You don't have to physically change the ending to please someone like me, Bioware.

see that would have been great even. it would just be cool to do a few things as shep after it was all over send him off into his life. but something a little more meaningfull then being in a pile of rubble at the end, alone. what you metioned would have satisfied a lot of people.Dr. Megaverse wrote...
If you can make him breathe and skip the memorial plate why can't you just have the LI pull some rubble aside, give em a kiss, and fade to black? For cereal, it's not too hard.
Pretty much. It's almost painfully obvious that Shepard lives in the high EMS destroy. I still feel bad that EDI has to die for Shep to live

After five years of playing with shepard, I just simply want him to get a chance to live a life without reapers.
Really, all you have to do is to go back to your orignal intention with the high destroy ending with shepard surviving. That's it. And don't tell me that your orignal intention with that breath scene is to have us "interpret whether shepard survives or not" because that is a bunch of horse radish and we both know it.
Before that fan convention about the Extended Cut last year, you and even some of the products you sold (ME3 walkthrough guide) have been telling us fans that Shepard does survive in that one particular ending, but it is up to us on how he survives. Which I found irritating, but I sort of decided to take it and run with it.
Then after that convention you guys retconned that orignal intention to "he either lives or dies it's up to you". which to my opinion made things EVEN WORSE than what they were already.
You see, the reason why people are saying that their shepard dies is not because they want to interpret it that way (seriously, I haven't really seen anyone here who picks the high destroy ending and wants their shepards to die) but because their suspension of disbelief only goes so far.
I'm not saying that you should outright retcon and change the endings (although I personally think it would be better for the franchise but I'll leave it at that), but I'll I'm asking is to go back to your intention on Shepard canonly survivng that destroy ending, and show or tell us some implications on how he or she can survive that ending. You really don't have to produce any sort of content to do this. Really, all it takes is for one of you to either come onto BSN, or twitter, or facebook, or the bioware blogs and say "Yes, shepard can surive the destroy ending because of x, y, and z."
That's it. It shouldn't really cost any type of resources except for a little bit of time. And boom, you've potentially won back a good chunk full of your irritated core fanbase. So why wouldn't you want to do this?
Very well, said, OP. I wish more posts like this were paid attention to. Not everyone plays a character fro five years just to watch them burn and die in the end.
Alas,, people like you and I aren't on the approved list, so our opinions don't matter.

Of course he survives... Duh.AndreShepard2178 wrote...

He clearly lives in the high destroy ems ending, thats the intention. Why else would there be a scene of him taking breath, why else would his LI not put the plaque on the memorial?
After the scene its all in your head. I can imaginine him found and uniting with his squad. Why cant you?
Thank god I am not alone.
The argument is on the events surrounding that eventuality

Yes, what he said. If bioware really is sticking to their guns with this issue, can't they at least show or tell us how exactly shepard can survive in the ending? I mean, that really shouldn't be to hard or tedious to do. That way, it'd actually be easier to believe that shepard did indeed survive.
Although I still think the best way to approach this is to outright say that shepard is alive and tell how he or she could have survived.

Only an individual that has a fundamental misunderstanding of the narrative of ME3 or really of any work of fiction would believe otherwise.
I agree, BioWare's insistence that it could be "interpreted" either way is baffling. Honestly, I hope it's their way of not insulting our intelligence by having to come out and say it.
So rest assured, in high EMS destroy Shep lives. This is not the end of Inception, there is no room for interpretation here.

In Control Shepard is in the Reapers
In Destroy Shepard is alive
That's how I see it anyhow.
In the first 2 options there might even be a chance to 'speak' to Shepard somehow through a machine or something.. or at least part of Shepard or whatever.
In the 3rd option well duh if Shepard is alive of course anyone could speak to him/her.

This is the best thing I've read in a while.
I love the way you put it and yes, Bioware should've just kept it simple and said he survives.
The whole "He survived....OR DID HE?!" thing felt like a real troll move.
Of COURSE it was a troll move. It wasn't even a particularly SUBTLE troll move.
One writer (who didn't even have ANYTHING to do with the entire final mission, much less the end scenarios) finally got sick of all the complaining that the scene was "too ambiguous" and finally said, "You want to be miserable? Fine. He bled out. Go be miserable. We're done trying to convince you otherwise."

Meh if they really wanted to keep the endings as is there's still at least something they could have done for the final LI goodbyes etc..
Did Kasumi not have a VI program of sorts of her ex lover? Why could this not have been done for Shepard as well? Us, the players could have even chosen the dialogue for it - that would have been the bittersweet ending, with tears and some sort of closure. If Shepard truely does live in high EMS destroy then they could have also done the reunion there imo. Or the VI program again only this time with the LI saying something about not believing Shepard is dead to the VI Shep.
