I would suggest not:innocent:

Because we are good gaming buddies, I can use a different language when playing with close friends that may not be appropiate for all viewers......but the play itself, yea sure, don't want that extra pressure of using politically correct words during our runs

Good, the game sounds better for me when headsets only is enabled.

BTW: Hauppaugge PVR 2 is supposed to arrive today, sometime. Thanks for the advice.

I think you're okay, as long as everyone has their headsets set to the earpiece, not the TV. Then the game sound is recorded, but not the chat.

From what I found during my research, if you have it set to TV or both, you can record the chat, too.

Boy, I hope I didn't just make a fool of myself, since I haven't even tested that on my PVR yet. :?

Interesting. Will have to talk this over with some friends during some games this week.

I'm down for it, but i need partners.
I play mostly gold, so it would be nice to have partners in that difficulty.

Edit: I'm on Xbox, GMT -3 time.

~ Once drawn, there will be no changing of enemy/map for each bracket. You will play what you are given.

Even if it's Geth ?

Bah.

I guess I'll just masturbate with a cheese grater instead. Way more fun.

I also appreciate that you gave us a week to prepare so I can finish up my Metroid Prime playthrough and maybe do a speedrun in that time.

DragonRacer,

First off, thanks for setting this up. It looks great!  I have some rules questions that I was unclear about:

  1) Will each bracket be a controlled round (i.e., both teams will face the same enemy/map combination)?

  2) Is full extraction required, or does the score + credit more or less take care of that?  Didn't see that mentioned.

Thanks!

There seems to be a lot of interest in this, so I guess I'm in if anyone wants to team up with me; don't really care about the difficulty.

Would be good to factor in a time component  for the match . Bonus credits is a good idea but I think time to complete the game would be better.

Sounds interesting, don't know if I could keep interest in a tourny that long after what happened in the arena duo....but shouldn't be hard to get on once a week for a few games. If anyone I play with wants to do it, if not. Good luck with this.

if the majority is fine with the 7 day time frame, I have no objection.  As for the alternate player, sounds good.  In the google doc, should we list in who the alternate is?

Yes, go ahead and list the alternate in the Google Doc as part of the team. I'm going to sleep on this and make a formal announcement/any rule amendments in the morning, and they will be the only/final changes so that people are 100% clear what they are signing up for going forward.

Unofficially, I am leaning towards changing to 7-day rounds, allowing for 5 total team members (only 3 can participate per round... 2 are considered alternates and can rotate in when/as needed with no penalty to the other 3; but alternates are locked in at start of competition and cannot be part of any other team), and leaving the score + credits as is.

Find teammates to join you, if you haven't done so already, and choose a difficulty level to participate in.

I'll consider it. I'd like a tournament to end as planned.

But if Reckoning comes out during a round, you'll have a mess on your hands.

Not really. I anticipate that it will, but the tournament will go on as planned and currently formatted. If/when Reckoning drops during the tournament, I'll entertain the idea of a second Bonus Round that invites all teams back in to run any Reckoning character/gun/map, etc. they want in a free-for-all. LOL

1. Each team facing each other will be playing the same enemy/map.

2. Not required, but it would be better for your points if your team has full extraction.

Sorry about not joining. I don't particularly like the idea of competitions in a co-op game, just that :)

But this one seems very well structured, and tries to put the emphasis on more than points, so I respect and like that.

And don't worry, I'm sure you'll have loads of teams. People like to compete against each other ;)

i agree with that sentiment, and it's kept me out of other tournaments in the past.
however i think my stance on this may have softened a bit as of late.
so i'm unofficially/officially stating that i'm up for giving this tourney a shot. i don't have screeshot posting capabilities (being the scrubbiest of xbox scrubs), but i'd be glad to help out a gold bracket group.

Pick me, pick me!

I've never done a tournament before, but a little competition seems fun this late in the game.  If I can find other friends who are up for this that is.

Doesn't PC spawn more enemies than consoles? So they would have a way better shot at winning, right? I look at some of the screenshots for gold here and wonder how the crap people are scoring so much. On ps3 it usually goes like this:

1---85000
2---82000
3---71000
4---50000

That's typical...sometimes there's a bit more total points...sometimes less. Maybe medals makes the difference? I just would like to know if PC has a larger spawn budget. Anyone know?

A question to my N7 comrades:

Since the length of the tournament has been brought up as a concern by several folks, would the following adjustment seem reasonable:

~ 7-day timeframe (rounds start on a Friday and run through to Thursday)

~ Allowance of one extra person to be signed up as a back-up in the event a team member is indisposed (i.e. travel, work, friend's wedding, etc.) due to decrease in round timeframe

That would put the tournament end date at April 18th as opposed to June 2.

Floor is now open to discussion...

I think all that makes sense. I would support those rules changes.

And I'll re-echo Zjarcal, and say I think doubling or tripling the credit value when adding it to points will really make doing objectives efficiently count for something close to milking the waves for points.

Doing objectives quickly is not as challenging as dragging out the objective waves. I think the original plan of adding the credits to the score is fine. I don't agree with double or tripple score for credits. People shouldn't be rewarded for taking the easy way out.

Grinding objective waves isn't "hard", I'd dare say it's easier than actually attemtping to finish the objectives as fast as possible.

The point is that as it is, simply adding the credits to encourage people to finish objectives fast will not really change anything, because you will gain much more points by simply grinding them out.

I don't think so.  Last night I was playing a few Gold matches with some friends and our scores were 140k, 120k, (unsure about the next two) 70k-90k, and 60k-80k.  We didn't milk the waves.  The next match the scores were 120k, 119k, 90k, 80-90k.

I think we got 3 kill streaks each time, we weren't spamming rockets though.  I was a Turan Soldier.  I was 1st the 1st game and 2nd the 2nd.  If I remember correctly, both games were on Ghost.  But yea, medals can make a big difference.  I think PC players tend to get the 20 headshot medal more often.  Also a full extraction is a huge help

I'm not 100% sure on that though but I highly doubt the spawns are any different.
