Those specs make me optimistic. I believe I will be able to buy a PC which lasts me till the next console generation again. Time to retire the Athlon 64!

If you put 2 of these things in crossfire you have 12GB GDDR5 RAM dedicated video memory ... :o

No. You have 6GB, each card needs a copy of everything it is using on its own RAM.

Also lol @ X-fire / SLI crap, I herd you liek micro stuttering and ridiculous power draw.

Not sure if you're trolling or ignorant. Those so-called next gen consoles are nothing but a budget gaming PC in a small (and therefore poorly cooled) box. They will be better than the ancient console crap that exists today, but you could build a high-end gaming rig a year ago that laughs at the processing power of the PS4.

^You'd also spend a lot more money on a high end gaming PC. That's why you buy a console.

You know I'm kinda surprised its being called the Playstation Four. What with the importance of the number four in Japan. Makes me wonder if thats just the name of NA and Euro.

And yet the launch games look more impressive than Crysis 3 on ultra (with only ~3,5GB of RAM, final devkits are not out).

Stay mad, meanwhile PC gamers with a brain are glad to see their 680s will be finally put to good use.

Console gaming is more expensive in the long run tho.

Never mind Fortack. I think the PS4 is good enough for full HD gaming with a decent amount of detail and 30 fps. But those games? The only games that actually showed 'gameplay' were Watchdogs and Killzone I believe. Watchdogs ran on a PC and Killzone...well, Killzone has a history in this respect. I don't trust Guerrilla Games at all, the video looked very, erm, 'managed'. Reminded me of the so-called Aliens Colonial Marines demo of some time back (not to mention Killzone 2's notorious first 'demo' ).

Rest looked like prerendered stuff to me (except perhaps The Witness, which looked very much current gen. But very beautiful music...).

Guerrilla uploaded another piece of gameplay played a bit differently, so it's obviously not prerendered.

I wonder why no devs of pc exclusive games could make graphics that look THIS good. Sure, The Witcher 2 and Crysis look amazing, but if these specs are outdated, then why haven't devs, for pc exclusive games, generated these graphics? Just honest curiosity.

You know, I was wondering, how many more console generations are there left? I mean, eventually we'll reach a point where we probably won't notice graphical improvements. The question is, are we there yet?

Graphical singularity. I've thought of this, too. It's still a ways off

You are comparing carefully assembled, designed-to-have-sex-with-your-eyes  Sony promo material of Sony PR event featuring demos of  games  we know little about that won't be released in..what, 8-9 months  to a pretty vast, pretty two year old RPG? Tis kinda like wondering why Lion King Blueray has Toy Story 6 trailer that  is much more HD than Disneyland in Anaheim is.

Nobody is all that keen to make exclusives to any machnine at all these days. Bad business. Amount of people making high profile, high budget PC games that require high end PC to run is incredibly low.  Just like amount of people wanting to make exclusives on any console is incredibly low.

Even though PC is more popular gaming platform than ever these days, group of  people owning an actual  high end PC is a total niche.  It takes couple of excellent tech hard on - delivering AAA games to make them masses think about what's underneath their hoods that needs updating. Thanks to what, eight million years old current console generation, those games just aren't out yet.  Most parts of my PC are 3 years old(with few selected gems being 5-6 years:l ) Only hardware related investment I've done since 2009 has been 8 GBs of extra memory for 30 bux. So far every single game I've ever wanted to play  runs and looks just about how I think it should. All of this makes me an average gamer with a typical average gaming PC.  Production and release of them AAA games is so incredibly expensive it is simply terrifyingly unwise not to build PC games for the average PC gamer from ground up.

Games that do use some of them juices of a modern PC usually have focus and pursue fields more ambitious  than pure polygon porn. (open worlds of modern MMOs, several hundreds of people sharing vast, vast, vaast battlefields and waging truly modern warfare in Planetside 2)  Even current console generation runs Drakes Deception/Modern Warfare 200  or other equally narrow pipe run ghost rides that  make much cooler looking trailers than Planetside 2 ever would. It's just that once you go beyond that trailer, not many like to argue awesome 5 a clock beard polygons and a narrow ghost ride piperun makes more impressive technological achievment  than running surprisingly authentic (:P ) combined arms  large scale scifi warware pewpew between few thousand people  in vast open world.

That was actually the piece I saw. Sorry, those guys have zero credibility with me. Not that they can't make a good game, but I'll believe this when I actually play it. 'Demo' ran off a PC too, I think.

And yes, I have a PS2 and a PS3.

It looks nice, but I don't see any games that interest me. I won't be buying this at launch like I did with the PS3. I remember the PS3 launched with hardly any good games, so I was just playing my old PS2 games for a while.

I probably won't be buying it till 2014/2015, if the whole used game debacle is cleared up. I hope it's just a rumor because I'd rather have a console over a PC. Luckily, I know I won't be needing a new console anytime soon as: South Park RPG, Wasteland: 2, Project Eternity, Dead State, (maybe) The Walking Dead: 2, and Age of Decadence will keep me busy till 2015 for all I know.

That’s probably the wisest decision. I have no interest in all that social stuff – I have my PC and tablet and, really, don’t need a console for that. Consoles are for gaming, but when it comes to games the last generation showed that it takes a couple of years before there is a worthwile gaming library (not to forget good games in bargain bins and as second-hand sales). Unfortunately, the backwards compatibility that might help bridging this initial dearth of games isn’t going to be there this time around.

Totally pisses me off, by the way. Android, Apple and PC have a high degree of backwards compatibility, console software purchases (particularly digital ones) are beginning to look increasingly like ‘throwaway purchases’ in comparison. I sort of expected my XBLA and PSN purchases to carry over, but apparently not. I should have seen that coming…:(

^ I don't think thats the issue, some people are worried sony will pull some sort of activation fee for used games. Sorta like MS does with Online passes.

Its why neither any of the major companies will switch to Digital or ban used games. It would cost them many retailers and game dealers. Walmart and Gamestop stated in clear terms that if they don't have games to sell they won't sell the system. And Mail order isn't what it used to be lol.

To be fair, some of the new higher end GPUs have ridiculously modest power draw and heat generation under very heavy load - especially AMDs, which is a part of why it's looking good for the PS4.

It's kinda mind boggling if you remember some of AMD's history to be able to say something like "modest power draw and heat generation under very heavy load" about anything they made although to be fair they acquired this family of products.

It depends on when you buy your machine, whether you simply need to upgrade(I need an entirely new rig for the upcoming generation), and how many games you buy new. My brother has definitely spent much less money gaming on his Xbox 360 than I have on my PC due to a number of upgrades and headaches. In my case, console gaming would actually be cheaper since I do not buy many games and would be purchasing a PC to last the console generation(with the anticipation of potentially necessary memory and/or GPU upgrades as usual).

I cannot give up PC gaming though. Too many games I would have to give up.

The entire used game blockage has people on edge and the market uncertain. Even speculation into such has customers edgy and skeptical, for it is no secret what many publishers and devs want. It is a commonality, particularly since it flies in the face of basic consumer demand.

If its true Microsoft is doing it, then it will send shockwaves all throughout the market. And be devestating for Microsoft. Let's see if they're that dumb.

As a consumer, I've seen sources that Sony has said it won't block used games. Yet this was said passively and I still am skeptical until they go into great detail on the subject and make a definitive, clear message that resonates emphatically.

^ the used game thing is scary, but here's what I don't get: If you're not playing online, how can you be prohibited from playing a game locally that you borrow from a friend/rent/etc.. Are the new discs going to be somehow writeable to detect if its been played elsewhere?

That brings up the other issue of whether the new consoles will have to be connected to the internet full time to use. If so, I'm likely out of next gen gaming.

I honestly hope that these next gen consoles put companies like Gamestop out of business. Or at least hurt them a great deal. Other then that I have not decided on which console I would personally want as I know very little about either at the moment. Although I may just buy both consoles as I did with PS3 and 360. At least when my Xbox broke MS could fix it. Sony on the other hand had no idea what my error code meant and the whole hacked debacle. So I am still on the fence. As I have a working 360 and a broken PS3 that may weigh into which console I purchase first. As exclusive titles are a waste of my time. And IMO are a worse idea then having a blocked used game system.
