All great guns mentioned here (ehm...most of them), but some have small drawbacks that
exclude them from all-rounder category.

Harrier - great, except the ammo (that hacks with no box around, especially on Plat).
Claymore - great, but not truly all-rounder.
Reegar - range.
Hurricane - needs stability to become allrounder and most of the time theres no room for stab-mod.
Talon - closest to that title, but also effective range.
Piranha - range.

How did noone say CSMG...also has some drawbacks, but for me the winner.
Great damage, range, stability, no ammo need....only the ability to avoid overheating is needed.
Closely followed by Hurricane, Talon and Harrier (yet Crusader and Valiant come to mind).

The CSMG is more a niche weapon than an all around weapon. Not many people understand how to use it properly yet either. It has good damage against armor and good ammo application but isn't remarkable in DPS. It is amazing on a Drellguard or most classes that have ammo/power synergy like engineers but not an all around champ to me.

The CSMG is very weak at lower levels. So only the players with the absolute most hours in the game have it at its usable levels. And the fact that it initially consumes 2 ammo per shot when you start firing makes burst firing it inefficient. Couple that with its low clip size at low levels and you can overheat before even killing lower tier enemies.

It would make a hell of a lot more sense if they switched the mechanics of the CSR and CSMG. Make the SR consume 2 ammo at the start of firing so sustained fire is efficient and the CSMG consume 2 ammo after it warms up, making burst firing efficient.

All around weapon - nothing to do with fastest killer (DPS), highest damage, level-up difficulty (same as all URs),
or niche, performing without mods-gear....(think of this as thread-response).
And not knowing how to use it (ehm...do not overheat it) is also thrown out of airlock.

In nearly every aspect this gun is performing great (in the minimum others is still decent).
Great accuracy, range, ammo, damage, can deal with every enemy type pretty good.

Burst firing on casters...you can sustain fire on almost every characters cooldown, whats difficult on shooting?
With my volus eng I unload 60-70 bullets without any problem, it doesn't need burst-firing.....on volus vanguard,
biotic orb or 2 then firing whole clip (interrupted only if shield restoration is needed).

Again, as an all-around weapon I vote for CSMG (not that its my favourite gun - there is Valliant forever).
Every other gun has some aspect where it performs poorly, CSMG I cannot name one.

Particle Rifle... maybe the Wraith... I could see a good argument for the Hurricane...

Since I would say the best all around gun would be modless and not carried around on the best DPS classes, Id say the Paladin would be the best, all around utilitarian weapon. If you gotta slap mods on it to make it the best, well then I guess it isn't.

Ok, people. Lol. GI-Piranha is still the king. It's been ages since I've used that gun, but I know that it's still the gun to beat. Even after the nerf, nothing takes down enemies faster. No ammo problem. No gun since the Krsae has been campaigned against as hard as the piranha was. Even after the nerf, it still spanks the Harrier and PPR.

Well, it does that with accuracy bonuses or at point blank.

So it's not really a contender for the 'single best all around  weapon'...

reegar is

that thing is so broken

It's an overpowered weapon to be sure but I don't see a squishy character without tact cloak or BC being able to use it routinely without dying.

It's my weapon of choice on my AA...

There is no best overall weapon..I get better results with the Paladin than the Talon (I have both at X)

and now use the Arc Pistol with most caster classes (Human and (Vanilla) Asari Adept for example)

But at a weight of .6 and solid accuracy it's a good choice for close quarters but still has decent range (at least when fired from cover)

Harrier.

Wrong.

Talon, Hurricane and Javelin. Probably the Black Widow too. Maybe a few others.

should note that weapons start to see their potential at V..the highest rank you can have them in a first single player campaign

No real all round weapon. The harrier is all range auto if you use a stability mod and at 135 with the passive evo 4 encumbrance bonus, light enough for semi casters. However, use it on platinum or gold hazard dagger and you will feel the pinch.

You guys keep mentioning weapons that you use on this/that class. Do you not realize you are talking about a classes use of the weapon and not the weapon itself. A typhoon would be pretty trash on a volus, but its awesome on destroyer. That is not talking about the weapon, its talking about how a class utilizes the weapon.

A weapon is the weapon as is. No mods gear or special boost from "my favorite character"

For my earlier list CSMG should have been included for #2. The guns stability, weight, infinite ammo and pinpoint accuracy across the map are pretty dam high class. Only drawback is that without an extended mod, the guns power drops. Probably a 2.5

This was also about the best all around weapon as in it can be used in any situation on any class. The Black Widow just isn't a weapon that you use on some characters.

True.

That's why it can basically only be the Harrier since there isn't a single kit in this game where it isn't at the very least a really decent choice.

Wraith, hurricane, and talon all would be considered at the very least. No one said you could mod the weapon or best out of the box weapon.

assuming you still use mods and amps, the most versatile

Snipers: CSR (BW is awesome, but too heavy to be versatile, and needs stability to be really beastly on full-auto; Valiant and Indra are good, but lacking in damage compared to a properly-used CSR)

ARs: Harrier (duh... Mattock gets special mention if ur tigger finger can handle it)

SMGs: Hurri (CSMG is a gun I'd never take on an actual weapons class, though it is good and has more effective range; Hurri just needs its recoil controlled and its gtg on any kit)

Shotties: Wraith (dun like the gun, but can't deny it fits the 'versatile' bill for its weapon class to a 'T')

Pistols: Talon (main drawback is the low-ish clip and that the gun has too many damn good mods that could work with it- you wish you could have 4 mod slots w/ this thing- otherwise its like the Wraith in being a model versatile gun for its class)

Of all those, I guess I'd pick the Harrier as the most versatile, since it has only one major drawback that can be worked around, and is straighforward to use on any kit at w/e range they like to play.

Yes. But I don't use it.

Why? Do you like giving the enemy a sporting chance? :o

I simply don't equate maximum fun with maximum efficiency. If your enemies die instantly upon spawn or upon falling into your sights, then there's no sense of struggle and therefore no entertainment value.

Harrier. Talon has only okay range, and requires serious consumables (or an infiltrator) to one-shot shielded mooks.

Like the Raider personally... Now to see about slapping it on my casters...

Spec for weapon weight reduction on the rank 6 passive and slap that mother****er on your Human Engineer. You'll get 140% recharge which happens to sync up very well with the timing of reload cancelling the Raider if you use a power then unload your clip. Even if you don't take the weapon weight reduction, you still get 120% recharge which is still good enough.

Hmmm... I normally skip rank 6 for my casters though. But 120% sounds reasonable... 4-5 seconds is acceptable. Now to see that link...

Edit: Raiders for everyone! Now I just need to test it without HM accuracy bonuses... With HM bonuses its spread appears big, but when you actually shoot the pellet spread is decently tight. Two shot kills on mooks at midrange is decent for a short range shotgun.

Why the hell would you not use MODS on weapons?!?

It's one thing for people to not want to use equipment, but mods? Seriously?

Dude... we need organic guns... we don't need "enhanced" weapons.
