My question is this: With my first character, a Dalish rogue, when I entered the Chantry in Lothering and spoke to the Revered Mother, she suggested I make a donation (nothing unusal here). When I asked how much she thought would be an appropriate amount, she said 30 silver (I think). However, my character then had the option to offer one sovereign, which I took because I was playing a charitable type of character.
On every other playthrough I have only had the option of donating 30 silver, even if I have several sovereigns in my inventory. The guidebook also says you can donate 30 silver (I think), and I have only ever heard people talking about donating that amount. I have never been able to trigger the option again, and I'd love to know if anyone else has ever had the option to donate a sovereign.
It's a small thing, but I'm interested to know what happened there.

I recall getting the one sovereign choice as well. Played as a Human noble then.

Are you sure it was one sovereign? I seem to recall it being 5.. so if you had less than that you wouldn't see a sovereign option.

You might not have had the money to give in those other playthroughs

I had (and not for the first time), but I'm holding my coin together and only went for the 30 silver.

Hm, I definitely had enough gold. Perhaps it was five sovereigns, but... yes you may be right. I'll test this when I get my game back (I've taken it to my mum's so I can't play it, in order to give myself at least some chance of passing my last year at uni).

And no, I wasn't doing it for the maker
The money goes towards helping feed, clothe and protect people, which is why I donated.

Does donating more lead to other options, or are they all the same?

And no, I don't think it makes any difference. She's just very grateful, and that's about it.

Yeah, the Dalish don't have to be xenophobes, though.

If you have Leliana with you i think she gets a tiny bit of approval when you donate a lot.

Damn and I donated in hopes there would be some use in there for me. Oh well as a rogue I steal from the poor (they gonna die anyway and Im gonna save the land) and give to the chantry (seems like a good idea to be in good terms with them). I also killed the bandits after they refused to join me. Oh Im so practical.

I did a sovereign as well.
I believe Leliana approves plus the Chantery mother there is supposedly happier to do something for you like release Sten.

If you donate more money to the Reverend Mother, Leliana will have a bigger approval bonus (if she's there) than if you had donated only 30 silver, and Reverend Mother is more likely to be persuaded to release Sten with lower level of persuasion skill than if you had only donated 30 silver. For the second benefit (lower persuasion needed for Sten's release), there are other ways to relase Sten even if you refrain from donating any money at all, though.
I personally don't usually donate money at all to her, especially that there is a rather big incentive to save every money you get up to past Lothering, i.e. the possibility to buy any items from Bodahn the first time you visit party camp after Lothering, which will get reset and restocked right away after you leave the camp. Unless you are of dwarf noble origin or abuse certain exploit in Lothering, saving up enough money to buy one of Bodahn's items before leaving the camp for the first time is quite difficult.
