Why cancel DA2 DLC if DA3 is coming 2014?

From what I recently read it now seems DA3 is coming out 2014 and an expansion for DA2 has been cancelled.

Personally I think this is not fair, I love the DA series and DA1 had plentiful dlc especially Awakening which was well worth its price. If the DA2 dlc was going to be on par with Awakening it would have been very nice to have something more to play up until DA3 gets released even.

Bioware please could you release some more DLC for DA2 in the mean time, I've played DA1 around 6 times and just started my 6th game on DA2.

It's still on target for 2013 according to Mike Laidlaw.

This really isn't going to happen at this point...

Considering the amount of unsold copies you can pick up for 50 dkr. ( 9 $ ) in my local gamestore, I doubt that's going to happen. These are sealed original release copies, gathering dust.

Isn't the DLC team the same as the core game one? I can't imagine how they would find time to work on DLCs while they are busy with DA: I.

The DLC for DA2 didn't sell as well as expected. That's why The Exalted March got cancelled. I've heard they're planning to integrate ideas from that expansion into DA3.

Because it wouldn't come in 2013/14 if they were working on an expansion?

Oh ok that is a shame, well I seriously hope DA3 is more like DA1 as I feel overall as an RPG the first game was near perfect and the interface the whole system seemed a lot better. In DA2 it seems a bit too basic and cheapish also usually newer games are usually bigger in size whereas DA1 is a bigger game and 2 is smaller in overall map and installation size :-/

Either way if nothing is on the horizon for more DLC then I patiently await DA3.

Considering how much better the DLC for 2 was than the actual game itself it was a shame. However, them cancelling it, ending DA2 and starting on 3 (and gaining a little more time by doing so), and hopefully integrating some of those ideas into 3 are all good things. SO its an acceptable trade off to me.

Also, yeah, they're not going to make more DA2 DLC. No way. They're into 3 already, they're not going to go backwards. No offense, but its ridiculous to even hope for it. DA2 is long over and good riddance I say.

But the DLC for 2 being so much better gives me hope for DA3. It made me feel like the team deserved a second chance. I'm hoping they succeed with 3.

DA3 is not currently coming out in 2014.

it's still on track to be released at the end of this year.

No one was going to buy anything that had the word "Dragon Age 2" attached with it besides a dedicated few.

It made more sense to drop the current expansion and focus all their resources with Dragon Age 3 in hopes to rebuild the series.

Simple they wanted there whole team to be working on DA3. Splitting between two projects would have meant less progress on DA3.

Also Mike Laidlaw tweeted that DA3 is still shooting for 2013

Usualy, what's make it a yes or no often end up as "it's worth it or not ?".
And by "worth it", it's not only about making money but about how much money.

May be they decided that it would be more productive in the long run to reasigne the DA2 DLC staff on other projects.

Because most people hated DA 2 and generally speaking don't enjoy buying DLC for games they hate?

The expansion would have been a money sink for BioWare I assume, since the retailers didn't even have interest in an ultimate edition. So, the only logical way was to scrap the expansion und use the resources for DA III.

Everything DA II related is over, fortunately.

It did not reach sales targets... simple. (maybe a result of it being average at its best)

Because doing Felicia Day's self-insert was more important for Bioware's time and money than The Exalted March.

Yes, I'm just a little irritated.

Why not? If we're to take the exce's word for it, BioWare has been working on DA3,  since they were still working on DA2. They can't possibly stretched more thin than they were at the time, as they were supposedly working on DA2, the DA2 DLC and DA3. Unless they are going to tell us that they are working on DA3 DLC already, as well as DA4.

I'd think that the reason would be fairly obvious: so they can put all of their developer resources into the new game rather than working on a new game and also simultaneously developing DLC for DA2. This isn't only just about real resources like money or manpower, but also about abstract ones like creativity. They are also working with a completely new engine for DA3.

What's disappointing me is that DA2's epilogue was pretty much Varric saying three or four lines about you and bam! End. That sucks for DA2 and I hoped the expansion would FINALLY settle that, but I can only hope the response to that and ME3 ensures that they get their endings down-pat from now on.

Well, it's very simple. DA2 is a piece of crap. We knows this. Bioware knows it. No point in wasting anymore time on it.

Speak for yourself, not for all of us. Many players liked the game, and don't need you including them in your hatred of the game.
