I find the Arc Pistol superior to the Paladin since the buff. 

Arc Pistol is really good and fun to use. Paladin is still a very solid gun I carry around on some of my biotics. Probably not the best gun but very easy to use. Doesn't need to be charged to reach its full potential. The small clip size can be a little troublesome though (3 shots). 

The Arc pistol is severely underrated by most of the player base and is superior in damage to the Paladin if you can hit charged headshots. The Paladin is more user friendly and has great damage to boot. It is a more cover friendly pistol as well even though I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to use cover.

This. The Wraith is a long range surgical tool, and a short range wrecking-ball. I like to pair it with incendiary ammo.

we i would say the talon is top 5 at least, i don't know about the pure best. I'd probably have to go with the hurricane. its high damage output at low weight is amazing. platinum speedruns with it on teh GI just felt liek i was raping bosses quicker then i did with teh talon, harrier, and even pirhanna

In terms of versatility and utility, I'd say the following weapons are good: Harrier, talon, piranha, wraith, hurricane, valiant, arc pistol (I rarely use it because I have a very bad tendency to spam the trigger and never charge the thing. I do that with any rapid firing weapon. Even did that with the predator.), paladin.

The Tempest is great to run on any kit. Super accurate (especially in cover), lightweight, good damage and RoF, easy to get headshots, and large clip size. Easily the easiest gun to use on Gold. Love it on a Salarian Engineer. All-around best weapon.

The greatest weapon in the game is yourself. For the mightiest weapon is powerless without the warrior to wield it.

But it all seriousness, you're probably right. The only thing I can think of competing with it is the Hurricane. But the talon still beats thanks to its lighter weight and higher accuracy.

Edit: Light enough for any caster class, high enough damage for a weapon based class. Wraith with SC has better accuracy than Talon with Scope.

Wraith is my favorite weapon. I only have it at rank 4 but I use it almost as a go to weapon.

Spec for weapon weight reduction on the rank 6 passive and slap that mother****er on your Human Engineer. You'll get 140% recharge which happens to sync up very well with the timing of reload cancelling the Raider if you use a power then unload your clip. Even if you don't take the weapon weight reduction, you still get 120% recharge which is still good enough.
