Did the ending ruin the chances of Mass Effect becoming a giant, long lasting franchise?

Exactly, it's the "love the one you're with" idea.  Or as someone once put it, "you dance with the one that brung you".  If someone helps make you successful, you do your best to please them or to at least maintain a relationship with them.  You don't go out and look for fans you might never get by ignoring those you have.  I think it's why all these sayings mean the same thing, but say it in different ways.

Apparently they didn't like their target demographic and wanted to change it. There's nothing wrong with that.

yeah .. tailoring the game to a younger audience did not really work out that well.

Does an asari-cloning plant, Boobs Benezia, the RC Mako and giant, mind-controlling robot ticks who kill on a schedule really scream "older audience" that far above ME3?

Will changing or altering the ending magically change this impression now?

no, but an expansion pack (not add-on pack [and no, they do not mean the same thing]) could bring "some" sort of bright future to the franchise

It would show they are at least willing to mend fences.

I think this is a smart idea, something I've advocated before, but I don't know how much it's going to do for those who are already "wise" to EA/BioWare's ways---the "lessons" they've learned from this experience, as they've been voicing for a year. Who does BioWare cater to here?

There is one thing ME3 assured, it will not be something that is timeless. Unlike star wars or star trek, Mass effect will never cross media on such a scale because of this poor ending. You can be sure ME could have been this generation star wars, instead its gona be milked like call of duty until its dust. Make the fan hate every new game more then the last, scratch your heads and be angry at what could have been.

This.

Re: the original post, yeah. I haven't touched the SP campaign of mass effect since ignoring the pre-release reviews and picking up Omega: genuinely couldn't conceive a reason why the place wouldn't at least be revisitable. I don't know anyone in my circle of friends who's even bothered with the dlc, most sold their copies -and any conversation about the first or second games or how awesome the soundtrack was inevitably includes the line "shame the third one sucked" shortly after its been struck up.

Won't be picking up the new dlc, won't be picking up me4. Series ended with a long, slow, drawn-out fart rather than a bang.

...crysis 3

5 hours SP game with COD MP

Just saying, trying to broaden your target audience is not always a good thing

the average crysis 2 playthrough is about 8 to 10 the first time around according to the vast majority of reviewers.....the same reviewers who say crysis 3 is about 5....

My first Crysis 2 run was 9 hours, my first crysis 1 run was about 10...

Dunno according to my steam they all are about 5 hours on the hardest. If that so that mean crysis 3 is gona be 3h for me or something lol? In line with crysis warhead i guess. Crysis has always been an average fps, the time to finish sp is about on par with CoD. Nothing very long. I had the original crysis more as a way to test my computer at the time really. The story is not that interesting, the multiplayer is unique with some cool idea, but executed super poorly and its buggy/laggy as hell. Im not sure how everyone turns around in 2013 and believed crysis 3 was gona be anything but average.

Its crytek, everything they did is average, with a pretty engine.

Yes, it did. Rebooting the series in 2018 is the only viable solution.

No, that's what YOU think is the only viable solution. I think the series could go on as a continuation. I'm not going to play a rebooted trilogy as Shepard, especially if it just rehashes the same story with a few changes and a new ending just to make the whiners happy. Shepard's story is done, like the ending or not. Let's move forward.

No, ME will still go until the cash cow is milked. It will certainly never be held in as high regard as something like LOTR though -- specifically for the endings sake.

Nope, but it seems some people who claim to be fans of this series aren't fans at all. Loyal fans stick with their developer no matter what and don't just jump ship when near the finish line. Or complain or demand that the game be bent to their wishes.

Bioware can make the ending how they see fit. You can provide input, but don't complain if everything doesn't go your way. They gave you the EC, but they didn't have to if they didn't want to.

No one can really tell how the future of series will turn out, there are only guesses, no definites. The series will either continue in a certain form or crash and burn and never reach the the same lavel of Star Wars. The ending may have only put a slight halt to that, you'll just have to wait for future installments and see if they get better or worse.
