Yes, as a symbolic way of kicking back against forced-Liara squadmate status (4th time in the game).
(Part of) Mars, (Part of) Palaven... ? What else?

I did however, support Liara during the argument. You need to use a light touch when you are dealing with people who are grieving, and Liara just watched her home planet fall to the Reapers. How many of her friends or relatives were likely among the dead or dying? Javik may have been right, but he could also learn to use a little tact. He also has awful timing.
Look at this way...
Imagine for a moment that Javik had been a squadmate from the very start of ME1, and was with you for Virmire. What would have been his reaction to the loss of either Ashley or Kaidan? Probably something like this...
"Do not waste time with grief for this one souljah. When the Reapers come millions more will die. He (or she) is but the first of many, Commandah."
Sure, Javik would be 100% correct. And Shepard would have been just as correct in slugging four eyes.

That doesn't seem like harsh advice. It's sound advice. Losing your **** could cost lives. He is a soldier and that is what he brings to the table. Liara knew that he lacked empathy, yet she charged into his room and started a fight with him. Javik just lost his entire civilization and he is the very last of his kind. How many friends and relatives did he lose? It's Liara who lacked tact, going into his room with that knowledge and picked a fight with him. He didn't seek her out to gloat. She was angry at the asari, but took it out on Javik because he wouldn't coddle her and spoke the truth.

Javik would be correct, but his timing would be awful. Saying that to Shepard immediately after losing Ashley or Kaidan would be a douchey move, no matter how correct he is in his assessment.
Likewise just because Javik lost people he cared about doesn't give him an excuse to be tactless. If you had the misfortune of losing a wife to cancer five years ago, chances are you wouldn't tell some other recent widower to 'get over it.' That sort of behavior is considered socially unacceptable for a reason.
While Javik's hard@ss routine is certainly understanable considering his background, I think there are a couple points in the game where Shepard is correct in telling him to knock it off. The Liara confrontation is one, and the doom-and-gloom speech he is giving the Citadel civilians is another.

This thread is funny. Liara barges into Javik's room and is looking for sympathy? The man lost his whole freakin' civilization, for crying out loud. Whatever friends, LI, kids he might have had are all dead. Long dead. He knows that his existence is futile because no matter how hard he fights he already lost. Hell yeah, I'd be a dick. And to have Liara jump me and ask for sympathy? I kind of like her but this is ridiculous.
This was my reason for siding with Javik. She went into a cave and poked a bear, what did she expect to happen? That a man(err, alien) who saw his entire civilization die off, forced to kill his own people because of the Reaper's love of psychological warfare, was going to be awash with sympathy for the asari? She's a bit needy and needed to be taken down a slight peg, imo.
But that's the writers, mostly. Like when she said something like "next time maybe the Alliance can send some support" on Thessia. Wait a minute. Earth is being ravaged for quite a while now, I'm running around like a hamster on steroids trying to get whatever help I can so that my people don't go extinct and you're asking for human reinforcements?

Shepard has an option to say something akin to that to Ashley and Kaidan in ME1after the death of Jenkins.
About the cancer thing, I would be outraged in that situation if that person barged into my home, got in my face and provoked an argument with me. Liara had an entire ship of friends and a lover if she is romanced. Were she looking for a kind ear and a soft shoulder, she would not have went to Javik. She went there for the sole purpose of being incendiary with him. I didn't see Javik flipping out, but she sure was. Javik lost everything. Everything. She knew how he was going to respond, giving his views and she knew what he lost. She lacked tact and paid for it.
As far as the doom and gloom speech goes, Javik didn't say those things to be mean. In his mind, he was being truthful and blunt,(his nature) when Shepard brings this to his attention, his whole attitude changed.
@CynicalShep -- I agree.

If I lost someone close to me and had someone pretty much go "I told you so" to my face, I would probably be pretty upset as well.

Sorry, not a huge Javik fan. I have opted to leave him on Eden Prime sometimes. Because I don't want to hear him talk all game.
Love Liara, but still a Mirimancer at heart.

There is no telling how much the Protheans actually had to do with the rise of Asari. As far as I can tell, Asari culture is VERY different from Prothean culture, so that's off the table. Of course Asari tech is based on Prothean/Reaper tech, but that's true for every advanced species in the MEU.

In the confrontation Javik is right because he speaks the truth but i always support Liara since she was a little bit unstable in that moment and needed help. Javik is strong enough to defend himself without problems. In the end if you support Liara he acts smartly and avoid discussing any further.

+1, as much as I loved talking to the guy ( out of pure curiosity about his race and blablabla) I hatted his wearebetterthananyofyou attitude. I just can't stand "wearesuperiortoyouall" ppl.
+ just my opinion, but can't shake off the feeling that ppl in this ( talking about ppl that don't like Liara ) case like Javik just because it's Liara he trolls, not because his attitude is ok. Anyway just MO.
