Permanently changing keybord functions?

 Hey guys,

 Is there any file I can eddit that would permanently change the keyboard mapping for neverwinter 2? I need to use a customized keyboard mapping, but everytime I reboot the game the mapping goes back to the original.
 Can anyone help me here?

not having any problems here saving key-maps from Options and they stick! (and my 'board is extensively remapped)

nyway, they get written to 'nwn2player.ini' under MyDocs

Hey man... there is something wrong.
First of all, the changes that I make through the options menu are never permanent. Everytime I restart the game I have to do it again.
Second of all, I tried some minor changes at nwn2player.ini. Setted the "showminimap" and "showmodebar" functions to 0 (because I dont want them at my module screem), but it had no effect at all.
Does anyone knows what is happening?

something wrong. Sure you're editing the MyDocs .ini file?

hm, what version of NwN2, Gog by chance? ( i'm thinking the registry isn't pointing somewhere correctly )

I have located the file through windows search... and there was only one result... the location it pointed to is C:\\Users\\admin\\Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2. Is itt right?
Thee version the game indicates is 1.023 (1765) final

Maybe this is happening because I instaled the game at a custom destination instead of the default one. If this is the problem, is there any way to solve it without reinstaling the game?

That sounds like the right one. do you have permissions and all 'UAC' that stuff set? were they set (off) when installing the game?

note: on my system (Xp) I installed from DVD to a custom directory and have np's. There is also a 'nwn2player.ini' in that directory as well as my Doc's directory ... but it just kinda sits there and doesn't do anything.

I meant, what *edition* of NwN2, what's the distribution medium & from where


you could search the registry for "Neverwinter Nights 2" and check that the paths to your custom destination are correct, but if things go wrong it may mean reinstalling the OS(!)

Hey, I got the game at amazon, a long time ago. It came in a dvd too.
what is UAC? If you are talking about admin persmissions at the computer, I do have them.
How do I search the registry for the paths?

But i really don't know enough about this stuff to say 'look here, do that...' So,

do Google ;)


... unless there's other ideas about why nwn2player.ini doesn't get saved, and isn't even getting accessed. My own last advice, pretty much, is to try the NeverLauncher prototype app ( it's a frontend for NwN2 and might nudge something into place, or perhaps give a message about what's wrong, since it deals with that file also ). I'm not sure where to get a recent copy, but Pain posted a dropbox link here.

That solution of running as administrator solved the keymapping problem... it just couldn't help me to permanently disable the minimap and modebar... but I can try to live with that.

Minimap is controlled by minimap.xml
Modebar by modebar.xml

i Bet those could be pseudo-permanently disabled by copying them from

\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\UI\\default

to

\\Documents and Settings\\<user>\\My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\ui\\custom

and just delete the contents of the *copied* files with a text editor.

hey Kevl... do you know any way of disabling that other bar... the one which gives access to rest and etc? (the lower left one, with three buttons)

that's playermenu.xml -- if my suggestion for the minimap & modebar worked, do the same here.


what do you play this game with.. intuition?

Hey Kevl, in reality I'm using the toolset to create a maze-game that is also a scientific experiment, which is required to fullfuil master's degree requirements. In order to isolate the variables which I'm studying, my game needs to be extra-simple.
:P
