I feel like it's my birthday. And Christmas.

Really I'm incredibly happy about that. I know that there will be plenty of haters here but I don't care. I've been waiting so much, oh so much, for something like this... I had lost all hope of seeing Jack again in a DLC and they actually listened to all the crazy requests like Romance DLC and ME2 squadmates!

BioWare has done something incredibly valuable, haters notwithstanding.

I'm happy.

Damn, I'm f****n happy. (as Jack herself would put it, I guess)

Just like to clarify I'm not hating- I'm just skeptical that we'll have anything really meaningful here. Loads of people asked for more Aria, and look what Omega achieved. Exactly Jack-Sh!t in the grand scheme of things.

Unless I've been reading Bioware wrong for the last year, we'll still end up a charred lump of steak or be spread across the Galaxy in a completely convincing and scientific fashion. Not exactly an endpoint where an apartment is going to matter a whole hill of beans.

Actually I think this DLC, with its post-completion HUB, could be actually seen as the end of the game for people who want to skip or avoid Priority: Earth altogether. I know it's not the same since you KNOW that you have to do that mission but since people are already dying at the hands of Marauder Shields on purpose this is much better for them.

Just think about it: a peaceful place to rest and cuddle with your love interests (be it from ME1, 2 or 3) and even play games or get drunk with Wrex. I don't mind the endings but for people who hate 'em, that would be the perfect place to stop playing. Really the closest thing to an "alternate" ending.

That being said, Omega was a much smaller DLC. We're talking about a DLC so big it had to broke XBox Live rules and being split in two parts (it's the first time something like this happen IIRC) here, with the great burden of being the last DLC of the Mass Effect "Original Trilogy". The very last seconds we can spend with Shep & Friends.

Judging by the effort (appearently everyone at BioWare was back for this), the sheer size of the files and the statemente in the official announcement, BioWare perfectly understand how important this DLC is. This is more important than the endings: this is the last bit of content regarding everything we loved in these years.

Believe me, I am absolutely sure it'll be great and I'm not often optimistic about these kind of things. I had lost hope to see Jack again in a DLC, I simply thought it was impossible, but here they are listening to all the feedback.

Well...didn't Miranda get a love scene, though?

I ask because I'm not sure.

But, if so, that puts her romance leagues ahead of Jack's.

Her love scene is the fundamental equivalent to Jack's dance scene, but a little more drawn out and with a more emotional tone.

Miranda's scene scores slightly above Jack's, but it's not in a whole 'nother league as some people make it seem.

I'm really hoping they don't drop the "copy and paste" formula for Jack. She deserves me... ****, all the characters do.

@matt

About Miranda's love scene...

If you can call it that. Fade-to-black... left up to your imagination. :) The only part I disliked about that scene was Shepard being immediately ported out the room like nothing happened. :( Might have been better fading to black then another scene then leaving. You know? Transition from one scene to another needed extra work.

Hey, there could be Jacob content, too!

Shepard could go on a daytime talk show with the theme "my man had a love affair behind my back while I was imprisoned for war crimes and now I want revenge!".

I feel like this should be the name of the Jacob romance group, if it isn't already.

What more do you need to add two and two there, an animation of Shepard smelling his fingers for a few hours after the scene ends?

If by a "sh*t ton" you mean a side conversation or two and an incidental appearance in a mission, then sure.

You'll notice that that's exactly the same thing Jack got.

Really?  Let's compare:

You talk to Miranda substantially at least three times on the Citadel, and you get that speech about the control chip, even more dialogue - and romance culmination (some loving) if you romanced her.  Then you get more romance stuff at the end of Sanctuary, and if she dies you get even more - and the holo-message at the end.

You don't see Jack until Grissom.  Then you talk to her ONCE, get some short dialogue, kiss her twice, and then don't see her again until Purgatory, get some short dialogue, and then dance - whether you romanced her or not.

Then you don't see her again until the holo and get what - three lines?  If you don't go to Grissom you don't see her at all and only get to kill her as a Phantom in Chronos.

Not even effen close.

Glad to see these romances get their due. But you all should still be furious you need to drop $15 for it.

If it was just the romance scenes, yes. But that's only a part of the package.

*laughs* No... some Miranda fans have suggested pillow talk conversation... or possibly Shepard looking back at her doing something or sleeping!  Or even a kiss... til they meet again.

The possibilities are endless.  To me the scene just abruptly ended.  (Guess I wanted more content) :P

Why would I be furious? I have job and get paid lots of money.  $15 is nothing compared to what I've purchased from the bioware store and spent on cartel coins in SWTOR... some may think it's stupid or silly but I do it because it's entertainment and I love looking at all the ME stuff.

:P

Liara fans had to pay $10 for proper romance contonuation in ME2.

Ash and Kaidan fans never got that chance.

Anyway. I'm excite. I like characters. I mean, in a perfect world, they'd have everything exactly as I want it (protip: lots of flashbacks for Thanemancers, it turns out Jacob was a clone or so... Yeah, I don't even know with that one). But I think it'll be fun. It should make it a bit more fun when I get around to letting some of my manSheps out of ME2....

Arrival should have had the VS return as a squadmate, IMO. It would have been the perfect oppurtunity to bring the VS back as a character, redeem herself (or himself), and to continue the romance if that were applicable.

Of course that's a valid stance to take. I simply don't have enough confidence to get my hopes up like that. I feel that if this aspect of the story wasn't valued at all in the core game, why is it suddenly being touted as a selling point for this DLC? Because of fan backlash. And that means its not 100% voluntary on Bioware's part, there's an element of 'because we have to' in it. Same goes for anything that is meant to address the game's issues at this point. Omega and Leviathan's reception has made it clear that the furore won't gop away if you gloss over the issues with a few more sequences worthy of Michael Bay. That's what I read from staff attitudes and official press statements over the past year.

Even if some choose to have that as their ending, it still leaves the issue that the Reapers don't get defeated. Without that, the narrative is left hollow.

Bear in mind they have to shoehorn a storyline in there too in order to make it worth its pricetag. That, combined with recent experience leaves me convinced this won't live up to the hype.

I really hope this is a nice DLC. But it can't fix the game. It can't make it feel as though the entire trilogy wasn't a waste of our and Bioware's time. Not anymore.

Overdue for both Miranda romancers and Jack romancers, although I don't expect that any romance will get more than five or ten minutes of content in this DLC, even Liara's or Tali's.

Still, the fact that they're making this at all is a refreshing step in the right direction.

Well at the very least yes, considering how Liara romance was handled. fade to black my ass.

I think five or ten minutes might be a bit too optimistic. Possibly that much for all romances combined.

I don't think they would hype up romance as much as they have for something that pathetic.

The. Again, it IS Bioware. They aren't exactly humble (or entirely honest) when it comes to pre-release PR.

I wish we could ask her to join the normandy after the whole Citadel mission, but I know that would be unlikely. I just hope she gets the screentime she deserves. I also wonder how she would look in a evening dress when everyone meet for drinks.

At the same time, look at what they gave us in the core product. I doubt there will be more in this 4GB than we got in the whatever-it-was game. Bear in mind they still have to get a mission series into that allowance that feels appropriate for Shepard's last gasp, and we already know there will be multiple locations involved (from the announcement, we have at least 4- the apartment, the casino, the wards, the archives). Space budgets and other priorities gave us the core product, and I can't imagine them doing any better with a lot less space.

I PRAY that they do this right a lot of the SP dlc hasn't been Bioware standard but if they do this in a way that makes sense and feels right then I think people will at least try any more upcoming dlc plus Jack and Miranda are my favorite romance options (after Tali of course)

Amazing. I romanced Miri many times in my playthroughs. I think I have one with Jack but I can't remember. Gonna have to look.
