Vampire : Bloodlines was possibly more violent. Less blood, but pretty violent. And oh so creatively.

I almost forgot about Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.  I've played that one and it definetly is one of the most violent games ever made.

I don't think it has as much blood as Dragon Age but the violence in Bloodlines is especially cruel and sadistic.  Very creepy.

Fallout 3 killing someone in V.A.T.S. mode. The slow-mo deaths are pretty gross.

Question: Wasn't Manhunt 2 supposed to be more violent than the first?

I would also say GTA series is much more violent than DAO.

Seriously, have you ever played Fallout 3? Blood, gore, eyeballs, bits of stuff flying all over just from successful headshot kills (especially if you have the Bloody Mess perk - **edit: hedshot kills or any other kill resulting froma a crit on any body part **). In comparison, DA:O is pretty tame even with the occasional decapitation and tons of blood.

Fallout 3 is minor compared to Manhunt. Fallout 3 only gory with bloody mess perk.

most violent? nah, not really. i could think of a bunch of games with a lot more violence. though i'm mildly surprised it's still freely available in germany, because normally someone yells "BLOOD, OMG" -> game be gone^^

No offense meant Mr. OP but if you think this game is "violent" then you have led a sheltered life.

Not really. I play most of the game fully zoomed out and without persistent gore and about the only blood I notice is the pools of blood forming around enemies when they die.

I played Vampire Bloodlines, and obviously Dragon Age. Actually I wonder what's the point of this thread? Does the OP think violence is good or bad? Is it supposed to be a point of criticism, that DA:O appears very violent, or does he feel it enjoyable?

As for me, I also considered Max Payne quite violent with this scene of him coming home with his family slaughtered... Also plenty of bullet time giving bullets, especially with sniper gun, (quite literally) an awesome impact. But it fit the game and I wouldn't have wanted it less than that.

Similar with DA:O. Ok, perhaps the fountains of blood when killing rats were unbelievable. I was also wondering why the Darkspawn blood was not black or much darker than normal living being's blood. Some scenes seem like a déja-vue from Kill Bill (1), but still fits the genre and presentation of the whole game. So, I'd say: Violent? Yes. The most violent ever? Hard to say, but at least in my top 10. Violence too much or overboard? Not really. Still, certainly not for minors.

Nope, this is not the most violent game. I've seen plenty of games where blood runs in rivers and where you can chop off someone's limbs and then beat that person up with his own limbs used as weapons.

Now, the blood is a bit silly here, I mean, everyone bursts with blood even from simple wounds as if they're some pressurized vessels loaded to bursting with blood. Not to mention that I poke the enemy standing in front of my char in chest and then it bleeds so that my char's backside is also all covered with blood? Eh, what the.. How did it get there? I don't mind the blood but really, it should be a bit more realistic, I mean, humans don't have 100 liters of blood in them and it just doesn't burst like a fountain with every small poke and it just can't get on my char's arse from several positions like it does now.

If you want entertaining kill animations, check out Dawn of War (the first one). Nothing says entertaining violence like a Bloodthirster tossing an Imperial Guardsman into the air and smacking him to the moon with his axe as if he were playing baseball :D

someone mentioned the Postal Series and Blood 1+2....in my 20+ years of gaming...they have to be considered among the bloodiest and violent. In Postal 2 you can actually Pee on your victim. the original Postal you could commit suicide. Blood had gore for the sake of gore...i wish someone would remake that game...tons of black humor in it. recent examples. fallout 3 had some interesting ways to blow people up and those hanging grab bags of body parts were a nice touch..but if you imagine a whole game that was nothing but that...you have Blood. Apologies to all others...

Try playing gears of war 2 dragon age looks like a childrens game compared to it. Anyone ever notice the locuts and the darkspawn look similar?

Honestly Left 4 Dead 2 is pretty bad. A frag round shotgun to the legs and the zombie is torn in half. Its even clawing at all the organs hanging out.

No - just off the top of my head there is Fallout 3, any of the Mortal Kombats with their finishing moves, The Thing, Bloodlines... shoot there is this dinky game called the Dishwasher that's an 360 arcade game that has more blood in it.... God of War 1 and 2, Dante's Inferno demo was pretty gnarly... DA:O is fairly mild when you think about it.

I'm usually pretty squeamish. I felt physically ill after getting about five minutes into the demo for Left4Dead.

So...I was dubious about this game. But the thing is, it didn't feel gratuitous. I even re-enabled persistent gore. It reminded me of how ugly medieval combat would have been, and emphasized the narrative point that the characters are going through hell in order to save the world.
