Just wanted to say (if I haven't already) that I absolutely loved the Citadel DLC. I revisited the Mass Effect trilogy recently, and the Citadel DLC was probably the best experience in the trilogy for me. My favorite aspects:
- Involvement of the entire roster. Usually, by the end of the game, gathering up a whole team feels like a waste almost because I only end up using the same squad (although other players may use the characters I didn't). Mass Effect 2 did a great job in using the whole team for the suicide mission, and the Citadel DLC did a great job with this, too. I wish our whole team was involved in missions more, and we had guest stars from previous games (like Wrex!).
- Snark. I cannot get enough of the snarky dialogue! I know the main focus of Mass Effect isn't comedy, but I must say, the witticisms added a lot to replay value for me. The entire DLC was full of funny comments that evoked that feel-good atmosphere of some 80s and 90s action flicks (also reminiscent of some Mass Effect 2 renegade one-liners).
- Lore additions. I really liked going through the vaults to get tidbits of Mass Effect history. Getting an old-school weapon here and there is fun, too - like the Lancer or Fallout 3's Lincoln's Repeater. The novelty of having an "antique" weapon in your arsenal is pretty cool.
- Minigames. The arcade, casino, and arena were nice additions to play around in.
- Integrated LI content. This felt so smooth and natural - it drew me in to the story even more! Dates and such are nice, but LI content doesn't have to be isolated. Comments from other partymembers here and there and stuff like the LI on the comm and at the auto dealership after the Ryusei attack did a lot to enhance the atmosphere.
- Creative missions. Having to fight your way through enemies without your armor, medi-gel, or usual weapons was surprising and very enjoyable! The casino mission - a non-battle mission - was a great time, too. I hope to see more creative missions (like covert or manipulative missions or fighting with a serious handicap) wedged in between the fight a bunch of guys/fight the boss/get to the objective missions.
This is the kind of stuff I really hope to see in the next series installment. The party was fun, too, and something like this makes a good dlc to conclude a trilogy with such rich characters. The Citadel DLC surprised me and enhanced the trilogy for me in ways that the Omega DLC, for example, missed the marks on. Thanks for a great experience, and keep up the good work!
