Is it a poke at Gamespot's review of Zelda Twilight Princess, written by another Jeff?
That is an absolutely bizarre, nonsensical connection to make.

Hope Joker isn't a closet white supremicist.

Why do you think I created the thread? Got any better ideas as to the 8.8? I'm listening.

I'm sorry if I came across hostile, I wasn't trying to. I don't think it has anything to do with that game review, but I honestly have no idea what it could mean -- why BioWare put it in, or why Joker would sign his message that way. It's definitely strange.

anyway, 8.8 is a symbol or just the time?

Joker is shocked by his admission, he seems to think taking Edi out is 'weirder'?
8.8 = shocked?

The actual emoticon there is ( ゚ Д゚), the 8.8 is its score.

I think it may refers to that TV trophes mentioned above, about bad reception of great games. Or it may be a Javik emoticon.
I could see if maybe Joker referred to EDI as his "princess" in that e-mail, it might be a reference to that 8.8 review. But from what is actually there, it seems completely arbitrary to make that connection. Nothing in his message makes any reference, even a vaguely implied one, to that review. There's just an "8.8" as a signature, that's all.

I also wondered about this. It's strange that in the german text setting there is a 8,8 instead of 8.8?
Not necessarily strange at all. In Danish, we use commas to separate decimals and seeing as our languages are relatively tightly connected, you probably do the same
As for the topic at hand, I have no reasonable suggestions to what he meant by that, I'm afraid.

Anyway, I think it may be a reference to the trope, but it does seem quite random.

I came across this email only in my current "everybody dies" playthrough, going to Earth with an EMS of 1210. A few things are different. Starchild saids "why are you here" instead of "wake up". Most interesting of all, Destroy was the ONLY path open:

There's a slim connection: the Zelda review was written by another Jeff.
Seems more like a coincidence, but I think the only way we'd ever know for sure would be if someone at BioWare responded to this thread.

With low EMS, the available ending at the end depends on whether you kept or destroyed the collector base.KenLyns wrote...
