So compensating for the cons is something you don't do with weapons? You don't use the smart choke on wide spread shotguns? Don't use Turian stability for the Hurricane? Don't equip piercing mods/ammo on the Reegar?
That's just one of the most mystifying statements I've seen.
If it's that I claimed it's one of the top 5 guns in the game, on paper it really is. The challenge is to turn that potential into reality.
Fascinating to see the reactions to this gun. There's just no middle ground at all.

I'm sorry, but if I have my crosshair over an enemy and it doesn't hit it, it's a crap mechanic that needs to go. It literally punishes people who can aim between targets quickly. I've tried it several times. On the KroSent, TurSent, TurSol, etc. I always end up replacing it with the Saber or Black Widow instead to fill the same role.
And if Jay says he doesn't like it, you know it's not just low skilled players with poor aim who don't like it.

It just takes practice. Once you get used to it, its a great weapon. i prefer it over the saber... and i don't use snipers... so ill take the crusader over them, too
its just a difference of opinion as to whether a person likes it or not.
But whether they like it or not, it is indisputable that it is one of the best shotguns in the game.

powers, it doesn't have terrible recoil, and it's
aiming is spot on and not delayed.
That being said, the Crusader is under-appreciated.
I used it on my Chargeless-Asari-guard during the
dark times of the Vanguard glitch, and it worked
fairly well coupled with Stasis.

I can hit slower moving enemies mostly fine with the Crusader. So when I play against the Reapers, the only units I struggle hitting are the husks and Banshees while they're in teleport mode.
But when I play Cerberus....*shudder*. Those Dragoons will absolutely take me out into the yard for a beating. Also those damn Nemesii. And Geth really aren't much better.
I've tried to adjust to the mechanic, and I just can't well enough. If it was just a delayed shot like the Javelin, where it actually hits what the crosshair was over, I'd think it would be a very unique and amazing gun. But half the time you're guessing whether or not you're going to hit something. That isn't fun to me.

Your concern/perception with the gun is quite valid. Sounds like you have had enough experience with it to know its not for you. At the very least you can appreciate the potential it has.
For me, it fits right in with me and I do very well with it (love popping those big dome collector heads, omg "nom nom nom")
The only thing i have trouble with are flipping phantoms. Dragoons, banshees, husks (unless i go for the head), i don't have too much of an issue.

Dragoon Hint : deal withother enemies until they attempt to Smash you => sidestep => doubletap them in the headBlackDahlia424 wrote...

Nemesis Hint : exploit the cover penetration for easy headshots on Nemesii in cover
Geth Hint : good luck
(I do have a couple tricks, but none of them are both reliable and easy to explain/use)

It is indeed a fantastic gun, and with Destroyer you can have 5 rounds per clip.
I led score in many gold matches with it, and my first platinum game was success thanks to that kick-ass gun.
But as people mentioned, its aim delay could get really annoying and you will hate the gun for it.
I find it most problematic when you fight against a closing enemy, Dragoon especially (which is ironic for a shotgun).
Sometimes you don't have enough reaction time, and as a conditioned reflex you try to shoot where he IS at, which, of cause, won't work with Crusader.
In time like these, It's really frustrating to miss your shot multiple times and get killed, even if you perfectly line up headshots on that bastard.
Recently I find Raider is a better choice overall. It works wonderfully even in mid range, doesn't require careful aim, hits like a truck, and still loads really quickly with reload cancelling.
Still, Crusader is a great gun and certainly better than many ultra rares, like Saber, in my opinion.

It's not just poor players, no. It requires to do the opposite of what some great players with great reflexes have learned to do with all weapons (waiting after making sure that their aim is true) so they understandably hate the thing.BlackDahlia424 wrote...

So while using the gun right takes some skill (which could come from practice), said skill isn't just something that's hard to achieve for scrubs. It is also something that runs contrary to the habits of great players with amazing aim and reflexes.

Any weapons cons can be compensated for, for example the Avenger's limited damage can be overcome by using Incendiary ammo, doesn't mean it's a good choice of weapon or top tier.
The Crusader on paper may be a top gun, but in-game application is far more important and in this it is found lacking. It is far from "one of the best 5 guns in the game"
I have also completed the "Crusader Use" challenge multiple times, this signifies that I have in fact used it quite a lot, this does not change the fact that I think poorly of it.
@Original Stikman - To say I do not wish to "grow/expand" is a very big assumption on your part, it is one which is also false, considering I frequently use near every weapon and character in the game as opposed to "sticking to what I know". I wonder if the same could be said of you...
I was also far from vocal

Which I think is weird, I found the Crusader the ultimate tool for quick and reliable Phantom disposal on my TSent.
Since it has 4 shots but usually requires just 2 to the dome to kill a Phantom it is much easier to reliably dispose of Phantoms than for instance with a Claymore. Just don't shoot mid-flip. Aim where they're expected to land, slightly adjust if needed when they actually land and *CLUNK*

Fought on Geth/Gold with it tonight, with a level 15 Krosent (no Incinerate build). The Geth are easy with it. They love to line up in a row and let you hit 2-4 of them with one shot. Pyros are slow. Hunters are slow when approaching.

But you're right, maybe it's not just top 5. I think I might upgrade it to the best gun in the game after tonight. Effective at any range, without needing accuracy or RoF buffs to make it shine. Top-tier single shot, burst DPS and sustained DPS. Stacking multiple piercing mods allows for easy multi-shots and deep cover penetration. Works on several dozen different builds/kits. It's a glorious weapon.
For those who say it doesn't work for them, or that it doesn't work off-host, I guess I feel bad for you then, not getting to experience it how and I others see this gun. I made it a point to play a bunch of off-host games tonight, with at least 5 different hosts. I also used a character without any staggering powers (the above Krosent). After enough games with it, I don't miss anymore than I would with any other gun (and I can miss with the worst of them with some guns).

what you just posted is informative and a good expirential perspective. But your first post seemed like you were trying to be "funny" or just dismissive of what bjorn was saying, which has a great point.
If it isn't in the top five, its close, not far. I know this from experience, and I am not the greates player in the Traverse. Its hands down, one of the best shotguns in the game (1. wraith, 2. Crusader, then follow the rares in no order: Raider, claymore, pirahna)

Because that was the point at which I realised any counter arguement would not be taken seriously by OP. Listing all Pro's and Con's and then basically saying the Con's don't matter. By this logic I could say the Claymore beats the Crusader hands down in every aspect:
Innate armor piercing? who needs it when you have HVB
Damage? it does more than twice that of the Crusader and isn't affected by shieldgate
Accuracy? can be compensated for with Smart Choke
Clip & RoF? easily compensated for with reload cancel
Weight? at level 10 they weigh the same and HVB still doesn't add additional weight to original weapons
Did I miss anything important?
I can understand some people saying it is better than the Raider due to range limitation, but IMO the Raider is far better especially off host, nothing in the game can stand up to a triple shot Raider for long.
I hate the Piranha, I find it boring to use.
