and something less than or equal to 30fps. I did not notice SuperAI at 250fps and these 3 silver players were able to handle it quite well.

Whoah, whoah, whoah.

Until now I didn't even bother with reading that FPS thread.

So, the FPS is tied to the difficulty, huh? Good to know.

which brings me back to my question in my 1st post, is 60 FPS cap acceptable by most people then?
should i take off V-sync and let the crazyness begin?

or is 60 FPS a good compromise for everyone?

i am genuinly curious to everones answer on this.
because above 60 it starts to get ridiculous get around 100 and some amazing stuff begins to happen, surprised i have any hair left on my head from my platinum solos with 80 to 110 or so FPS.

all opinions welcome on my question. :)

maybe play with some friends capped & uncapped & see what they think

@100RenegadePoints

Are you sure that it was 250FPS? Any kit with less then 900 shields wouldn't be able to recharge it's shields at all, making extraction very unlikely.

You all need to understand that not everyone can afford to upgrade their PC every year. I'd love to run my lobbies at 60+ FPS but the best I can get is 45 even with minimum settings. If someone wants to give me a free top end vid card let me know, otherwise quit with the complaining.

That's not the issue. The game should be the same at 30 FPS or at 120 FPS. At least A.I. wise.

I get that, it just some people here, including the OP, assume that players are doing this intentionaly, as if it was their fault and they were doing something wrong. All I'm saying is that's not the case in my sitaution and many others.

Even IF they are doing it on purpose it's not a cheat and they are actually making this game playable and reasonable for themselves and PUG's. Assuming it's 30 FPS and not less.

apparently i was wrong earlier, i had assumed i was getting those FPS rates without V-sync.

so whoever it was that said its capped reguardless of v-sync is correct.
i tested with v-sync off, and it was still 60.1 FPS.

so apparaently i just assumed and that was bad on my part.

i was hesitant to post because i felt like an idiot, after my earlier claims, but here i am manning up admiting i was wrong.

so there was not any difference on my FPS rate when i turn on v-sync or turn it off, it still remains 60.1 cap for me.

add:
to be more clear, a player would have to modify the .ini to get over 60.1 or 62 FPS.
just like someone said earlier in this thread.

all this pertaining to PC, if anyone is wondering what im refering to.

there is a saying somewhere "assumption is the mother of all F***up's"

i think i have proven that today... :blush:

add:
just noticed other people using the word assume in this thread, so i didnt mean that statement toward anyone but myself.

Lets get one thing straight about the frame rate issue.
Consoles are specced at 30fps and the AI is based around it for Consoles only.
PC has always been a 60fps type environment. Most monitors are specced at 60hz at a minimum and many go even higher, although 60hz is the default for most LCDs. Therefore the game would be optimized for 60fps with vsync on the PC.

This is why PC, Xbox360 and PS3 don't get to play the same match.

Next gen Consoles will be specced at 60fps or higher now that most HDTVs support 1080P @60hz.

Right.

I ran down the long hallway on Giant that is in-between the stairs to the Control room and the ramp down to the lower area, opposite the LZ. There was a Ravager in a straight line to me at the back wall and because of traffic I had no choice but to run down that alley, directly in the line of Ravager fire.

Ravager shot three times, hit me once, I was not zig-zagging because I had sorta figured out that the host was laming on 30fps and wanted to test it. I RAN STRAIGHT DOWN THE HALLWAY AND TOOK ONE SHOT. Also, there were Marauders and Cannibals firing at me simultaneously.

So, all of that only happened in my mind? Sure.

enemies often miss before they get synced on you. it isn't unlikely for a Ravager, atlas, scion or prime to miss 1 or two shots out of their first volley, when they first target you. Especially if they were just targetting a teammate. After that they're accuracy becomes deadly.

The same is for small arms fire by dragoons, marauders, cannibals and the like. Ever noticed how they miss a burst or two if you rush their spawn? So long as you move horizontally they will usually miss a few shots until they "sync" on you. If you hadn't killed them by that point then you pretty much deserve to die or are forced to use cover.

Disabling vsync alone won't raise your frame rate past 62, you will need to add these to your gamersettings.ini:

UseVsync=False
SmoothFrameRate=True
MinSmoothedFrameRate=22
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=240

You can set the last variable as high as want, assuming your system can pump out the frames. If you're on a 120hz screen, setting usevsync=true will cap you at 120 FPS.

I remember when someone started a topic about shield/health gates weirdness, BSN became obsessed with the idea that gates stopped working with latest update. And now it's a frame rate thing.
My God, topics like this are epidemic.

I understand that Caratinoid has some good evidences, but really? Are we going to start a witch hunt?

The game is fundamentally broken. Experience varies DRASTICALLY depending on FPS. On modern game that's released in 2012 it's unacceptable. It should handle 60 FPS with no issues.

Yet it's made for 30 and with 60, you're fighting a 2x tougher enemies. All balance changes, all buffs and nerfs are meaningless, when the core is broken.

And Bioware refuses to comment.

you mean on PC?

cuz all this crap sounds like a "master race":sick:  problem to me.  it has yet to stop braggadocio threads and vids about platinum solos with no mods and common weapons.  sooooo um....yeah
