That would have been 2-3 weeks ago.  Seriously, Bioware is not going to make more money having held the release into January.  To have missed the holiday season window means they've missed out on people having more time to play due to do being on holiday.  Whatever is holding up the release this isn't about them holding it back to make more money.

I'm going to have to go with Kepha on this. The holiday season is "the season" to make a lot of money for game content. This isn't like an iPhone, a Modern Warfare game or something that will stir up hype to get people lining up around corners, this is downloadable content for a niche RPG gaming community. Whatever the delay is, it has to be something that is so bad that they couldn't do the "well, we'll patch it afterward" routine.

Also from how the developers are reacting to the delay i.e not saying much. It really feels like they are majorly angry that someone higher up told them not to release last minute. Either that or they are trying to protect the testing people from being sacked for incompetence.

Or maybe there's nothing to be said. A bug was found unexpectedly, and the DLC will be out when it's fixed. That pretty much covers it.

Well they said it was about quality, so probably there was a part that really sucked and decided to change it.

Zero? The DLC is done. People are playing it. It's completed. They're not going to waste man-hours adding arbitrary content when they don't have to. Bioware is sitting on it for a reason, likely a marketing one. They need to launch RoT when it's going to be most profitable.

Fair point. So, people are playing it and reporting it's complete, 100%, and bug-free. So, it's not because it creates some game-breaking bug, and it's not because of a "quality" issue, and it's not a marketing decision... then why exactly are Bioware sitting on Return to Ostagar?

This whole situation doesn't really make a great deal of sense, unless, of course, Bioware found some incredibly insidious hard-to-find problem with Return to Ostagar that hundreds (if not thousands, by now) of people are, somehow, over looking.

If they keep us updated and all they say is "We're sorry, it will be delayed longer", we'll end up just sacking their village and steal their loot (aka: Complaining about them giving us a pointless updates). They probably think that if they're quiet, turn off the lights, put out the fires and hide in the Chantry that we won't see where they are, get tired of hunting them down and just pass by.

Or maybe they are waiting while they track down the evil sneaky witch thieves and once they are taken care of we can have our game back.:o

well, i'll say this; if this is the reaction for a delayed bit of DLC, it states the overall quality of this game and the amount of people who are supporting it.

Is it possible for you to divulge the most opportune time to explore this downloadable content? Like several in this thread, I enjoy approaching games from more of a "role-playing" vantage, and, as such, would greatly appreciate knowing when exactly this content ties in with the rest of the story.

I wish I could help you. I'm not part of the DLC team, so I can't really answer to its content or the planned release date. These are questions best posed to Fernando on the community update thread.

I think what the OP was asking, was where this DLC fits into the story line the best, rather than looking for release date info.

I believe they said the DLC can be done in 1 hour if you skip all the story and content with a sprint to the finish line. As for loot, likely that one armour set you see in the adverts but likely some other stuff for all the classes like what we saw in the Warden's Keep DLC.

U can see duncan's body, allistair will whine..... oh my god they left the king to rot! U will get to pluck duncan's swords out from the ogre that's not dead, maybe some darkspawn mage resurrected him or something. That's what i am guessing.

Anyway the DLC is around 1 hr in length according to the developer post. It'll probably be the length of warden's keep as they are around the same price.

And also the overall cluelessness in dealing with consumer expectations. Win some lose some though. I rather this than a PR machine that makes buggy games.

What I have heard in other forums is that it takes less than 1 hour to complete. As loot you can find Cailans armour + weapon + shield, Duncans two swords and a two handed hammer. Duncan doesn't seem to be included.
But we will see when it is out.

Or the delay could be caused by Sony and thier longer certification process. But the real reason we aren't enjoying RTO right now is because they decided to include an achievement. Kill the ogre that killed the king for 25 points. Way to get all creative guys.

If you look at RtO's duration: 15 mins speedrun, 1 hour for 1st playthrough (so they say)

The Awakening expansion might have: 3 hours speedrun, 15 hours for 1st playthrough.

LOL

What's the point of a speedrun in a RPG?

How I wished Priestly never mentioned the length/duration of Return to Ostagar. I mean, for a $5 DLC and comparable to Warden's Keep, we all know its gonna be short. But when he mentioned that it could be done in 15 mins, that really turned me off and lost excitment lol.

I think the 15 min speedrun is a dev's run to test it. Maybe, just maybe, a high level char, from a post-end game save with top gear, e.g., might do it that fast while missing stuff. I would think that an ongoing character around 10-15 might take longer and enjoy it more.

Thus I have my 5 current ongoing chars around level 10 on halt waiting for the release. On the other hand, there are stuff in life that costs 20 bucks and gives 5 minutes worth "enchantment". Park Avenue in NYC had lots of those long ago. Hmm... everywhere has lots of those, I suppose, being the oldest human enterteinement and all...

Well for me it would seem to fit right at the point you get to Lothering. I am assuming the NPC that spawns a quest to go there will be there, as 'tis only logical.

And I'd be going back soonest. To see who I could save.

I agree with going there soonest. It will be a bit strange to return to ostagar like after spending months in game time away from it. The shock of the event will be like a distant memory already and would seem like an unneeded distraction.
