The game cannot launch because of misconfiguration. Please reinstall your
game and try again
So after some troubleshooting and suggestion on the Impulse site, I ran the uninstaller. Based on support topics on this site, I downloaded through EADM. The EADM install failed to install the DRM service because (I discovered) the original uninstaller failed to remove all components of the service.
Based on a sticky topic here, I manually removed the service components, re-ran the EADM install, and then the service and game got installed properly (almost, but I'll mention a possible issue in a bit).
The current issues are:
1) The DRM service only starts automatically once. If I launch the game, and exit the game, it will stop the service. If I reboot, the service will start automatically, but again, once I try to run the game a 2nd time after a reboot, the service is stopped, so I repeatedely need to manually start the service if I want to play with the premium DLC associated with the Digital Deluxe edition (Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep). The service is configured to start automatically. I realize this issue touches upon things that aren't strictly pertaining to the Social site, but it appears to be related.
2) I have two persona IDs for this site. They are:
persona_id=213597855 <-- This is what I see when I access my profile through the website.
persona_id=217394882 < -- This is
what I see if I click through the in-game "Online Profile" button, which launches the browser and takes me to the social site.
Each persona ID has a different subset of Achievements and (I think) characters associated with it. Do persona IDs get created for each game install attempt? As in my case, I installed once through Impulse and once through EADM (using the key assigned from Stardock's Impulse service).
3) I see two Albums. One has the option to delete it, but when I click Delete, it doesn't. The other has no delete option. As part of my troubleshooting, I deleted all shots from the in-game UI, then deleted all shots stored on the site - and went through a few iterations of those steps as when I'd go back into the game, if the DRM service was loaded, shots would seem to reappear - even if there weren't any showing from within the in-game UI. Currently, it looks like I have been able to finally delete all shots.
4) I see character data is still stored somewhere on the site. I have currently no characters in-game. I have deleted them. I have also deleted characters from the social site, from under each persona_ID listed above, in an effort to reset my character data. The profile diagnostics page currently says:
Persona ID 213597855
No characters and 8 screenshots (I can't find the shots either in-game, on my PC file system, or on the social site).
Persona ID 217394882
4 characters, with various error codes and no screenshots. I can't find any character data in-game, or on my file system.
Each have differing achievement data.
I have deleted all in-game characters, as well as tried (repeatedly) to delete all online characters (and when I do this, I see the site page refresh removing each character in turn). I don't know where the character data is still coming from and how it reappears.
There may be other issues. I suppose what I'm trying to find out boils down to this:
1) Can get this fixed? Either by merging persona IDs or by resetting *everything* and just starting from scratch and playing the game, getting achievements, etc. as if this were a new account?
2) Are the issues I'm seeing because I installed once through Impulse client, and once through EADM client? So... If I give the Impulse installer a second chance (it's a long download, so I don't want to do this if it won't help) and uninstall EADM and it's version of the game, will the problems go away?
Long post, yes. But is my scenario something that can be resolved? If it matters, my preference at this point is to reset everything if that will prevent such conflicts. I'm willing to work with support directly to get this fixed, since I assume my scenario touches upon several causes and types of issues who's resolution may help myself as well as other players.
[Edit: I also used the Character Creator once before the game launched. That character never existed in-game - I created new ones when I got the game, but I think that character data - or parts of it - is also one of the four bits of broken character data appearing in the profile diagnostics for persona_ID 217394882.]
