I said why doing a prequel would be EASIER for bioware, not that it was GOING TO happen.
Making a game where choices carry over to the sequel is very good, but when you produce a sequel with a different character, then it will become VERY diificult, since your choices would greatly influence the initial setting of the game...
For example:
Fate of Rachni, Krogan, Quarian/Geth, Earth and the choice of which ending...
Doing a game with that many varibles for THAT different initial settings can make the game VERY difficult to develop.
So if it is a sequel, don't expect too many choices to carry over from the previous games.
For example, the ending of choice for a sequel would obviously be "destroy", since "control" and "synthesis" won't leave much room for a mass-effect like story. And "reject"... well, you can't make a story if everyone is dead, can you...

Of course not! That's why PS4 is releasing with no backwards compatibility!

Maybe not, but it looks like Sony does.
I mean come on - announcing a new non-backward compatible console to an exited audience and not even having the common courtesy to show you what it looks like?
It's not right.

Sorry for the wall of text back there, but what I am saying is that you shouldn't get your hopes up for anything major in ME3 (besides Reckoning and Citadel DLC)
Mass Effect 3 is a masterpiece, a truly exceptionally well-made conclusion of the Mass Effect trilogy.
Yes, I know, the ending wasn't exactly what we hoped for, but Bioware didn't have much of a choice but to make the ending the way it turned out.
Reasons:
-) Back in the first Mass Effect game we saw how hard it is to blow up a reaper with brute force and Sovereign said that there were LOTS of his buddys waiting in dark space
-) In Mass Effect 2 we learn what Reapers actually do- they harvest the organic races and turn them into reapers.
So considering all the traits of the reapers and the hopeless situation, all BW could do is to make a setting where you try your best to build a superweapon that kills all of them at once, since there is no way that these about 2 years between ME1 and ME3 brought that much improvement in weapon technology that the reapers could have been beaten with brute force.
And on a side note: The oldest known Reaper in ME2 was the one you took the IFF from, and it was about 36 MILLION years old. The reapers harvested ALL technology of the cycle too, so they had a lot of FAR superior technology so they couldn't have been beaten just like that with brute force, other races would have done so in the previous cycles otherwise, the reapers wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to become that armada if they suffer THAT heavy losses and can only reproduce by harvesting the races there...
Theory:
Exactly that happened. Reapers took their time with waiting for the right time, species got more and more advanced, Reapers managed to pull their victory off but suffered heavy losses. Since then they started the cycles earlier so that yon't happen.
On a side note: Harbinger (the FIRST reaper) was Modeled after the Leviathans (who all reapers were modeled after), but all of them had FIVE main legs (the ones they stand on when on the ground), but Harbinger has only FOUR.
My theory:
He almost got blown up, lost the front leg and repaired itself, but couldn't repair the missing leg since there were not any Leviathans left (That he could find to harvest them since they were diding on 2148 Desponia in an underwater cave-->ME3 Leviathan DLC)
Oh, it's worse than that... The Leviathan of Dis, now confirmed to be a Reaper, was determined to be nearly a billion years old. That means 20,000 cycles. 20,000 Sovereign-sized Reapers.

On a side note, I'm really happy to see the positive fan feedback about the announcement. If you spend enough time on the CleverNoob channel on Youtube, you'd think that everyone hates this final DLC....
