Deft Hands, useless or useful? Survival too?

Also, is there any point in getting the Survival skill?

Bonus to nature resistance, forewarned is forearmed. But really, as a rogue, there's so many other skills you HAVE to pursue. I take survival when I've got nothing else that I 'need' to take at the time.LanceX2 wrote...
Starting my dual wield rogue and was wondering if I should even bother with Deft Hands. Most chests suck anyways right? Wrong. Most chests early in the game you might be able to pass up. But even there it's useful for the extra coin. Later on, you can come up with lots of items that are only available in chests. Now, you will get an NPC who can open lots of chests, true. But since you're a rogue, that affects party balance too. And it's just poor RP for a rogue who's supposed to have some since of being nimble bashing locks instead of picking them. Besides, if you're not breaking items (poultices!) from the bash locks mod, then it's a cheat, IMHO.

As for survival, there are other skills that are more important, though you need 2 points in it for a certain quest so ultimately it's up to you whether you think its worthwhile

Spotting and disarming traps is not to be underestimated as a safety measure and also as a source of significant XP. A lot of chests may contain fairly mundane items, but I don't see how it's possible to have too many lyrium potions or healing salves TBH,

I found survival useful. It doesn't have to be the PC, you can give it to a companion and it still works. In which case, you see enemies through closed doors and then cast an AoE and wait for them to die.

Deft Hands is useful as well, but its up to you. If you bring Leliana or Zevran have them go down that branch and free you up. Its up to you really, but I always max it out with Leliana (a constant group member).
