I was walking through Woolworths (now sadly closed in the UK) and came across a bundle they were selling of Mass Effect and the Xbox 360.

Having been a Bioware fan for years I was a little lost as to how I had missed Mass Effect, later on I'd find that it was (at the time) exclusive to the Xbox 360 whereas I was a PC gamer at the time.

So given that I had cash on the hip, I bought the game and the console and my love of the series was born.

Found out about it in late 2010 when I was browsing videogames. Got the game, played it for 15 minutes, did some research, saw about importing savegames.

And I was clearly missing a whole part so I decide not to try first for an hour or so (What I always do with games, sry... try first, buy when I like it)

So I went to the store and bought ME1 and 2.

I first played the ME2 demo in... 2011, I think?
My reaction: Holy crap! I can act like a sarcastic douche to this alien frog thing?!?! Awesome!
Then, I just kinda forgot about it... till I saw the game for 30 dollars at gamestop, with 9 hours (I think) of free content! Then, I stopped, and thought, "Wait a minute... this looks like that game from E3, a few years ago... I thought that was an Xbox 360 exclusive..?"

Well, I bought it anyway... It ruined the first game for me, now that it is no longer exclusive... Stupid, clunky controls, and boring side quests... but I'll beat the first game, eventually...

There was an ad in a magazine, either in 2006 or 2007, the really old one with (I think) Shepard, Ashley and Garrus next to a Mako, staring up at a sky littered with bits of text (equations or something, I forget).

Wish I could find it, because I know I saw it somewhere recently.

The imagery didn't matter though. As soon as I saw the words 'BioWare' I knew I wanted it.

My first reaction? Oddly enough, it was: *shrug, meh*.

The reason for it was, back before ME1 was released, there was an interview with Casey Hudson for some online website. That was the first time I learned about this game. While it looked very cool and interesting, Casey also said in the interview that a PC version was not being considered, which was the reason for the aforementioned *shrug, meh*. Thankfully, Bioware changed their minds about that later.

I didn't pick up ME until a few months after 2 was released. I was a big Bioware fan, but typically stayed away from Sci-fi.
Then I visited my little brother and watched him playing parts of the suicide mission. Went on amazon right away and placed an order.
Easily my favorite gaming franchise now.

Went to a local shop, a while after the original release (didn´t knew about it cause of no advertisement), and my brother noticed a Limited Collectors Edition of Mass Effect 1

We didn´t knew much about it but strangely nobody had bought them so they were at discount, around 10€, and I was a big Kotor/Bioware Fan so...

..Bought it and started the epic journey

Rough estimation of my thought process:

"I hate this vacation. Bored as hell... at least this Sony store is kinda nice. They have a decent video game selection... should probably look into getting a new game for my PS3... Mass Effect 2, huh? Sounds kinda familiar. I think I saw a review of it or something on X-Play... Oh well, it's the only decent looking game on the shelf. Might as well..."

It was back in 2007, i read a preview in the Xbox magazine, and i thought this could be a good game. I then began to see a few gameplay videos and liked it.

Probably two years or more before Mass Effect was ever offically announced there was a kerfullfe on one of the forums because BioWare had copyrighted or reserved the term 'Star Citadel'. I think that is perhaps the 1st hint of what the game was to eventually become.

I have to say, the main reason I bought ME2 was because my course load at college is really light this quarter and I wanted something to pass the time. After beating Fallout 3 for the third time I decided I should find a new game to play. So I looked up Mass Effect after hearing good things about it, bought the second game on a whim, and I was hooked.

Also bought Dark Souls at the same time. Another great buy.

I saw some news on my local gaming magazine about an upcoming rpg with cinematic visuals and set in the future with space travel and lots of aliens. Being a fan of scifi exploration games, like Star Control 2 which was one of my all time favorites, I was very intrigued and started to wait for the game. It was worth the wait, damn, I still remember how awesome my first play through of Mass Effect 1 in november 2007 was. It was like taking a part of some really good futuristic movie.

I didn't wanted to play it. People keep telling me ME was awesome and i was like "naaaah, it can't be better than Dragon Age you suckers"... and then the same friend that told me about dragon age, told me about how amazing ME is. So i decided to try it... at first, i downloaded a cracked copy of it. Then i fell in love with them and then decided to buy them...

When I first heard about I'm pretty sure I thought something along the lines of "hopefully it's as good as Dragon Age".

I remember seeing a teaser trailer for ME way back in 2005, it showed some very original designs (one of which later turned out to be a masked krogan), game features such as collapsible weapons, and a distinct soundtrack. It looked awesome and from that moment on I kept a mental note to follow the games progress. When it got released in 2007 I was lucky enough for it to arrive on the day of release (thanks Play.com) and I was not disappointed. All the mechanics were fresh (while not perfect) and it was clear to me that this was a universe with lots of potential, realised in ME2 and 3.

My brother got it for his birthday, but he was waiting to play it until he had finished some other games. I borrowed it from him and got hooked immediately.

I saw some gameplay demos while ME1 was in development that sparked my interest. I picked it up the first week it was out and been a loyal fan ever since. I still remember the first time me1 intro began. I just keep thinking how awesome it was and how it was choosing the direction of a movie in real time.

Actually my experience with Mass Effect was funny.

So my cousin had bought the limited edition of Mass Effect 1 around the release date, and I watched him play a little bit, even played Eden Prime myself. Never went any further than that.

Two years later, my friend lends me a french copy of ME1. Played until the Liara recruitment mission and then stopped. He eventually lent me the game again later on but I didn't get into it.

Then I started watching YouTube videos of ME2, and it looked really cool, and I played the demo on both Xbox and PC but I never bought it. Then I stumbled upon a video of ME3 (and that was after it was delayed to March 2012), and told myself: "Damn, I need to get ME1 and 2!". That was in 2011. I love Mass Effect to death now.

I read about the first one in a gaming magazine. I wasn't into serious games back then, mainly FIFA and some free MMO's, and so I paid no attention to it. Except for remembering that it wasn't anything interesting, which is quite odd, remembering such an unimportant event. Anyway, I kept on reading that gaming magazine, and one day came an issue with ME2. It got 10/10. I decided to try it out. Loved it.
