Re: The Ultimate N7 Gauntlet
Confidentiality classification: XB-PRIME
Distribution: N7 Forces Only

Soldiers of the Milky Way --

As our fight against the Reapers pushes onward, we've received requests from several N7 operatives wishing for some type of special training or obstacle course be put in place for them to stay sharp during their downtimes, from both veterans wishing to hone their skills and new recruits wanting to test their mettle.

We've asked Lieutenant DragonRacer to use her expertise in Turian military training tactics to devise a friendly competition that would meet your requests. In return, she has designed this tournament. Does your team have what it takes to overcome the Ultimate N7 Gauntlet?

Structure/Rules

~ Teams will be composed of 3-man squads (like Commander Shepard's SP campaign)

~ Teams are allowed to sign up a total of two reserve members. That makes a team total of no more than 5, with no more than 3 being allowed to play any one round for official score submission. This is to account for any back-ups that may be needed due to a primary team member being unavailable to complete a round before deadline. However, once sign-ups have ended, reserve team members are locked in and cannot be used by any other team.

~ Teams must choose a class level and stick with that one through to completion of the tournament (i.e. Bronze, Silver, or Gold difficulty)

~ Teams do NOT have to be composed entirely of BSN members. Only one BSN member is required per team to allow for proper communication (so, yes, invite your non-forum buddies that you play with regularly to join your team)

~ After sign-ups have ended, teams will be locked in for the duration of the tournament. This means that no team member can drop out and be replaced by a different one. So, no, you cannot bring in a "ringer" for you during any particular round. Choose your teammates wisely.

~ 6 round minimum per class level

~ 7 days per round (Rounds start at 12:00pm noon EST on Fridays and end at 11:59pm midnight EST the following Thursday).

~ Once a round has begun, teams may play that match-up as many times as they like while searching for the optimum score before deadline passes. However, once a scorecard has been submitted, that team is locked in and cannot later submit a better scorecard.

~ One screenshot of final scoreboard, plus a list of characters & weapons used by all team members must be submitted (yes, honor system will, unfortunately, be the only way). Screenshots and character/weapon lists should be sent to: theultimaten7gauntlet@gmail.com

~ Total credit amount will be added to the total match score for a combined tournament score. Yes, this means that milking the objective waves may or may not make your final score any better than completing them ASAP for bonus credits would. Choose your strategy wisely.

~ Once drawn, there will be no changing of enemy/map for each bracket. You will play what you are given. If you are unhappy with your match-up, then rise above it and prove yourselves as true N7 operatives. Also, you MUST set your match to your assigned enemy and map. Setting the enemy to "unknown" and trying to trick the system for extra experience points is NOT permitted in this competition.

~ Team with most points advances to next bracket (Silver class level has an exception - see Page 13 for details)

~ All scorecards will be posted - hidden scores will not be allowed

~ Teams unable to provide a screenshot by deadline will automatically lose their bracket. All teams will have ample notification via thread and PM as to when round starts, when 48 hours are left, and on final day of score submission.

~ Final match will be one level harder than chosen class level. It will be a controlled round (i.e. both teams will face the same enemy/map combination).

~ Gear allowed. Consumables allowed. Clever use of game mechanics allowed (i.e. pizza running, reload cancelling, spawn nuking, objective milking, etc.).

~ Any Wildcard slots will be determined once final number of teams are in place per class level (see Page 13 for details)

~ Each round will have a specific theme that recaps a point in ME3 MP history

~ Enemy and map selections will be made by random drawing from a hat by the Tournament Master (that would be me)

~ Rounds 1 & 2 will take place only on one of the 6 original maps and potential enemies will only be one of the original three factions. Round 3 will only take place on one of the Resurgence DLC maps and potential enemies will only be one of the original three factions. Round 4 will only take place on one of the Rebellion DLC maps and potential enemies will only be one of the original three factions. Round 5 will only take place on one of the Earth DLC maps and potential enemies will only be one of the original three factions. Round 6 will only take place on one of the 6 hazard maps and EVERYBODY'S enemy will be Collectors. Final Round has the chance of drawing any possible map and enemy faction currently available.

~ PC, XBox, and PS3 teams can all compete

~ Prizes awarded for each class level will be bragging rights only. You'll also get a nice little forum banner to display in your signature.

Round 1: Any common character & any common gun
Round 2: Any uncommon character & any uncommon gun

Bonus Round
Strictly for fun, the winning teams of each class level are invited to compete AGAINST their own team members to earn the title The Ultimate (class) N7 Solo Artist. That is to say, the winning Bronze class team will compete against each other (the 3 players composing the squad) and the fastest Bronze solo time will earn the title The Ultimate Bronze N7 Solo Artist. The winning Silver class team will compete against each other (the 3 players composing the squad) and the fastest Silver solo time will earn the title The Ultimate Silver N7 Solo Artist. And the winning Gold class team will compete against each other (the 3 players composing the squad) and the fastest Gold solo time will earn the title The Ultimate Gold N7 Solo Artist.

Participation in the Bonus Round is strictly voluntary and does not affect the overall tournament championship.

Round 1 Has Now Started! Team compositions can be viewed here: Google Docs sign-up sheet

Special thanks to keystpwned for creating the tourney logo and for agreeing to keep the bracket graphics updated. Also, thanks to P51Mus7ang and others (you know who you are Posted Image ) for letting me bounce ideas back and forth to help make this as structured as possible. And one last additional thanks goes to Cory, whose original Mass Effect Arena competition served as inspiration to create The Ultimate N7 Gauntlet.

EDIT UPDATE: Official brackets have been posted and Round 1 has begun.

Awesome name

Sounds fun.
And seems well thought out.

Addding the credits seems like a good idea, but Idon't think it'll be enough, to deter/provide an alternative from obj wave milking.
Would it be possible for there to be some sort of bonus for quick times? No idea as to how that'd work though =S

Nice try. I appreciate the effort to add the credits to the point for the grand total, but I'm afraid it won't be enough. Milking objectives will be the way to go.

I won't be joining tournies as always.

That said, good luck to everyone and let's make a good show!

I had thought about that, but not quite sure how to implement it. As it stands, there will not be. If an idea is proposed that sounds feasible before the tournament starts, I will consider amending the current rules to account for it.

Sorry you won't be joining, but I appreciate the support, nonetheless. I would love to get a lot of teams signed up for each class level and really make this a great, fun tournament. I am ready and willing to keep teams on task and see this through to the end... now, I just need teams! LOL

You could ask around BSN? Or if anyone reading this thread needs teammates, feel free to use this thread as a way to try and hook up to form teams. Try listing your platform and timezone and maybe some other BSNers will reach out to you who are in the same position of needing teammates.

Love this. Want in.

Re: Grim's point, I think maybe credits should count for double, to make the math work a little better. It would still be worth milking objectives, but would make it require a great deal of strategy, and reward people who do objectives quickly.

I think I'd have to sign up with a Silver team to avoid being a liability to my team.

Will definitey be back with a more formal sign-up later. :)

Edit: Deerber's point makes me want to say triple the credits value if you want to avoid milking as a strategy. If that's what people want, of course.

Sorry about not joining. I don't particularly like the idea of competitions in a co-op game, just that :)

But this one seems very well structured, and tries to put the emphasis on more than points, so I respect and like that.

And don't worry, I'm sure you'll have loads of teams. People like to compete against each other ;)

Great stuff ! I am trying to gather a team and, if successful, will participate :)
Could you make a list of what each round will look like with estimated dates ? For example :

Bronze class (winning team will be named The Ultimate Bronze N7)
Round 1: Any common character & any common gun available from the vanilla Mass Effect 3 MP game (*insert here a link to a post/spreadsheet/document/whatever listing available characters and guns*). Games must be played only on Glacier/Ghost/Giant/White/Dagger/Reactor, facing only Cerberus, Reapers or Geth (i.e. no Collectors). Starts on Friday, March 1st midnight CET. Ends on Sunday, March 10th 11:59 PM CET.
Round 2 : Any common character & any common gun available from the vanilla Mass Effect 3 MP game (cannot re-use same character & gun as you did previous round) (*insert here a link to a post/spreadsheet/document/whatever listing available characters and guns*). Games must be played only on Glacier/Ghost/Giant/White/Dagger/Reactor, facing only Cerberus, Reapers or Geth (i.e. no Collectors). Starts on Friday, March 15th midnight CET. Ends on Sunday, March 24th 11:59 PM CET.
etc...

That would help a lot. I can build the lists of available characters/weapons if you want (but it will take time, I won't be able to post that today :D)

i agree with that sentiment, and it's kept me out of other tournaments in the past.
however i think my stance on this may have softened a bit as of late.
so i'm unofficially/officially stating that i'm up for giving this tourney a shot. i don't have screeshot posting capabilities (being the scrubbiest of xbox scrubs), but i'd be glad to help out a gold bracket group.

I'm on PS3 and would love to participate, but I have no squad. If anyone on PS3 needs a teammate, scope my manifest and send me a PM if you're interested. I'm CST (GMT -6), available weeknights and weekends. Bronze, Silver and Gold are ok.

ETA: Oh, and I have a mic.
