I think everyone gets what the pros are ; the main concern is : who will still be motivated to play (competitively, that is) from March til June ? Honestly, this is a question worth asking.Slother93 wrote...

Yeah that seems like way too long.
I often have to travel for business for a week at a time, and sometimes have to travel on the weekends too. Spanning two weekends gives me flexibility to participate; any shorter a time period and you just cut me out.

That is a good reason to allow teams to sign up with an alternate, but yes I see your point. One other way to make shorter time frames work is to announce all of the challenges in advance. That way you can do a few of them when you get your group together.

I see your point too. Alternates would be a good way around that.

In regards to time and credits - I am open to reasonable suggestions. Should credit amount be doubled? Should experience points be divided by time? As long as the rules are set in stone before the tournament starts, I am open to considering suggestions to help make it more than just experience score based.
Also, I am happy folks find it "interesting"... but please don't quote pyramid too much and get this thing locked. Pretty please?

Great stuff ! I am trying to gather a team and, if successful, will participate
Could you make a list of what each round will look like with estimated dates ? For example :
Bronze class (winning team will be named The Ultimate Bronze N7)
Round 1: Any common character & any common gun available from the vanilla Mass Effect 3 MP game (*insert here a link to a post/spreadsheet/document/whatever listing available characters and guns*). Games must be played only on Glacier/Ghost/Giant/White/Dagger/Reactor, facing only Cerberus, Reapers or Geth (i.e. no Collectors). Starts on Friday, March 1st midnight CET. Ends on Sunday, March 10th 11:59 PM CET.
Round 2 : Any common character & any common gun available from the vanilla Mass Effect 3 MP game (cannot re-use same character & gun as you did previous round) (*insert here a link to a post/spreadsheet/document/whatever listing available characters and guns*). Games must be played only on Glacier/Ghost/Giant/White/Dagger/Reactor, facing only Cerberus, Reapers or Geth (i.e. no Collectors). Starts on Friday, March 15th midnight CET. Ends on Sunday, March 24th 11:59 PM CET.
etc...
That would help a lot. I can build the lists of available characters/weapons if you want (but it will take time, I won't be able to post that today)
Absolutely I can. At work at the moment, but I'll have it put together by tonight at the latest.

Sorry about not joining. I don't particularly like the idea of competitions in a co-op game, just that
But this one seems very well structured, and tries to put the emphasis on more than points, so I respect and like that.
And don't worry, I'm sure you'll have loads of teams. People like to compete against each other
i agree with that sentiment, and it's kept me out of other tournaments in the past.
however i think my stance on this may have softened a bit as of late.
so i'm unofficially/officially stating that i'm up for giving this tourney a shot. i don't have screeshot posting capabilities (being the scrubbiest of xbox scrubs), but i'd be glad to help out a gold bracket group.
My hope is that this will be fun-based more than anything else. And more in the spirit of "squad training and improvement" as a "story" base moreso than a giant my e-peen is much bigger than your e-peen sort of thing.
Also, screen capture is not required. A legible photo of the scoreboard is sufficient.

You should really consider having teams sign up with an alternate. The first speedrun tournament we did fell apart pretty quickly due to peoples schedules. The second tournament we did went much better. We had 8-9 people per team to submit a 4 man run and it made a world of difference, though even then it was tough. I know you don't want team changes late and people bringing in ringers so make them sign up with the alternate from the beginning.
That is a fair point. I might consider letting teams sign up one team back-up member.

Since the length of the tournament has been brought up as a concern by several folks, would the following adjustment seem reasonable:
~ 7-day timeframe (rounds start on a Friday and run through to Thursday)
~ Allowance of one extra person to be signed up as a back-up in the event a team member is indisposed (i.e. travel, work, friend's wedding, etc.) due to decrease in round timeframe
That would put the tournament end date at April 18th as opposed to June 2.
Floor is now open to discussion...

if the majority is fine with the 7 day time frame, I have no objection. As for the alternate player, sounds good. In the google doc, should we list in who the alternate is?

I recommend not designating an "official" alternate since who wants to be just an alternate? We can simply sign up three or four people, and submit scores from any combination of three players from that team.

I got the feeling that is what you're trying to achieve. And that's the only reason why I bothered to reply
You actually tempted my fantasy. I guess what is really taking me back is that I would in no way be a reliable teammate for anyone
But as I said, kudos to you for trying to put the emphasis on something different than e-peen: I really wish this thing good luck!
In regards to the score determination... I do think time should play a big factor. I like your idea of score/time better than the rest.

Time isn't as important to me as I am semi-retired however having given this some thought I would tend to agree 10 days is a bit long, 7 seems ideal. I am also of the opinion in 7 days a group of three should have more than enough time to get a few games in, I mean we are only talking a couple of hours to pound out quite a few games, this is IMHO for fun, we could all grind the crap out of this coming up with the perfect score, I think we should go at this for fun, do a few runs, take your best, submit and be happy with it.
No problem with one back up person, I would suggest it not be a person already on or has been on a team, this will avoid problems in later rounds. But to clarify if someone drops out and the alternate comes in, that player who dropped is out of the tournament, I sense issues if an alternate come in and out for rounds.
I would leave the total score plus credits as is, if players take some time to think about this, the strategy for each game/wave will be easy to figure out, what is the best option.

You have piqued my interest. This is extremely well thought out and I will be participating if I can find some partners.
Just my opinion as we have a team together, someone should consider a thread by platform recruiting players, you have five days to hook up and try them out, there are lots of players here and over in the legion effect, because if they start posting in this thread, it's going to get so long it will be hard to stay focused.
So a shout out on the forums, I know I have over 90 from BSN that I run with and we see people looking often.
