Yes that's bad I agree with you. She is a little bit too fanatic in her religion, I would like to talk to her without that. I don't like those fanatic "christs" so I ever have a bad taste in mouth ( is this an english phrase too?) when I have to talk with her about her believe.

But I love her talking about shoes :)

Since David Gaider wrote him, does that actually make Gaider the perfect guy?

Uh oh, Gaider's ego is going to go through the roof now Image IPB

I hope his feet stay on the ground. But he did it, he wrote the best NPC character I have ever seen. Congratulations to this but that doesn't mean, he is like the characters he wrote.
Maybe he is a perfect guy, I don't know him I cannot say, but if you remember, he wrote Morrigan too. Does this make him a perfect beast?

Gaider hates birds and wants to smash them to bits, is very sarcastic, is the perfect man and is a lover of fine leather, wine, and women...(Shale, Morrigan, Alistair, and Zev). Lol I just had to say that.

Yeah, I thought it was hysterical when Leliana started talking about shoes. Especially in contrast to Morrigan.

I think it's fine that they made her something of a religious nut. I would just like the option of talking to her about my beliefs without losing approval from her. Simply respecting each other's opinions. I believe you can do that with Ashely from Mass Effect.

I have a feeling I'm quite a bit older than most of the people in this thread, so I just want to say that in my experience, having a "Dominant" and "Submissive" member of the relationship doesn't work. That leads to codependency and lots of other unpleasantness.

My mage went off with Alistair to rebuild the wardens, but I have a feeling that at some point down the road he's going to be saying he should have been king and would have if it were not for her.

She's still got Zevran hanging around, I'm sure he'll be willing to get better acquainted when the inevitable happens.

Oh, she also seems to disapprove of defiling the sacred ashes of Andraste, her messiah. Kinda weird huh?

Having done quite a few games in DAO I have to say I like Alistair, does that make me a fangirl? No idea.

I think his jokes are there to hide how he deals with the pain of losing someone he cared about. I can identify with that because I have been known to do just that. I read that while he knew Duncan in the Grey Wardens, in fact, Duncan was a friend of his father's and likely had known him all his life. Having recently lost my Dad, there are still time it just overwhelms me when I least expect it. To me that makes him a real and believable character.

And because of some of the comments in the "I hate Alistair" thread I decided to try some different choices with very interesting results. If you tell him he is the real Grey Warden not the NPC at Flemeth's Hut, he gets very impassioned and lets you know he is not going anywhere and he needs you because he just can't do it alone. I found that very interesting, hardly what I call whiney.

And if you ask him what would happen if you left, he says he refuses to leave because Grey Wardens are the one that have to take the Archdemon down. And if that happens that you do leave then Ferelden would fall. He says he won't be leaving.

I realize a lot don't like it he leaves if you choose to let Logain live... but frankly Logain is responsible for a lot of what goes wrong. Every time I let Alistair kill Logain. I still feel its the right decision. Logain character build is far inferior to Alistairs if you have done Alistair sword/shield correctly. And I feel its morally wrong to let Logain live. If there were an option to execute Logain as a traitor, believe me I would take it but there isn't.

I also think in many ways Alistair is like the Paladin of old in terms of his character. Perhaps that is why I like him and can identify in how he thinks acts and feels. Strictly from a female perspective that is :)

I don't have much use for Paladins, and Alistair is a high-school guy's version of a Paladin, so I have even less use for him.

Actually, personally - I think Alistair is a whiny little prat. I can understand becoming King is a little upsetting for a back country lad like him. But right after the whole scene with Loghain and all that stuff, he comes and gripes at me for pairing him up with his wife, and his kingship and wah wah wah wah... and then I lose -6 affection from him.

Good god you stupid idiot. There's a blight going on and I'm trying to keep the kingdom together. Grow some balls man!

I had the option of killing Loghain myself.

If you did the human noble origin, it's very difficult to let Loghain live. However, I feel that the scene was not very well done. Slaughtering Loghain in the middle of the landsmeet and in front of his daughter is rather barbaric. I don't feel any sympathy for him but when blood splashes on Anora, I can't help but feel I'm watching a Tarantino movie. Not that i don't like his movies but it doesn't suit Dragon Age nor does it fit my character.

It's not a big deal but I think Bioware should consider changing that scene.

I actually think the scene fits perfectly. Anora is exactly like her father, would stab you in the back the moment you aren't looking and if she has done it twice to you already. She doesn't care about you and what you stand for, I doubt she even cared her husband was killed. Anora would be another Loghain I believe....I think it is just a warning to her that no one will take her crap lightly anymore. She is on the fine rope...and it could hang her one of these days just like it did her father.

Wait, what? Anora never betrayed me. I rescued her from the castle, was captured in the process. I then escaped, not before killing Howe.

If you said "Isn't that right Anora" or something to that effect she will cry and say you kidnapped her...and then at the landsmeet she will say you are a bunch of liars...betraying you a second time. She is just like her father...she is her father's daughter most of all.

Agree, Anora never betrayed me either. The closest she came was demanding Alistair be arrested as a pretender to the throne, but that wasn't really a betrayal because all we'd discussed beforehand was her nutso father, whom I removed, and I never went to talk to her about who we'd make ruler (kinda forgot, oh well!)

Of course Anora is out for her own best interests. Rationally she would expect if Alistair replaces her she gets beheaded. Sounds like if you had your way she would be. I'm out for my best interests as well--in most cases I boot Anora off the throne and put Alistair there because who doesn't want the king to be a personal friend? It's irrational to not expect Anora to fight to protect what she has, her political power and, indeed, her life.

Ah, you know what. Now I remember. I picked that option but before there was any battle my brother accidentally turned of the PC (heh, had it plugged into the outlet that was connected to a lightswitch). The second time around I chose to surrender because I didn't actually want to kill Loghains right hand woman(I forget her name). I think that's what lead to her not betraying me at the landsmeet.

Yeah...lol, you should of gone with the option..this is the quote

Ser Cauthrien: Warden! In the name of the regent I'm placing
you under arrest for the murder of Rendon Howe and his men-at-arms
Warden: I am here to free Anora, who was held captive. She's right here, tell her Anora.

Anora: Ser Cauthrien! Praise the maker you're here... This brigand tried to kidnap me
Warden: You double crossing ****!

I wish there was an option to deck her...I would of done it..I so would of...that part pissed me off. XD

What are you talking about? Sten is the perfect guy. No one here knows what they are talking about. Alistair is wishy-washy, whiny, and a brat. Sten speaks his mind, is straight forward, and likely could kick Alistair's butt.

That being said, they are both excellent characters. :P

If you speak to her afterwards in the Arl's estate she'll snap at you for almost screwing things up by betraying her presence.  She was wearing a disguise so no one would realize she was cooperating with her father's enemies.  At that time Loghain felt she was an inconvenience, if he suspected she'd turned on him he would have her killed.  You're being attacked by Loghain's lieutenant and an almost overwhelming force, and pretty much guaranteed to be captured.  Of course Anora doesn't want Cauthrien to know she's working with you.

I kind of vowed to stay out of these threads - I just flat out enjoy the character of Alistair as he was written (except for one, well, ginormous character-breaking flaw, but lets not go there. *sigh* ).

The thing about his appeal - and even Zevran's really - is that I DO know guys like Alistair, or with manyaspects of Alistair. In fact, I have more guy friends, and have had boyfriends in the past that are funny, self-deprecating, able to step up if they have to, but not alpha-male assertive douche types. They are reasonably confident about themselves in some areas and maybe not so much in other areas, but are articulate, smart and fun to hang out with. And yeah, some of them have been decently "romantic" at some times, and at other times, pretty block-headed.

I honestly don't know a bunch of mono-syllabic, macho, sword or gun-wielding leaders of men. Nor am I attracted to guys who can't lighten the hell up once in a while. Basically, most males in video games are the heroes, and most of them would be rather dull guys to hang out with if you met up with them at a party or something. "Uhm, can you stop scanning the crowd suspiciously for five minutes and not glare at the host angrily? Geez, have a fricking drink and lighten up!" Whereas if you met Alistair or Zevran at a party, you'd probably feel pretty relaxed in their company and be joking around a bit fairly quickly.

I think Bioware did a good job at creating a male character with a little more depth than you usually get. They did a good job with all of their characters tho, I have to say.

I know a few guys in RL that are alot like Alistair as well. But those guys who seem like they would be a good match for a girl only favor guys. Whats that saying thats been around for a long time...Why are all the good guys either Gay or Married? LOL. Here in lies some of you ladies problems. All of us good ones are taken either by another man or a wife. As a guy looking at Alistair I think he has his flaws but he is a well written character. He always seems to find his way in my parties while out slaying Darkspawn. Leliana, Dog, and Alistair are my main three. But since this thread is about Alistair he is a great character. ((32male, married for the second time and for 7 years with two great kids and a great wife....sometimes...lol))

I might try that next time. I hear the sword that Loghain's lieutenant carries is pretty good.. although i don't want to kill her.

Kill her, loot her, and lose to her band.  She gets better.
