Someone at the office locked up the servers by using shield boost, and the servers- being inanimate objects- can't to a heavy melee to fix it.

I'll bet that's what happened.

When EA's servers go down, their forums often lock, too. Since that's now the only way to get updates - Bioware closed the Tech Help forum here, directing you to EA - it's an endless void of information.
