Tl;dr it wastes time and is an inefficient gun.

Excellent guide Bjorn, I learned to love it myself despite all the hate and flames around the BSN. I've actualy mostly used it with Asari Vanguard. She doesn't rely on cooldowns either with a grenade focused build where I put only 3 points in Biotic Charge for shield regen. Build which I also got criticized a lot but meh, it works and is fun to play

The BSN is a funny beast. Reload Canceling is the height of skilled gunplay, but mastering a rewarding and unique slug shotgun isn't worth it.

It's really not that hard to hit with the Crusader with practice. As long as you're not trying to headshot a sideways leaping Dragoon while rapidly spinning in circles, you should be fine.
Stagger (optional after much practice)
Aim for head
Shoot
OMG magic
Or:
Bodyshot (seemingly often staggers infantry)
Headshot
WTF sorcery
Alternatively:
Aim
Watch reticule
Fire when red
OMFGWTF wizardry
As for lag: I live in Australia. That means at 200+ ms ping on a good day. Crusader still works just fine. Lag is not an excuse.

Jeah have fun with that Phantom. Just had a match Platinum as a QFI with Crusader. Worst. Match. Ever. Never again -.-
Phantom? QFI can just melee her to death.

I´m pretty decent TSol player, but when I played vs Cerberus(Gold) only with Crusader V,I never felt so helpless, especially against Phantom rush on wave 10.
On host: complain to BioWare about ridiculous Phantom DR on-host

There may be other guns I prefer for certain kits, but it does suprisingly good damage without equipment. I find it is a good fit with the Juggernaut, as I can slap on a HVB & Omniblade without losing a spot for a mod I may need on another shotgun (smart choke). It gives you a great balance of power for range. I wish it didn't have such an atrocious kick though.

Besides which the cooldown time on hammer charges doesnt matter too much with the crusaders hefty weight , you dont really notice the time between smashing things so much. I love the Crusader

This gun is what you should be using on the KROGAN WARLORD , to soften up bosses before going in with the hammer. Tha tway you can attach the best melee mod to it for the melee damage as its a shotgun , but not have to worrry about getting within synch kill range until its too late for the synch kill mob to survive those hammer hits.

Also, I've been running it with the Geth Scanner a ton, which is like supercharging its sorcery. Phantoms love to hide in cover. With innate piercing and double piercing mods, Phantoms become jokes when you can see them through walls. Someone drops her Barrier, and she goes into cloak/hide mode? Big deal. I seeeee you Miss Phantom!

I get into the lobby and immediately get kick-flagged, and the leader immediately begins to ridicule my loadout. I explained that the DA wasn't as CD dependent as most adepts. Anyway, he decides to teach me a lesson and straps a harrier X on his DA. He ended up outscoring me, but I didn't do too badly considering it was my first time taking the Crusader out. (about 15k less then he did). UUG to collectors/london.

Don't even waste a thought on "Oh look I can score good with a Harrier I'm so pro" types.
Thing is amazing if going against bosses and keeping it ahead of an enemy. When his head enters your crosshair, shoot. Delay outsmarted.

Out of curiosity, what level was your Crusader?

I have no excuse, it is at VIII.
I actually considered the incident a minor victory. He expected total incompetence, and I was competitive with a first time use.

jajaja, might be fun. I figure I'll need some practice with the Crusader to make it really sing. It was great crunching bosses and whenever I managed to tag a mook with it the results were pretty spectacular. It's going to take me a fair few games to figure it out though. I'm pretty comfortable with a Jav, so I was hoping for an easier transition.
I'm at the point at this game where trying out new things is plenty rewarding instead of scrapping for every bit of performance I can get in every game.

I still have not received the person's gamertage. It is required.
Thank you

You need no excuses, the Crusader is clearly one of the higher learning curve guns in the game, and to compete that close with a Harrier X DA on your first time out with it is a victory!
I actually wish I would run across someone like that. It would be fun!
And Stikman, be nice, we've had enough drama around here today without starting a crusade (ha!) against some poor misguided soul who understands not the power of the Crusader.

I used the Crusader for 2 games recently and it seems to be hitting quite accurately. Off-host for both games.

Nope, never been touched as far as I know. To me the delay is visible in the how long it takes an enemy to react to getting shot, pull the trigger and the enemy doesn't react quite as fast as with other guns.
