It turns out that I have 2 non-commons at X, and one of them was the Raptor. So I decided to bite the bullet and use it for the first time since making this thread. This time, it was a Raptor X with an AP mod, SR Amp III and SR III Gear. I used a human infiltrator with full passives in weapon damage as well as max damage from cloak. It still took more than a clip to kill mooks (except Assault Troopers.)
I will happily leave this gun in the shuttle and punch the enemies, since that would do more damage.

I've started far too many accounts not to be aware of this, heck, even most of the rare guns suck at level 1 with no mods or consumables .. certainly not gold worthy

I can hardly fault the sarcasm (it's possible one might find a little in the OP.) But it was, in fact, the first time that I had ever used a Raptor, and I was honestly not prepared for just how much it was going to suck. I felt a PSA was necessary to protect other innocent Elcor from making the same mistake that I did (picking the Raptor, I mean, not starting in Gold - starting in Gold actually worked out surprisingly well.)

As far as the Raptor goes, I suppose if I was capable of consistent headshots I might consider using it again, but otherwise, it requires a better player than me.
And on a semi-related note, my experiment actually ended up panning out.

At least the Raptor is better than the Avenger. I remember a video I saw on Youtube once of this guy doing a Gold solo using a lvl 0 character and the Avenger, it was painful to watch.
