I have played ME2-3 and I am used to their biotics but ME1 is a whole new ball game. There seem to be no biotic explosions, is this the case or am I doing it wrong. Is there the same... collusion (wrong word?) like in ME2-3, where biotic squadmates can set up for me to use my biotics for better damage? I know lift+throw=win, but warp+throw=??

There are no biotic combos. All biotics are essentially physics based. You can, for instance, use Lift, then Throw and that will do more damage to an enemy than Throw alone would. Predominantly, biotics are your source of crowd control, not direct damage in ME1.
Warp is the outlier in that it is a biotic debuff, but the rest are physics.

Biotics work on shielded enemies.
So no having to remove protections to rag doll your foes.

TBH I kind of liked ME1 style for Biotics more. I am replaying it right now with a Renegade FemShep I never finished and it is soo fun using Lift + Throw. On Insanity I recommend maxing Barrier/Lift/Throw. Rest of the points can go into w/e.
